Three Stars of the Day 6/3/09

1. Alberto Bastardo - LHP - Inland Empire 66ers (A-)

Bastardo extended his scoreless innings streak to 22 and two/thirds innings before it was snapped in the 66ers 6-2 win over the High Desert Mavericks. Bastardo earned his fifth win of the year putting his record at 5-2 on the year. Bastardo has not lost a game in six starts. Against High Desert, Bastardo pitched six innings striking out three but also walking three. Bastardo lowered his ERA to 3.08

2. Trayvon Robinson - CF - Inland Empire 66ers (A+)

Robinson reached base four times in five plate apperances via three hits and a walk. Robinson hit his 14th double and his 5th triple of the season. Robinson drove in two runs giving him 26 RBI for the year. Robinson also scored a run. It was Robinson's 13th multi-hit game of the year.

Devaris Gordon

Here’s a little blurb on Gordon from Baseball America

Had Gordon played Division 1 baseball last year, odds are he would have gone higher than the fourth round. Instead, Gordon was academically ineligible to play at Seminole (Fla.) Community College last year, and some area scouts in Florida never even had the chance to see him play. Now the speedy shortstop is showing the ability to hit in games, but he’s only scratching the surface of his potential. Through 50 games for low Class A Great Lakes in the Midwest League, the wiry Gordon is hitting .293/.360/.390 with 16 walks and 39 strikeouts, while flashing his plus-plus speed with 29 steals in 35 attempts and six triples. He’ll also need to cut down on the miscues after committing 16 errors already.
