They just had to show the Kent/Drew home plate combo!

Saw this as a FanShot on Purple Row:
Apparently Manny didn’t pay for the postgame spread for any of his minor league games, which is normally tradition for visiting major leaguers.
Saw that.
Not a big deal in the long run.
But something you want to see people do.
Manny’s PR people needs to make it right, taking the team out to sizzler or something. :)
What I want to know is how you spend $3,000 at Outback Steakhouse! Even if Randy Johnson fed as many as 60 people, that’s still $50 per person.

You know
tricking the Clippers into thinking they had a chance. Clippers clear out cap space accordingly, and then, nada

The Clippers should have known better on that one :)
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 7:16 PM PDT up reply actions
I still maintain he was coming
Lakers made the right call, they ran off Shaq and Phil to make Kobe happy. But Kobe did love the idea of transforming the Clippers, and he would have. Starting lineup that year would have been
Shaun Livingston
Kobe
Corey Maggette
Brand
Kaman
That would have done some damage for quite a while
by Michael White on Jun 30, 2009 7:18 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah I know…I was just giving you a hard time. Ric Bucher and some other league reporters maintain that Kobe to the Clippers was far closer than anyone seems willing to consider.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 7:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Went to the last Clipper game this year
Livingston was by far the most popular player there amongst the fans. He threw down a pretty sick dunk and the crowd erupted. And he played for the opponent!
by Michael White on Jun 30, 2009 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions
I envisioned big things for Livingston, but he was no Magic. I’d say Lebron, or even Jason Kidd were much, much closer to imitate Magic (Kidd less so due to height)
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 7:22 PM PDT up reply actions
He was close to having all three unassisted putouts, but that last one bounced
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions
The Dodgers are just getting him prepared for extra innings.
Watch, Marquis is going to too tired to pitch the 15th. And then they’ll strike.
Rockies have a guy in the RF pavilion :)

Did they really have a shift on for him?
by Brendan Scolari on Jun 30, 2009 7:27 PM PDT up reply actions
I wanted to look at where Ethier hits them
compared to David Ortiz (another shift guy)
Ground balls to LF
Ethier – 11 of 83 (13.3%)
Ortiz – 6 of 50 (12%)
Line drives to LF
Ethier 14 of 38 (36.8%)
Ortiz – 7 of 40 (17.5%)
Seems reasonable to me (at least without seeing the actual hit chart to see where line drives fell) to at least try the shift on Andre.

I remember seeing a game a few years back (it was 2001) when Marquis was a Brave, and it was a big deal that two Jewish players (Maquis and Shawn Green) were facing one another.
The Dodgers won 1-0 on a 9th inning Sheffield HR, one of three different 1-0 games that year won by a Sheff HR.
Bobby Cox opted to save his closer (John Rocker) for a lead on the road, and Matt Whiteside gave up the dinger in the 9th.

Yey, first hit of the game for Dodgers!

Cardinals
had 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and Shumaker made an out to end the inning, these Giants are infuriating.
O.A.
Wow, is Yahoo that far behind? Duncan is leading off the 8th right now

Only slightly worse
After 0-1 count: 37 K in 134 PA (27.6%)
After 1-0 count: 34 in 149 PA 9 (22.8%)

Actually, that seems more than slightly

Did Vin just say Ellis went to
Austin Peavy university?
That’s where the Padres like drafting pitchers, too.
That's a common mistake
Its actually “University of Peavy at Austin.” The locals get mad when you don’t say it right :)

Well - that sucked
I hate Brad Hawpe, he owns us.
If only he had a Soriano-esque out pitch

I'll take a HR here, a HR there with no one on

I live in Tuson.
So I have the luxury of not reading, hearing, or seeing him.
Plaschke's doucebaggery regarding the Dodgers
pales in his douchebaggery regarding USC football IMO. The articles he’s written over the years would have gotten him fired from any other major news outlet
It's not controversy per se
It’s incompetence. I’m talking about being blatantly wrong, misstating facts and statistics in attempts to prove asinine arguments, etc. At least with Manny – he’s just being inflammatory
I don’t know; I have been far angrier at things he has written about the Dodgers over the years than USC.

They’ve had a hell of a time.

