It's a step toward the future
but it still sucks big time for anyone in San Diego with DirecTV. Since almost all their games are on a local channel, anyone with DirecTV can’t watch their games, even with extra innings because of the blackout.
If you have DirecTV, and are a Padres fan, you pretty much have to additionally purchase the lowest level cable system from Cox or Time Warner just to get the Padres games on Channel 4.
DirecTV doesn't provide local channels in SD?
I get KCAL on DirecTV in L.A. and it’s not blacked out for Dodger games.
It provides regular local channels, like NBC, CBS, ABC, CW, KUSI (the KCAL-esque channel down there).
But Cox created a special local channel, 4SD, with the main purpose of showing Padres games. They have a deal with Time Warner to carry it, but not with DirecTV
