Ned Coletti was right. *
He was right about Mota. He was right, and I was wrong.
I was dumb, and wrong.
And its all due to Mota adding a leg kick. I'll never understand pitching mechanics.
Anyway, after the Clayton Kershaw no-hit bid, Mota gave up a grandslam in that game and had a sterling ERA of 9.00
Then he added the leg kick, and now he is a different pitcher. His current ERA after this game is 3.57(07/10/09), and his FIP coming into this game was 4.17. Not great, but certainly, it shows that Mota's pitching closer to his true talent over the course of the season.
His WHiP is a good 1.15, he's pitching in pressure situations now, and he's picking up the slack that went to Cory Wade, and the recently DL'ed Belisario.
So yeah, I was wrong. I was wrong and dumb. And Ned was right.

It's still not a good value signing unless that FIP decrease more.

Do you mean
for the total season or from when he modified his mechanics?

Besides ...
Ned BACKS INTO success. I’m sorry but signing Schmidt, Jones and Pierre for the tens of millions he did is in no way erased by LUCKING into Manny or Mota being able to fix himself after his disastrous Florida game.

I don't really agree
It’s not really fair to say that all the things that have gone right are because of luck and all the things that have gone wrong are because Ned is a disaster. Schmidt and Jones didn’t work out, but I’ll raise my hand and say I was in favor of both of those moves at the time. Pierre is a different story, as I hated that signing at the time and frankly still do. But all the deals this year that have worked out, Beli, MIlton, Weaver, Mota, Hudson, Wolf, even Blake. You can’t just say it’s all luck.

I was in favor of the Schmidt signing at the time also, BUT
I was not aware of the fact that Ned knew that there was a problem with Schmidt’s shoulder and took the risk anyway. That changes the equation entirely, and with that fact, I would have had to reconsider the commitment Ned made. Seems like Ned should have known (or assumed?) that every team that examined Schmidt would see the shoulder and it wouldn’t take as much as 3yrs/$47M to be the highest bidder, or that that contract was too big a risk to take with the boss’s money.

Ditto on Schmidt
Still very impressed with how Ned’s deals have worked out this year.

Done Well...Sorta
Done well enough recently besides Furcal and Santana/Blake.
I hated the Schmidt/Jones/Pierre deals. Pierre was trash for years, Jones was declining, and Schmidt’s velocity was down in that last year. I remember my Giants fans pals laughing at me when they announced that deal. Ugh.
Then again, i’m pessimistic, so take that as you will.

Hey, Mota's outing tonight wasn't my fault.

It seems as if the Dodgers have always been great at correcting the definciencies of pitchers coming from other organizations…

Not as good as the Cardinals have been as of late, but I agree with your comment, P.C.
