Elias Ranking

MLBTR explains the Elias Ranking  and this  link displays the current rankings which has some interesting information. These ranking determine the compensation when a player leaves to be a free agent. Here are the current Dodger rankings.

Manny, Kemp, Andre, Martin,Hudson(FA), Blake, Billingsley, Broxton, Kuo, Wade - Type A

Loney, Wolf(FA), Kuroda, Troncoso, Ohman(FA), Belisario, Mota(FA) - Type B

Pierre, Furcal, Kershaw- None

Thought Wolf might have moved into Type A territory and he's very close. With a ranking of 69 points, he's only three points from moving into the Type A territory.

if hudson and wolf are type As, do you think the dodgers will resign them or offer Arb and get draft picks for them?

Assuming both are healthy at the end of the year, I fully expect Hudson to be offered arbitration. I would be Wolf gets offered arb as well, but less likely than O-Dog. Still lots of time between now and then.

I certainly hope we are in the situation to make those choices. :)

With all the incentives kicking in for both Wolf and Hudson.

They can get at least $10 million each from the Dodgers next year.

On a one year arbitration it might be worth the gamble.

Not sure I’d use the words “at least” instead of “at most”. They both might want long term deals and turn down arbitration. The worse case scenario is that you have an expensive 2nd/SP locked up for 2010, but I’d hate to lose the chance for those draft picks. You’d have to think the Mets might be all over Hudson and their pick would not be protected.

Obviously there is a lot of season left, but if the season ended today the Mets would pick 10th.

I suspect they will improve though, hopefully to 16th :)

When Beltran, Reyes, and Delgado return

that should help change their fortunes. That is a load of talent sitting on the DL.

If both are able to be in a position to command such a salary, it will be because they had a good and healthy 2008, so I’m all for it.

I think Hudson is a lock to decline arbitration if in that position.

If Wolf decides to accept, I’d gladly pay him for one year (and I don’t think it will be quite as high as $10 million)

What's the opposite of "with a bullet"?

Since playing time matters with Elias, I imagine Kuo is Type A with an anchor.

by David Young on Jul 13, 2009 1:29 PM PDT reply actions

Its also “with a bullet” but the difference is the aim of the gun.

by Eric Stephen on Jul 13, 2009 1:30 PM PDT up reply actions

It matter little for Kuo, but aren’t the lines between A and B, and between B and nothing, based on top-something % of all players? Therefore a borderline guy moves from B to A if/when a Kuo drops down?
