Logan White Scouting Halladay; Looking at Relievers
Ken Gurnick of MLB.com writes that assistant GM Logan White and special assistant Lance Lovelace were scouting Roy Halladay during his start against the Red Sox yesterday. The biggest problem with getting Halladay according to Gurnick is his salary and the money it will take to extend his contract past 2010, when he is scheduled to become a free agent.
Gurnick also mentions that the Dodgers still have acquiring a reliever high on their list of priorities. He mentions Francisco Cordero, David Weathers, Arthur Rhodes, and George Sherrill. The first three are all on the Reds so we should get to see them in the next few days.

Scouting Halladay
I’m guessing White’s scouting report of Halladay is something along the lines of: “He’s very good.”
Neds World, Neds World
Thanks for setting me up Brandon. For the record, Dodger Sims likes Sherril the most of those relief pitcher names mentioned. Rhodes is the 2nd choice. I wouldn’t touch Weathers or Cordero with a 9 foot pole.

Brendan man, Brendan. ;-)
But honestly, I don’t think I’d want any of them. Sherrill is pretty good but he is overacheiving and given his closer status I’d bet he’ll be way overpriced. Weathers is garbage with a fluky ERA. Rhodes is a decent lefty specialist but with Leach and potentially Kuo (plus Kershaw or Wolf in the playoffs out of the ‘pen if we get another starter) I don’t see the need. Cordero is a nice arm but his contract makes him untradeable I think/hope.
