Three Prospect Stars *** of the Day
While the first inning web site is down I thought we'd reconstitue ASUCruz stars of the day.
Three Stars of the Day 07/07/09
1. Jason Schmidt - RHP - Isotopes (AAA)
Jason's final line was not that impressive but he has now made five starts in a row and he's never done that while under a Dodger contract. In this one he went six innings, gave up four runs, one walk, and had six K's. In his last three starts he's had 18 K's /2 walks so his command seems to be spot on. Looks like we will be seeing him in the fifth starter spot after the all-star game.
2. Mario Songco -LF - Odgen (Rookie League)
Slugged his sixth home run in only 53 at bats and now has a lofty 1.190 OPS, good for 3rd in the league. That is the good news, the bad news is that so far he's done all his damage against RHP and has struck out 15 times in 53 at bats. When Kyle Russel gets promoted, maybe Songco will take his place.
3. Tim Sexton - SP - Inland Empire 66ers (A+)
Sexton threw six shutout innings in winning his fourth straight start. After starting the season 1 - 8, he's starting to rack up the wins and is now 5 - 8. His 2.72 ERA nows sits 2nd on the California League leaderboard.

Who knew that a 37 year old man can be a prospect! :)
I’d put the odds of Schmidt being on the post season roster at 10%.
Tough odds
it is one thing to finish the season as the fifth starter, it is another to make the postseason roster when your previous role was the fifth starter. What are the odds he is the fifth starter by the end of the season. I think with each six inning rehab start it climbs higher and higher.
Nineteen year old Carl Webster
I forgot to mention this guy.
So move Jason to FYI and give some stars to this kid.
Carl Webster, 2008 18th round pick is kicking ass in Arizona. Four games, 19 IP, 24 K’s, and only 3 walks.
