Pudge II had a couple of low walk years, but the closest his OBP came to his BA was .012 & .013
Thanks
I thought he may have accomplished that dubious honor his last full year with Detroit

I've been wondering...
Why does Loney always seem to get a day off against the lefties, but not Ethier? Loney’s stats are better against southpaws than Andre, yet it’s James who sits.
Luke: Your overconfidence is your weakness.
Palpatine: Your faith in your friends is yours.
I think it is because we would be replacing him with Pierre, another lefty. Plus, it moves Pierre to center and Kemp(Mr. UZR) would have to play right.
Bingo…also Loney’s weird splits this year are fluky…career he has a more normal split
by Eric Stephen on Aug 10, 2009 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions
Good point
Pierre in center scares me.
Luke: Your overconfidence is your weakness.
Palpatine: Your faith in your friends is yours.
Though Pierre also has good stats against LHP's,
The defense is enough of a reason to keep him on the bench

I guess we know the Giants fans aren’t booing Manny cuz of the steroids.
Or if they are, they have a very short memory.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
My friend texted me about a Bruce Bochy interview the day Manny got suspended...
…he said: “We don’t like the Dodgers and he (Ramirez) has done nothing but cheat the game. I am glad he got caught. There is no room in the game for cheaters.”
Gee, funny you didn’t speak up about steroids two years ago…
He’s doing fine so far. Its a great place for flyballs.

Somehow I don’t think that was a Vin quote

Furcal didn’t need to do that so quickly.
Loretta’s footwork isn’t what we would call classic at 1B. that’s two ! :)
By the way he’s calling things he’ll get a job in the Dodger front office. Let’s hope for a playoff assignment!

If Hohn ever got called into the office for his firing, he would just twist his mustache in a nefarious manner, like P.J. O’Pootertoot, and somehow keep his job.

I love the confidence that Vin tries to instill in the umps.

So when a manager gets ejected, can he still call in decisions from the visitor’s clubhouse?

L.A. Times reporting that Chad Billingsley had a bad bullpen session and might go on the DL.
Charlie Steiner said the bullpen session went better than the Dodgers thought it would, but Chad still won’t be able to start. A much more optimistic view.
So which view is closer?
Charlie is definately with the team

I love wingstop. lemon pepper wings and the fries are the best.
He should have at least one ring taken away for the bounced pitch.
Much like Kareem at the Coliseum game last season. That pitch (one of 37 ceremonial 1st pitches) was just awful. In my mind, he now only has 5 rings. I took away the Milwaukee one :)

I think it just worked out that way tonight…everyone available probably except Mota, Tron Tron, and J-Mac…so we still have Sherrill if needed and then Broxton.
Plus, Belisario can start the 8th too.

They should start Mota, have him hit the first 3 batters and get tossed. Then the Freak will retaliate in the top of the 2nd and get tossed as well. Another Dodgers victory.

not a bad idea

Sounds better than "Fry Stop"
Luke: Your overconfidence is your weakness.
Palpatine: Your faith in your friends is yours.
Kuo threw 6 pitches tonight. If needed, he could easily pitch the next two games (although I doubt they would use him Wednesday too). Didn’t really have a problem with it.
And Belisario threw 3. The platoon advantage was gained twice, and neither pitcher was “abused.”
AKA we have a kick ass bullpen. Suck on it, rest of league :)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 10, 2009 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions
And in Kuo’s case, they only warm him up once so it was go time.

Hudson seemed to be grimacing after that great defensive play. Didn’t think much of it, but Castros in to replace the Odog…
And who do the Giants have?
No one. Exactly. Junior could take down the entire 49ers roster.

Wow, no slide from Furcal?!
Kinda unusual to throw for the trailing runner there, interesting and possibly heads up play by Molina
Nice description. He really did look like he was not interested in that AB after being forced to try and bunt.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Well, that and with two strikes its about 10 times harder to hit.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 10, 2009 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions
Agreed
No need to bunt a real hitter with a three-run lead. He ended up sending the runners anyway, so why not do that 1-1, even after the first bunt attempt.
Maybe it’s Bob Schaefer that’s the dumb bunny over there.
by David Young on Aug 10, 2009 10:09 PM PDT up reply actions
IF that had been Kemp instead of Furcal, he would have been roasted by Rick Monday and the media in general
Because with two strikes he had to cut down his swing

Torre did not do the offense any favors. Russ has been swinging the bat well lately. Give him some confidence and let him hit there. We could have turned 4-1 into a blowout possibly.

If A runner is on first base, what are the odds he will advance to 2nd base when Brox is pitching, 100%?
he made it a little too interesting
but whatever, he got the save, he’s a good closer, just i don’t know if he’s gonna get the job done

Jonathan Broxton leads the majors (with Huston Street) in relief appearances of at least one inning without allowing a baserunner, with 23.
Honestly I truly believe some of you just don’t pay attention.
He also leads all active closers in strikeouts.
A closer who can take the defense out of the equation is great.
Luke: Your overconfidence is your weakness.

when he throws more strikes
he can be as dominant as Gagne in 03
not that he isnt right now of course
Which is why Molina's HR didn't bother me.
With a three-run lead, the bases-empty HR didn’t mean a whole lot, but at least I knew he was throwing strikes.
by David Young on Aug 10, 2009 10:26 PM PDT up reply actions
He also leads the majors in heart attacks given to fans.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 10, 2009 10:28 PM PDT up reply actions
Completely contradictory to Eric's posted fact
But he DID have a three-run lead. See my comment above – he was throwing strikes. With the lead, that is a time to challenge hitters. Molina happened to win that one because Broxton left it up. Oh well.
