Elbert Pulled - Prospects with bags packed - Dodger Prospects Top Performances and Minor League Box Scores - July 29th, 2009

Scott Elbert was pulled from his AAA start last night and is headed for LA. For what role we can only guess. Ned says he is not part of a trade but questions still remain if my top ranked prospect will actually be in a Dodger uniform come Saturday Morning.

Other prospects that may no longer be part of this series after this Friday  besides Elbert are Lindblom, McDonald, Josh Bell, Chris Withrow, Ivan DeJesus Junior, Tony Abreu, Blake DeWitt, Josh Bell, Andrew Lambo, Victor Garate, Dee Gordon, and Steve Johnson. These are all names we can expect to be bandied about.

The most recent rumor is that the BlueJays are "only" asking for 5-6 of our top prospects instead of Billingsley or Kershaw for the Doc. As much as I like our prospects I can't think of five prospects I wouldn't trade for 1 1/2 years of Doc Halladay. The price is steep but the Phillies sent four prospects to the Indians for Lee. Canuck thinks I'm clueless for saying this, do you agree?

From BP's Kevin Goldstein:

Sleeper Alert!

Steven Johnson, RHP, Dodgers (Double-A Chattanooga)
Monday's stats: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
A 13th-round pick in 2005 and the son of former big leaguer and Orioles broadcaster Dave Johnson, Steven has taken a slow-but-steady rise through the Dodgers system. He has taken a big step forward this year, striking out 102 in 96.2 innings for High-A Inland Empire and now 15 in 10 2/3 frames over his first two Double-A starts. He's not a monster by any stretch, but his fastball and breaking ball both rate a tick above average and there's some deception to his delivery. Scouts think he could fit in the back of the rotation when all is said and done.

James Adkins showing signs of life with his 3rd straight solid start.  Only two earned runs in his last 19 innings and his walk rate in July is now in single digits with an increasing K rate.

Timothy Sexton saw his teammate Steve Johnson get promoted and wants the same treatment. He's making a good case for himself with eight shutout innings last night, and no walks.

Josh Bell and Tony Abreu both cooled off with hitless nights.

Kensai – Are you sure Enlly is DH? He has more at bats as a 2nd baseman then as a DH which is why his numbers are intriguing. I expect he is only DH when he’s hurt.

we should trade sexton to the Twins

they have a bunch of these kind of pitchers control with average stuff. Like kevin slowey, scott baker, and nick blackburn.

sexton can be a good 5th starter in 2 years but dont except greatness out of him
