Clogging The Bases - July 7
Welcome to our July contest, "Clogging The Bases."
The contest is about total bases for both teams in each Dodger game. For each game, you have to guess two things:
1) Combined Total Bases From Both Teams, including singles, doubles (2 bases), triples (3 bases), homers (4 bases), walks (1 base), HBP (1 base), and net stolen bases (SB - CS, 1 base)
2) First player to score a run in the game
As an example, the June 30th Dodgers/Rockies game featured 5 singles, 2 homers, 3 walks, and one net stolen base, so the number of total bases was 17. This was an extraordinarily low number. The first player to score was Brad Hawpe.
The most important thing is to guess the correct number of total bases. There cannot be multiple guesses of the same total bases.
The next most important thing is to guess the first player to score a run. There can be multiple guesses of the same player, but no identical guesses with the same total bases and player.
In case of a tie of total bases with no correct player scoring, under beats over.
If there is nobody within 10 total bases of the actual total, yet someone picks the correct player to score the first run of the game, that person will win.
Only guesses in this thread will count, and they must be received before the first pitch of the game.
The person who has the most wins at the end of June will win their choice of Bluetopia on DVD, a 2009 Dodger Media Guide, a copy of "100 Things Dodgers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die" by Jon Weisman, or a 2009 Topps Dodgers' team baseball card set!

| July 5 | no winner | n/a | 58/Ethier |
Matthewmafa was closer to the actual number with his guess of 36 bases, but he didn't get his guess in before the game time of 1:05pm. Xeifrank was the closest among those who got their entry in on time. I forgot about my own 10-base rule. As a result, there is no winner for July 5. Thanks to the always honorable Xeifrank for pointing this out.

July 5th Result
Eric, I’d like to take credit for the July 5th contest, but I was not within 10 runs of the final total and nobody picked Ethier to score the first run. So, if I am reading the rules correctly, there should be no winner for that day.

I think you are misinterpreting your own rule, or I don't think that rule means what you think it means.
If there is nobody within 10 total bases of the actual total, yet someone picks the correct player to score the first run of the game, that person will win.
That says that a correct first player to score beats the closest TB guess if the guess is greater than 10 TB off. It doesn’t says that a guess more than 10 TB off cannot win. Or to put it another way, the rule above is not incompatible with, “If no one picks TB within 10, and no one picks the correct player to score first, the closest TB still wins.” Perhaps the rule before this should be “A TB guess must be within 10 TB in order to be considered a possible winner.”
I wasn’t surprised you named xeifrank the winner because I believed you meant that a closest TB guess not within 10 could be trumped by a correct player guess, but would win otherwise.
BTW, is “within 10” inclusive or exclusive or 10? It should be inclusive, right?

Yes, after having my lawyer read the rules we think you are right. I think the rule should probably be clarified a little bit and if Eric gives me the win or not, I won’t complain. But my lawyer is a real hardass. :)

Every guess between 30 and 36, inclusive, is taken at this point
Make that between 30 and 37
37 TB
Furcal
