Just A Bit Outside - August 12

Welcome to our August contest: "Just A Bit Outside."

The contest is simple:  Before each game you have to guess two things:

1) Number of called balls thrown by the opposing team

2) Number of walks issued to the Dodgers (yes, intentional walks count)

No multiple guesses on the number of balls; it is OK, however, to have multiple guesses on the number of walks.  Only guesses in that day's contest thread, posted before game time, will count.

We ran this contest in May, so if you want an example of how it works, here is an example.

The person who has the most wins at the end of August will win their choice of Bluetopia on DVD, a 2009 Dodger Media Guide, or a copy of "100 Things Dodgers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die" by Jon Weisman.

**********

Date Winner Guess Actual
August 1           DonovanNeb    44 balls / 3 walks      38 balls / 2 walks
August 2 Tripon 65 balls / 5 walks 67 balls / 4 walks
August 3 DonovanNeb (2)       47 balls / 4 walks 41 balls / 1 walks
August 4 Boulder Dodger 63 balls / 5 walks 63 balls / 5 walks
August 5 Matthewmafa 47 balls / 3 walks 43 balls / 2 walks
August 6 Tripon (2) 59 balls / 5 walks 59 balls / 3 walks
August 7 no winner ----- 80 balls / 7 walks
August 8 shaqfor3 67 balls / 3 walks 67 balls / 5 walks
August 9 Talka1ot 48 balls / 3 walks 49 balls / 2 walks
August 10 shaqfor3 (2) 61 balls / 4 walks 61 balls / 4 walks
August 11 shaqfor3 (3) 66 balls / 5 walks 69 balls / 5 walks

This one was a close one, and perhaps controversial.  Mwhite06 picked 70 balls and 7 walks, while shaqfor3 picked 66 and 5.  The actual count was 69 and 5.  Mwhite06 was closer in balls (by two over shaqfor3), but was two off on the walks.  Shaqfor3 hit the walks dead on, and thus gets the win (if mwhite06's guess was 70 and 6, then he would have won).

Low blow, but can’t argue :)

Raiders and low blows go together don’t they? Ben Davidson would approve.

48 balls / 1 walk

Winner, narrowly over Ollie, by virtue of nailing the walks (even though Ollie was one ball closer).

matthewmafa (45/1) > Ollie (46/2) > El Lay Dave (49/3).

I’ll post the next contest sometime tomorrow.

I should have insulted the Raiders more.
