Dodgers Double Up the Brewers in Extras
The Dodgers gutted out another victory today, winning 12-8 in 10 innings. The Dodgers two best pitchers, Chad Billingsley and Jonathan Broxton, both struggled but the hitters were ready to pick up the slack. The game was tied 6-6 heading into extra innings but the Dodgers scored six runs in the 10th inning, four on a Matt Kemp grand slam.
Even on his fifth attempt, Chad Billingsley couldn't pick up his 10th win of the season. Chad threw 110 pitches in just 5 innings of work, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts. He was saved by Guillermo Mota who relieved him in the 6th inning and got out of a bases loaded nobody out jam allowing only one more run to score.
On the offensive side the Dodgers were explosive, hitting five home runs as a team. Andre Ethier, James Loney, all hit solo homers, Manny Ramirez hit a two run shot, and Matt Kemp hit a grand slam that broke the game open in the 10th inning.

Tomorrow the Dodgers will again take on the Brew Crew, this time at 4:05 PM with Jeff Weaver taking on Mike Burns. Who Mike Burns is, I don't know, but he does look like he could be a good real estate agent. Seriously though, he's a soon to be 31 year-old journeyman with a 5.79 ERA in 49 career games. There should be quite a few runs scored for both teams tommorow.
And in case you didn't notice, Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez threw a no-hitter today, the first by a Giant in 33 years. Even if you don't like the Giants, that's pretty cool.
WP - Ramon Troncoso (3-0): 1.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strikeout
LP - Carlos Villanueva (2-6): 0.1 IP, 3 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks, 0 strikeouts

Our bullpen is sapped for tomorrow's game.
Wade can’t pitch back to back.
Mota probably can pitch tomorrow.
Weaver has to start, and is likely on a pitch count.
No idea how long Vargas can go.
McDonald is probably the one who has to throw two innings to get us through tomorrow.
Broxton is probably burned.
Leach is likely to be a LOOGY again tomorrow.

I just want to say that that catch by Kemp
to end the game was one of the most beautiful catches I’ve seen in a loooong time. Especially considering the situation the game was in. If Kemp doesn’t catch that, probably ends up being a triple with the tying run coming to the plate.

I don't even think I have seen a dodger make that kind of catch, truly amazing.
What a great athlete, I bet Oral Roberts Uni basketball is still crying.

here's something for Eric...
“(After the catch) Torre said that Kemp ran into the dugout and shouted, “Willie Mays Hayes!”"
I like Kemp even more now

A philosophical riddle : If a pitcher pitches a no-hitter but he is a Giant player , do LA fans care?
We know nothing about the enemy. But we can assume this: they stand for everything we don’t stand for. Also they told me you guys look like dorks!

IF
you don’t like the giants?
Did I stumble on to the brewers blog or something.

Worried about Brox ...
Watched closely Broxton’s last outing. His last pitch to Kendal was flat, almost a strained pitch that topped out at 95 but bad location. Is it just me or does Broxton look as if he has hit a wall?

I think you left out ", and Russell Martin" in the home run recap.
The five homers were hit by Manny and the four core young players. This is the first time that Kemp, Ethier, Loney and Martin have homered in the same game.

Bills and the Blue Ox
Billingsley is likely fatigued. As I pointed out at the start of last night’s game, Bills was already leading the league in pitches thrown.
As for Broxton, remember he had a cortisone injection in his right big toe a couple weeks ago? I wonder if that is bothering him again. If he isn’t pushing off the rubber in his normal fashion, that would cause command problems and may increase the chance that his arm is compensating in some way and risking injuring the arm. If he’s hurting in any way, he’d better let the trainers/Torre/Honeycutt know so it can be fixed.

Deep into the previous game
when
Bills and Kuroda and Kid K have gone into the eighth, ninth innings in their previous outings are they often less than stellar in their next outing?
Seems like it to me – but I’m too lazy to look it up.
Once Broxton gets past 25 pitches he starts to run out of gas – Dude’s not trained for endurance.

Broxton didn’t look good in the first 25 pitches either.

Yeah - You're right
Broxton wasn’t too sharp in his previous outing either.
Ok, now I’m concerned about his toe and possible complications to his arm due to compensating for his toe too.

I would like to see both Brox and Bills get "right'
whether it’s rest, short stint on the DL, or adjustments in their training regiments. They are too important to the ballclub to get burned- out or injured because of too many pitches thrown (Bills), or because of compensation due to a old injury (Brox).
