Not to speak ill of our Casey, but that picture of Wolf is the best picture of a 2009 Dodger with a beard so far this season.

The Tigers have purchased the contract of LHP Fu-Te Ni. I wonder if certain Knights approve of this use of one of the sacred words.
I forgot, does the bullpen at Comerica Park contain a shrubbery?

Nice
I think you are right about McDonald…with two long men in Weaver and Milton there’s no need for McDonald…let him get some starts in AAA, then be ready for the second half (say August 1 or so) if/when Milton falters.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 7:13 PM PDT up reply actions
It's hard to imagine
Milton, Weaver, and Vargas all in the bullpen at the same time. And with a four-man rotation until July 11, there’s probably no point to a 13-man pitching staff, so the upcoming roster moves will be interesting.
The only things I’m pretty certain of is Manny will be activated and Kuo will go to the 60-day DL. Likely McDonald gets optioned. But there needs to be one more 40-man spot made available if Vargas is activated.
I was thinking a Jones DFA (followed by a minor league contract to keep him), but I think Ellis gets sent down and the 40-man spot is solved with a Repko DFA. No inside info, just a hunch.

Rockies announcer: “Randy Wolf is a flyball/groundball pitcher so the defense will be busy tonight…”
Wait what kind of a pitcher is he??

Manny to play Tuesday for IE according to Torre
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Monday that suspended slugger Manny Ramirez will play in his final Minor League tuneup Tuesday morning with Class A Inland Empire.
Nice
a friend of mine bought tickets thinking Manny would be there. Then again it is $2 Tuesday so no biggie. :)

Maybe The Beard was building his case against the umpire, and he needed to be able to say “see, I took all of them. They must have been balls.”

i'm not at tonight's game..
so we’re definitely going to win
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
They lost the last two times I attended as well (June 7 & 28)…after starting the year 4-0, I am now 4-2.

I only went to one game this year
it was the first Wolf game against Colorado, the late comeback to win.

Here comes the jinx
Batters are 6 for 52, .115/.207/.192 against Wolf in 16 third innings this year.

I didn’t see the specific ad, but they have been marketing the SD road trip for a week or two.

Yeah I saw that too.
Movie night July 9th at Dodger Stadium. We are @ NYM
“Bring the family to Dodger Stadium on Thursday, July 9th for a special Dodgers Double Feature. Starting at 4:00 p.m., watch the Dodgers on the DodgerVision as they battle the Mets in New York and then stay in your seats for a special showing of the Warner Bros. blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
Good thing Wolf looks good so far
Dodgers appear to be meek against his counterpart. This could be a fast 1-0 final.
I don't even know how to

Can we blame Pierre for that?
Yes, probably. Though it was hit pretty deep. Not sure Manny would’ve had him at 2nd either.
and of course Fowler probably wouldn't
even be running if it’s a deep ball to Kemp or someone wthout the rep of having a jello arm.
Yeah, I don’t think there’s a need to get too down on Pierre for that…they probably would have made it on Manny too, although perhaps they would have been less likely to try.

That's the rare time
where the throw beat the runner and yet the runner wasn’t called out. Rightfully so, I might add, since Beard didn’t tag him.
Defensive play of the year so far? Or was it Kemp’s catch in Anaheim? Or Hoffmann’s catch and throw at Wrigley?
Yeah Hoff's play or Kemp's rank tops
(Actually several Kemp catches…) But that’s up there! A web gem tonight I would guess.
Speaking of web gems

That balk seems unfair imho
Wolf kinda distracted him by asking for time, but he has to look at the ump, not at the batter.
We already know Jimenez is giving up 4 runs (7,6,5 in previous 3 starts against LA)…it’s lie Lawler’s Law for baseball.
So, to paraphrase Bobby Knight, Ubaldo should “just sit back and enjoy it”

That was his call of after the final out of Fernando’s no-hitter.
Same day as Dave Stewart’s no-no against Toronto. Both games were on ESPN, which was a huge deal at the time.

Concering Wolf's antics to get the balk called.
Do hitters regularly do this to distract the hitter?
No, he probably did just want to call time.

Seems our starters usually go 5 innings more often than 6. I wish Torre wouldn’t give some of the starters such a quick leash
Wolf and Billingsley usually get longer leashes than the rest of the Dodgers, and it bit them badly the last couple of outings.
He has pitched a lot, but it seems to me Torre has rested him when needed, and not overused him much…outside of maybe that 3-game stretch two or so weeks ago
by Eric Stephen on Jun 29, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions
speaking of Blyleven
Wolf could I suppose approach the Dodger record for HR given up. Don Sutton had 38 in 1970.
Wolf is at 15, so he’d have to pick up the pace to catch Don.
