Not to speak ill of our Casey, but that picture of Wolf is the best picture of a 2009 Dodger with a beard so far this season.

The Tigers have purchased the contract of LHP Fu-Te Ni. I wonder if certain Knights approve of this use of one of the sacred words.
I forgot, does the bullpen at Comerica Park contain a shrubbery?

Nice
I think you are right about McDonald…with two long men in Weaver and Milton there’s no need for McDonald…let him get some starts in AAA, then be ready for the second half (say August 1 or so) if/when Milton falters.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 7:13 PM PDT up reply actions
It's hard to imagine
Milton, Weaver, and Vargas all in the bullpen at the same time. And with a four-man rotation until July 11, there’s probably no point to a 13-man pitching staff, so the upcoming roster moves will be interesting.
The only things I’m pretty certain of is Manny will be activated and Kuo will go to the 60-day DL. Likely McDonald gets optioned. But there needs to be one more 40-man spot made available if Vargas is activated.
I was thinking a Jones DFA (followed by a minor league contract to keep him), but I think Ellis gets sent down and the 40-man spot is solved with a Repko DFA. No inside info, just a hunch.

Manny to play Tuesday for IE according to Torre
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Monday that suspended slugger Manny Ramirez will play in his final Minor League tuneup Tuesday morning with Class A Inland Empire.

Yes, probably. Though it was hit pretty deep. Not sure Manny would’ve had him at 2nd either.
and of course Fowler probably wouldn't
even be running if it’s a deep ball to Kemp or someone wthout the rep of having a jello arm.
Yeah, I don’t think there’s a need to get too down on Pierre for that…they probably would have made it on Manny too, although perhaps they would have been less likely to try.

Seems our starters usually go 5 innings more often than 6. I wish Torre wouldn’t give some of the starters such a quick leash
Wolf and Billingsley usually get longer leashes than the rest of the Dodgers, and it bit them badly the last couple of outings.
He has pitched a lot, but it seems to me Torre has rested him when needed, and not overused him much…outside of maybe that 3-game stretch two or so weeks ago

Why not just air the national anthem before the game?
It’s the other way around…singers approach them to do GBA to get air time.

Another thing they could do
is not have GBA performed during the games at all. That would save some trouble. Just an idea! ;-)
Also
the anthem is usually before 7pm, or before the hour, which would screw with the TV coverage

by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions
I’ll jump on the Strassburg bandwagon after he wins 20 his first year or his 100th career win
by KellyStephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions
We don't really know how hard Strasbrugh will really throw.
He threw 100+ only starting once per week.
When he gets on a 5 day schedule, he’s going to take some off.
Uh oh…looks like you got a little smudge from the weekly cross burning!
by KellyStephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes
You don’t think Joe will ask Loney to bunt?
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
eth heard me talking smack about him earlier
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
Didn't want Randy Flores to take the L here
But I’ll take what I can get
how did that happen?
my t.v. came back to “and ethier gets a break there” with him standing on 2nd base
O.A.
Questioning the non-walk here? Given his propensity for K’s, i kind of understand it. But i’d walk him.
by KellyStephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Not questioning it
I just thought the quote was incredibly funny
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I wouldn't.
Then a walk gets Ethier to third.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions
Lol
Maybe there should be an extra “i” in there somewhere.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Did I think about walking Kemp? Yes. But did I look at his strikeouts? yes. Can I ask another question of myself? Of course
by KellyStephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions
Didn't expect them to pitch to Kemp, worked out okay for them
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
I'll gladly take that.
Now a Russ walk loads the bases.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions
Did that guy ever pitch to Paul Kernako? :)
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions
I hope Martin makes them pay
I still would’ve walked Kemp for Loney, but maybe this will work out for them.
and point into the 1B dugout the whole time :)

I wish we had some speed on 2nd
Andre just seems so slow these days. Maybe just perception problems.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
This may be up to Russ here
Can’t imagine anyone good is on deck
I think I see Gibson going to look for a bat
by KellyStephen on Jun 29, 2009 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Eh
He’s nothing special. I’d be happy with Mitch Jones or Eyechart.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 9:59 PM PDT up reply actions
I mixed them up…Dodgers have had 3 this year :)
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 10:01 PM PDT up reply actions
lol
and every one was strangely satisfying :)
by bucknellbruin on Jun 29, 2009 10:02 PM PDT up reply actions
I was talking about a JP walk-off walk though
Because I was at the game!

