Hudson is batting 7th for the first time since August 20, 2006. He batted 7th a lot during that first season in Arizona, and has batted 7th 113 times in his career before tonight.
I think its crap that this game didn’t start at 1:00 local time as opposed to 7 since the Dodgers have to play in Milwaukee tomorrow.
I'm glad they put Ethier back in front of Manny
yeah, he had a horrible game last night. But i’m sure we all remember how well he did there last year.
It does seem that way…either Loney or Martin.
Starts batting 5th
Loney 28 (including tonight)
Martin 26
Ethier 14
Blake 10
Kemp 5
Loretta 2
Batting 5th
only the Padres have a worse OPS from the #5 spot this season.
Dodgers #5 hitters are hitting .231/.324/.310, with 38 runs (t-21st), 2 HR (last), and 37 RBI (t-27th)
From Diamond Lueng.
“Matt Kemp has pretty much made the National League All-Star team, this after the fans picked Shane Victorino in the Final Vote over Pablo Sandoval. MLB was already pushing NL manager Charlie Manuel to pick Kemp over his own player Victorino even if Sandoval had won the vote.”
Also
I think Craig88USC was right on DT when he noted that injury replacements need to be of the same position.
I didn’t notice, is Rick Monday flying solo (Steiner is out for a couple of days) or does he have an analyst?
well
I think Blake called an audible :)

David Wright was beyond deep

if he had gotten it up the line a decent amount
he could’ve beaten it out twice

well then i guess we see it every year
but certainly not every day :)

Just heard from Josh Rawitch
This game was always scheduled as a night game. Its not too much of a concern with the relatively short flight to Milwaukee.
The time change probably helps. Roughly 2 hour flight, but you get 1 back with the time change.

that was hilarious

Not a big fan
of purposely getting thrown out on the bases to get the infield to cutoff the throw and let the runner score in a situation like that. Sure if it was the go ahead run late in the game or something.
vr, Xei
O-Dug getting thrown out to give Kemp an honest at bat
If he stays at second, then Kemp is given the IBB and Wolf makes the last out. By getting thrown out, Hudson has given Kemp a chance to get a solo shot to lead off the 2nd.
That Orlando…always thinkin’ a few plays ahead.

of course...
in a way, Wolf’s hitting is the only reason we won the Colorado series

So is Ohman done for the year or something?
or did he just give up the number?

Monday
Rick Monday must be on the payroll for Hit Tracker Online. He has mentioned the site a couple of times every game vs the Mets. It’s a cool site and I am glad that Monday is aware of it, but he is really pimping it hard.
vr, Xei
I may need to get a jersey of #22 so Eric and I can represent the dynamic duo.
We’ll pitch in to buy Phil a Big John uni
not quite but nice catch anyways

My semi-joking six shutout innings prediction is already shot.
Maybe Wolf can get six shutout innings, after the 1st :)
Lyons has a good point
ESPN was wayyy over promoting Victorino for the Final Vote. Kemp never even got a mention
i mean all of the sportscenter guys
during highlights…everything about the dodgers was Manny, Manny Manny
by bucknellbruin on Jul 9, 2009 4:43 PM PDT up reply actions
OK
that, I agree with. Even the MLB Network, which has been great so far, lowered itself to Manny-centric highlights.
the one that bugged me was tuesday.
they showed Manny’s 4 AB’s, and never even mentioned that our 21 year old has an ERA of 3.27

When SilverWidow starts pimping fetuses to start , that is smack talk.
Maybe my favorite line ever here.

Back to last night's game for a moment
Oliver Perez is one of only 5 pitchers to have two or more starts against the LAD with seven or more walks. The others:
Joey Jay (3 times)
Dick Drott (3)
Mario Soto
Bruce Berenyi
The Reds won both Soto games.
its not Wolf
Its the freaking umpire missing 2 striekouts
As I recall he's always been a good hitter
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
This looks like a fun game to watch. To bad I'm going to miss it.
Nothing but good news so far today.
Kuo in AAA
Kemp looks like he’ll be named to the all-star team, becoming the first outfielder to hit 8th on a regular basis and make an all-star team
Belisario just needs rest
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Who is our long man with Weaver going Saturday?
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Right, missed him when I going over the pitchers in my head
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
It sounds like he was going to pitch 2 innings Tuesday night until he got hit by that ball. So I think you are right, Vargas will be the long man.
I hope so
but when he cant throw a curve for a strike that means a lot of fastballs