The offense simply sucks right now
Is what is is. Happens to every team. It will turn around no doubt.
These radio Audrina Patridge Carl's Jr commercials kinda suck
Bigger fan of the TV spot – not gonna lie
This is a good game
even if we lose, nice to see Chad mowing down hitters again.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
June 30th and Castro leads the team in hitting:)
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
And yet we will probably still win this game. Strange team

You guys should check out the Red Sox game
They were up 10-1 going into the bottom of the 7th and now trail 11-10
Billingsley takes a strike
Best approach of anyone so far tonight
Maybe uh Marquis is actually pitching well too?
That and the fact that the ump has a pretty darned big strike zone. Which, honestly makes it harder to be taking pitches to get the strike zone up when the ump is calling everything a strike and Marquis has good control, too. Maybe foul some balls off if possible?
Kemp did take 3 pitches to strikeout in the 2nd
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes, god for bid we let our ace pitch to the fucking pitcher with 2 outs.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions
More like the batting order.
he walked Stewart intentionally to get to CarGo
then he pitched around Iannetta ahead 1-2 knowing the pitcher was on deck
He made one bad pitch
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:46 PM PDT up reply actions
No way you take your ace out with 2 out and the pitcher coming up, especially after torching your bullpen the night before. Chad doesn’t walk 2 and it’s a moot oint.
by KellyStephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:46 PM PDT up reply actions
I think he was trying to get him to chase with Marquis on deck.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions
Ianetta has power. No need to make a mistake to him
the pitcher gets a hit, what can you do
by Michael White on Jun 30, 2009 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions
Juan should have easily thrown out the guy at home but hes JUAN PIERRE
im getting so sick of him.. seriously now everyone knows why EVERYONE HATES JUAN PIERRE… weak grounders all day and horrible arm that cant prevent runs even though if he had a halfway decent arm it would have been easily out at home
I’m not a JP fan and I totally agree with the arm point, but the guy’s hit about .325 this year so I don’t think you can crap on him for “weak grounders all day”. That said, I’m getting a little tired of the LATimes making such a big deal about sitting him when Manny comes back. Sit Matt or Andre? NFW!

7th inning music
That music was terrible, even though I would have accepted Blind-Mellon Chitlon’s as OK.
Can we fit it on the album cover?
OK, even I’m surprised at this one. He’s really trying to get that 10th win.
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions
No, not at all…I meant to say Torre is trying to get Chad that 10th win.
Also, Chad is still dealing…those two walks last inning were semi-intentional
by Eric Stephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions
On that replay, it looked like Pierre was about 150 feet from home plate and Stewart had not yet rounded 3B. And he scored easily.
Can we just insert this comment in every game thread? The one last night where the guy tagged up from first on a fly ball to the track in left was more embarrassing.
by KellyStephen on Jun 30, 2009 8:59 PM PDT up reply actions
Payback maybe!
But I’m not sure the Rocks all choked that night!
It’s really not that hard to figure it out. Torre was clearly trying to save the pen tonight.

Mannyman commented on DT that Grandpa Elliot
did an amazing performance of God Bless America, he was featured in this really cool version of “stand by me” thats a mash-up type deal with street performers and such form all over the world.
O.A.
they were prob surprised it was this early
by KellyStephen on Jun 30, 2009 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions
It seemed like they screwed up
like the inning quickly ended and Vin didn’t do his usual thing of saying, “here’s GBA.” Instead it went right to commercial. I think it was a mistake.

ok, I've decided this must be a conspiracy
They’re making us all miss Manny so badly that no one will have the heart to boo him
O.A.
If they let Leach hit, and he hits a home run
I think that should count as me winning the whole month.
Degree of difficulty.
Stop being rational
;-) Don’t you know people can never tip hats to opp pitcher, instead our own team must be blamed at all costs.

Billz.
Well I’ll defend Chad because he will gauranarfingteed strike out at least one per inning even no matter how many runs he gives up or pitches he throws. I still will take him over almost anyone.
Gotta question the effot there
there is no way he should have been out that easy
Okay, I left an over the top sarcastic comment that certainly broke a rule over at DT. Hope that helps Dashiel!
Good point
Then, lets try to trade Matt Kemp for Robinson Cano.

I hadn't noticed
Guess he’s having a good year then; if memory serves he struggled last year. But I don’t pay too much attention to the DH league.
by Michael White on Jun 30, 2009 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions
He started really hot.
I haven’t paid attention to the AL either, so I’m guessing he really cooled down like Hudson did for us.
Here's the thing about forcing Billingsley to pitch that extra inning to perseve the bullpen.
If Billingsley gets torched, the bullpen gets used up anyway.
Just my two cents.
But I think the risk was worth the likelihood of the reward of Bills getting through it, which he almost did.

Rocks announcers
This evening has seemed really painful, after having to wait till almost 10:30 (EST) to begin things. But I have been forgetting that I have been listening to the rocks announcers for more than two hours, and they account for a large majority of the pain. I’m not sure if any of you guys out west have to listen to them, but I would bet a considerable percentage of listeners would choose The rack+thumb screws over this broadcast.
Agreed
it is extremely painful
