Boo! Lincecum Currently Nursing a No-Hitter Through 5 IP

Yes, that title is a blatant attempt to jinx the Freak known as Tim Lincecum into losing his no hitter and more importantly staying as far away from Hershiser's record as possible.  Am I the only one that gets anxious whenever anyone capable starts getting within 20 innings of the Bulldog's record?

The only question I have is the way the Giants are handling him.  He's already at 126 innings pitched this season, which means he's on pace for around 250 innings pitched for the year.  This is only his 3rd season in the majors in which he threw 146.1 innings in his rookie year and 227 innings in his sophmore year.  Doesn't this seem like they're overworking him just a little?  Maybe I just don't know enough about how to take care of your pitcher's arm, but it seems like they should lay off of the complete games a little bit.

He's at 62 pitches through through his 5 innings pitched of no-hit ball... jinx!

Go Dodgers!

He now has a NO HITTER through 6 INNINGSS!!

7th inning has the heart of the order coming up so its going to be their best chance to break it up

Through 6 innings tonight, Lincecum is at 29 straight scoreless innings. Very impressive, yes. But don’t wake until he’s in the 40s

Lincecum vs Kershaw

both drafted in 2006; Kershaw 7th, Lincecum 10th. Lincecum is now 25, won Cy Young, and arguably the best pitcher in MLB. Kershaw is 21. Knowing what you know now, if you could go back to 2006, which would you draft at no. 7, Kershaw or Lincecum?

Lincecum

because he could be the difference between a world champion now.

If anyone is going to approach Orel I could see it being this guy.

The Giants now have two players I really enjoy watching in Lincecum and Sandoval. I expect many Giant fans enjoy watching Kemp and Kershaw.

Inning pitched

Don’t have any numbers to go off of, but if you were to look at them, I think that they would show that he has been averaging somewhere around 13 or so pitches an inning, his last 5 or six starts. Point being, Lincecum has been lights out lately and has not thrown many pitches relative to his innings pitched.

These kind of numbers are available at baseball-reference.com

Lincecum:
2386 pitches, 3.86 P/PA – 2007 (he also pitched in the minors)
3680, 3.97 – 2008
1930, 3.76 – 2009 (18 starts)

Compare to Billingsley, as an example:
2512, 4.03 – 2007 (20 starts, 23 relief apperances)
3322, 3.87 – 2008
1960, 4.01 – 2009 (18 starts)

A different part of b-r gives 1969 pitches for Billingsley this year, which leads the majors. Lincecum is fifth.

Should have tried this with Sanchez.

I applaud Uribe for blowing the perfect game though