AJ Ellis sits on the bench
is he our best hitting catcher at the moment? Yes I think he is.

Hate wasting
the Trio of Terror and not walk away with a win in nine.

I wouldn’t mind a nice 20-inning game. It’s been a while
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions
well u gotta assume weaver goes 2 or 3
so it’d be more like a 22 inning game
by bucknellbruin on Jun 29, 2009 10:05 PM PDT up reply actions
and not just a scoreless extras either…I’m thinking of the Rick Camp game.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 10:06 PM PDT up reply actions
By the way, I forgot to include the link to the Rick Camp game…just a classic game, which ended in the middle of the night with fireworks (it was July 4)!!!

After seeing the replay
How could Andre’s hit not have been an error on Fowler?
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 10:04 PM PDT reply actions
dre was going for 2 anyway
i guess the scorer figured he’d make it
by bucknellbruin on Jun 29, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions
I dont think he would have made it though.
And on such a blatant misplay, I think an error is the right call.

It was like I had just served it in ping pong

This is not astro-turf Matt - WTF was that
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
that was weird
it was slicing left to right then kicked and spun left
by bucknellbruin on Jun 29, 2009 10:07 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh....
So that’s how this game is gonna go…
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 10:07 PM PDT reply actions
Well, this is the way it's going for us right now
Really needed to win this last inning
On negative side we have our 1 - 3 hitters coming up.

He had 2nd stolen twice in the first, but due to a foul ball and strike 3 he got neither one :(

He better have confidence
his post was stapled on the Rockie bulletin board.

of course none of them have touched the ball yet
at least lorretta make contact
by bucknellbruin on Jun 29, 2009 10:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Did they not cover?
Gameday says DI. That’s dumb if it was, you need to keep the DP in order.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 10:14 PM PDT up reply actions
its cuz the ump didnt give him that high inside corner earlier

thought it might have dropped to low but he got the call

Well, Weaver in a similar spot to Thursday
Got in a jam, got two outs…….
Hopefully a different result this time
That was a lovely breaking pitch to Fowler
for strike 3. After what I thought was a strike that was called a ball.
One of the better comebacks you will ever witness
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
How embarrassing for the Rockies
Weaver strikes out the side
or trying, don't lose the day job

If Pierre gets on
Furcal better step within 50 feet of that plate – Juan Castro please

Bad luck there, usually that ball either goes down the line or bouces forward.
Furcal is on the clock.
What happened?
For those of us with gameday.
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 29, 2009 10:21 PM PDT up reply actions
ball down the line
bounced off the tarp area to Spilborgs

I remember when I was just a lad and I used to think the higher the ERA the better.
Embree would’ve been a stud in my eyes. Go Pierre!
raffy can actually bunt
when going for a hit…

Do I need to read reports?
No, I don’t think I do. Would they have come in handy tonight? Possible. I think I know what I’m doing though.

JP may have made it
with the bad hop and double clutch. O Dog is really in the tank.
Yes, double clutch

by bucknellbruin on Jun 29, 2009 10:25 PM PDT up reply actions
Considering he didn't hit the ball hard
and the double clutch he was still far from the bag.

Both the Rockies and Dodgers
have superb defenses — the Rox have shown it a bit more tonight, but in general their D’s are a big reason why they are both tough to beat.
you don't expect tulo to double clutch
and he’s got a cannon

Forgot about the game tonight
but tuned in just in time to see Odog ground out with a runner on 3rd with 1 out. Still offensive offense.
You figured that Ethier was coming up with the game on the line
Either with the bases loaded or two on.
maybe odog is injured and not telling anyone

Any sense of injry would show on the defensive side.
And i’ve seen him take maybe one play off that he wouldn’t in fine shape. Rest ’em for a bit.

Terrible AB's tonight in big spots
Jimenez can be tough – but Rincon and Embree are pieces of shit. Come on – do better.
I don't mean to start rumors but i wonder if something is nagging the O-Dog
he looked slow going up the first baseline, and my friend said he had a bit of limp when he came out to speak to the jr. dodgers
