Of course Loretta and Martin batting ahead of Ethier and Kemp.

With Ethier it makes sense since his batting against lefties is bad.

However Kemp is crushing LHP this season, his line is .384/.483/.630/1.113.

Kemp should bat at least 5th against LHP .

Is the game on Kcal?

If so, are they going to switch off this fire coverage?

by Yodasbrthr on Jul 8, 2009 4:00 PM PDT reply actions

Crap.

That fire is in the Sepulveda Pass. That will screw up the 405 traffic and, therefore, my commute home.

by David Young on Jul 8, 2009 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Hmmm, yeah.

Right now the backup is 90 to Getty Center, which is pretty normal, albeit at slower speeds.

Thanks to the carpool lanes, I can actually make ok time from El Segundo via the 105/110 through downtown, believe it or not, although I’ve only done that once. PCH to Topanga will be screwed, I’m sure.

by David Young on Jul 8, 2009 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Although SM is a little out of the way. Got the whole west side to choose from though.

Anyone who takes on Well's contract

should not be adding any players to the pot. It might be the worse contract in baseball at this point. I’m a little surprised that Toronto isn’t tying Wells contract to Halladay. The return wouldn’t be as great but it would free up some major assets for this winter.

by meercatjohn on Jul 8, 2009 4:05 PM PDT reply actions

Hell no to that Halladay trade, should we just give them stadium too in that proposed rumor trade.

Talk about getting raped, the Blue Jays would be bending us over if that trade happened.

That is good news.

If Mota continues to pitch well and if J-Mac can be good out of the pen then should give Torre some flexibility with the pen when all are healthy.

Hudson to 2nd, Kemp should be up but Loretta is

Has Torre explained why Kemp bats so low?

by shoothoop on Jul 8, 2009 4:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, but it really boils down to Torre not wanting to put too much pressure on his youngest starting position player, believing that playing CF every day already provides enough pressure.

If Kemp hits like this all season, he will be hitter higher eventually. Like in 2010. After all, in 2010, something wonderful happens.

The guys were saying how Wolf is changing his number back to 43 (he couldn’t get it before because random guys were being assigned the number and the number is finally free so he decided he’s going to change it) and Kershaw asked him “Why is it because you want to be 4-3” (Wolf’s record right now is 3-3). So Wolf goes "Yeah, Then after, for my next start I’m going to change it to 53 and so on

Then I guess Kershaw paused and he asked “You don’t want a locker next to me?” because when the guys are on the road their lockers are assigned through numerical order.

Good thing Kemp was hitting 8th

so we didn’t have a major league hitter up in that situation.

by bpriebe on Jul 8, 2009 7:41 PM PDT reply actions

And the same Ethier who has been terrible lately.

Walk-off hits are great, but so is consistent production. One single in 18 days. 8 for his last 53. The list can go on and on. He is not a good hitter right now, plain and simple.

Saying he is not a major league hitter was a bit reactionary (and patently false), but he has been pretty bad for a long stretch outside of a couple of clutch hits and a fair number of home runs.

by bpriebe on Jul 8, 2009 7:47 PM PDT up reply actions

He is slumping

But l don’t believe lineups should be dictated by hot hands and slumps – you can’t predict when those begin and end. Matt Kemp has been pretty consistent and this hitting 8th stuff is getting a little old. I think Joe is now too fascinated with wrapping his speed around to the top of the order.

He could just as easily have walked in a run in the fifth. The fifth, IMO, is still kinda early for leverage and smoke jumpers.

You can’t just say that Troncoso would have just walked somebody in the 5th.

Eh, wasn’t trying to say that. Just might have. The important point is the last sentence.

by David Young on Jul 8, 2009 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions

We will never know, no point to focus on it.

Ethier grounded into the double play.
Casey made that error.
That one ball hit took an unlucky bounce.
Had Loretta been called safe at first we potentially could have got a run in.

All the things COULD HAVE happened but they didn’t. Sometimes it’s just not your night. You win some, you lose some. You can’t win em’ all

Agreed with you there

I think it's fair to pin this stuff on Torre

His ridiculous and pathetic lineup is really starting to cost us. Loretta in the 5 hole and Kemp in the 8th slot is the kind of shit only Tony La Russa could get away with. It’s a joke.

I got to say ...

Torre’s lineup’s often confound me….

by Pedro's curse on Jul 8, 2009 7:44 PM PDT reply actions

I'll agree that Kemp batting eight is something to complain about

but complaining about Wade and Ethier is simply whining. Andre has come thru plenty of times in big situations and Wade did his job. So did Mota again, the same guy most of you wanted released in April.

Very true

The difference is you can’t control double plays, errors, men LOB, etc.

Kemp’s situation is an intentional act on Torre’s part that is hurting the team.

You want something to complain about

Andruw Jones hit his 12th home run tonight. Chew on that tonight.

I don't think it's fair to complain about Wade's performance.

He did his job. Only gave up 1 run with bases loaded, 1 out. That’s performing

I question whether he should be on the team though.

Kuroda kind of sucked considering the lineup he faced. If anyone wears the goat horns it is him. Then Hudson, then Ethier. But it is just one game. Ethier’s streaks are frustrating when he’s off but other worldly when he’s on. I’ll prefer a more consistent approach but how many Manny’s are there?

by Phil Gurnee on Jul 8, 2009 7:57 PM PDT reply actions

I think Kuroda combined some suck with some unlucky. Castillo could easily been out on the two-out RBI chopper. Blake could have turned two and gotten out of that inning with one run instead of three.

It’s just too bad that tomorrow isn’t a house money game.

by David Young on Jul 8, 2009 7:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Make that 13 for Andruw - two so far tonight

His physician must be more discreet than Manny’s. ;)

Ogden is bitchslapping their opponents 19-1

Songco is continuing his power showcase tonight with 3 more hits.

Coolies.

He should get promoted ASAP.