Q. for Lyons?
Why would you try to steal w/ 2 outs and the pitcher at bat?
by insomniacslounge on Jul 9, 2009 5:13 PM PDT reply actions
But risk vs reward doesn't seem like it's worth it to me
If you’re safe, you still need the pitcher to come up w/ a hit to score. If you’re out, you’ve got the pitcher leading off the next inning.

1968 Dodger draft - 5 All-Stars
Bill Buckner, Tom Paciorek, Doyle Alexander in the June portion (also Bobby Valentine if you count managers)
Garvey & Cey in the June secondary portion
he gets ahead in the count like 0-2
than he cant finish them off he either gives up a hit or walks them
no strikeouts
I hope Herbert Garrison wins whatever prize they are giving away (I think a mattress). He gets it if Loney homers this inning.
Wow
Once again we show our patented base running skills of getting thrown out at 3rd or 2nd with 2 outs. Coulda busted it open even more.
I looked on Bill James Online…
Dodgers are +24 in “baserunning gain,” which measures extra bases taken versus outs, opportunities. That is tied for 6th in MLB with AZ.
Looks they have made 23 outs on the bases (non steals) before tonight.
I think they are just playing an overall aggressive style that so far has paid off.

163. The Mets make Russlan sad Posted: July 09, 2009 at 08:47 PM (#3248194)
Holy crap.
Metsblog is saying Pedro has signed with the Phillies.
I have to say, the whole Ron Artest picking #37 because that’s how many weeks Thriller was #1 on the charts is both hilarious and great.
I think I’m going to really enjoy the Artest Era
Some parts are pretty funny. His opening line was “Where’s TMZ?” There was also one bit where he said “Once again I’m underpaid (hugs Lakers GM) but it’s okay, at the end of the day if you can’t live with 33 million you can’t live”
I heard one clip where someone asked about meeting Kobe in the shower last year, and didn’t Artest start with “I’m not a homosexual or anything…”???
Yeah the shower story is here http://stevemasonsmog.typepad.com/john_irelands_plog_710_es/2009/07/ron-artest-to-the-lakers-.html
Artest said “I didn’t mean to walk in the shower with him. Yeah, I walked in the shower. I’m not a homosexual, but Kobe – he had no clothes on.”
I thought he just mentioned his family.
I do know that he forced the D’backs to trade him after a year in Arizona.
Classic Rick Monday just now…his story ran into the start of the Wright PA, so he caught up with the classic “takes a breaking ball, and right back with a fastball for 1-1”
98 pitches through 5.
Wolf isn’t on a strict pitch count. So he will get the chance to pitch the 6th inning.
Of course he does
They’re two golden arches.

You can't stop Juan Castro, you can only hope to contain him.
I wish he had a fan section called the Castro District. Rainbow Dodger caps!
I think Eric S. is busy finishing his game recap.
Would be pretty sad if Wolf got a no-decision tonight.
With 3 hits tonight, Matt Kemp is the first Dodger to reach 100 hits this season.
That’s a pace for 190 hits (since you can’t get 0.6 of a hit).
Maybe on pace for even more too if he ever gets moved up a few spots.

So why did Sheffield get ejected?

It’s not even clear to me that Toronto needs to trade Halladay at all, so it will take a lot to make them want to do a deal.
OTOH, J. P. Riccardi can be had. Just ask B. J. Ryan and his agent.
There's rumors that his owners are telling him to slash payroll.
But J.P. Riccardi has another year left so he also needs to save his own ass.
Boston was far more desparate to move Manny than Toronto is Halladay
And there was few real competitors for Manny.
And Boston got more.
why can’t the Mets get relief pitchers
like Vargas and Mota?

If Claudio Vargas or Guillermo Mota throw one more perfect inning, I’m going to lose it.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game and I have no more faith left in this team, but I will still absolutely freaking lose it.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
