sandoval was pissed off because
in his first 2 at bats the dodgers were pitching up and in. then he finally got hit or hit himself then he just got pissed and tried to act tough
He was giving a gentle reminder of his prowess against RHB. Over the long run, the one run was a small price to pay :)

more evidence that
he’s not a lefty specialist.
Confusing since the radio crew joined his AB at 0-2.

He’s a prime candidate (or Castro)…but wait until the comeback win :)

Ethier, Manny Blake to lead off the 7th.
Even if its Timmy, this is the Dodgers best chance to score a run in the next 3 innings.
dodgers are going to score in the 7th
the last time we faced tim he fell apart in the 7th plus we got the heart of our line up this time
I wish blake was hitting 8th
or at least 7th right now, I’m afraid every time i see him come up now that he will just ground into a dp after watching the first 2 for strikes.
I think we could go to a 1-man bench, so we can have a 16-man pitching staff. That way, if any pitcher throws a ball Torre can remove him then, before the sign of any trouble :)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 2:44 PM PDT up reply actions
That could work.
we could sign some Brooks Kieschnick type guys who can spot start in the OF too.
and trade for Ankiel…StL doesn’t need him anymore! :)

lincecum gets more respect at the plate
then juan castro
Ha! For some reason I read that as “foreplay” at first :)

Always look on the bright side of life.
- whistles -
belisarios pitches have so much movement
they cross the strike zone but land in russell glove out the strike zone
I'm going to guess that Belisario was throwing with a lower velocity because he was told that he's going for two innings.
How much lower
Gameday had him clocked at 95

Very unprofessional
Landon Donovan is about to corner kick while getting coke bottles thrown at him…
Mexico is starving right now for a world cup berth.
Yeah I support the team, but the fans were very disrespectful there
if the dodgers dont pitch sandoval up and in like they have been doing the whole game
they are going to look like B*tches….
you dont change your game plan of going up and in just cause the little baby was upset about it
Damn you Steiner
made it sound like it was headed for 30 rows up
he must have hit that off the end of the bat
cause i thought that was out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's really terrible
that the Giants have all of 2 runs and Lincecum’s lead looks as safe as if they had a 5 run lead.
nnope the dodgers are just
1 bloop and 1 blast away from winning this game
Lincecum is at 88 pitches through 7
or just over 12.5 per inning. He’ll have to get into some serious trouble before they take him out of this game.
that Blake K doesn't surprise me at all
I wish i had more faith in Blake, but I just don’t get any good vibes from him when I see him up. It didn’t help that, once again, he got down 0-2 right away and then struck out.
kemp is our only chance in the 8th to score a run
no faith in loney or castro against lincecum
Loney’s walk will make him the tying run.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions
walking loney is like walking a pitcher
pitchers cant beat you
Not sure of Hudson’s availability, but I would guess they don’t PH for Castro because nobody to play 2B (I’m aware of Loretta)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Because if he pitches the 10th, that means we at least tie it.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions
since when does
bengie molina have plate discipline
88 pitches.
Lincecum can go 120 pitches or so.
He’s pitching a complete game unless he’s getting in trouble.
and they don’t have Jeff Weaver to get out of that jam :)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions
88 - he's going all the way unless the Dodgers get to win.
We’re not going to steal this one on Brian Wilson unless the Dodgers get Lincecum in trouble first.
Tactics
two-out walk to guarantee Lincecum’s spot comes up in the bottom of the eight. Maybe Bochy’s replacement will blunder and hit for him.
That's exactly what they've gotta do
Also I would love to see a double by Loney to start the inning and then a single (or double…or triple or hr, lol) in a gap so Loney can score. That might be enough to drive Lincecum out of the game…maybe.
I've never been
I fear for my life. I might eat myself into a food coma.
by Michael White on Aug 12, 2009 3:10 PM PDT up reply actions
that's just unacceptable
I'm nobody's fool, least of all yours

The coolest thing about that AYCE section in San Diego
The vendor was tossing ice cream novelties into the crowd.
First strike on Kemp was high according to gameday
Can someone please direct Blue to Mapquest? He clearly need directions to the plate.
After the game someone should take a look and see
how many “strikes” were called when they should have been balls.
Pitch count anyone?
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
nah
i like seeing elite players do their thing. even if they’re on the giants.
I do too
It seems like I never get to actually see Lincecum pitch. Either we miss him in the series (which I won’t lose sleep over) or its a game like today where it is a day game.
by Michael White on Aug 12, 2009 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions
Are they allowing 5 or 6 teams into the playoffs from each league? :)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions
Ditto
I’d like to see someone throw him to the ground by his nasty, greasy hair. Actually, I want someone to shave his head while he is asleep one night. His hair bugs me to no end.
His pitching isn't what bothers me
He’s an elite pitcher (still glad we took Kershaw over him in 06) and he pitches well under pressure. Oh well, we’ve had to face that before.
His hair really makes me not like him, it’s just freaking annoying.
Deep down you really meant it.
Damn you Lincecum!
by Penos Cabell on Aug 12, 2009 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions
Giants need badly not to be swept. They will not pull him.
Besides he’s just over 100 and throwing a frigging two-hitter. Shit man, he’s just good.
that was a horrible call for strike 3
on loney… we got robbed on a couple of balls and strike calls today… lincecum is already a great pitcher and now he has a strike zone as big as jaimie moyers
I vote
the game recap contain no less than 6 Mr. Magoo references
Or Jim Backus. Or Thurston Howell III. Or Ginger. Or Mary Ann. :)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions
Nah, let him stay
It’ll be much sweeter to beat the Giants in the bottom of the ninth against Lincecum. Make them wonder if Lincecum is their guy.
has anyone noticed
giants are taking an incredible amount of pitches for the least disciplined team in the league
Shows how much faith the Giants have in Lincecum.
They’d rather sacrifice an out than put in a PH and try to pad the lead.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
On second thought...
Maybe that just shows how little faith they have in their pinch hitters.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Whether or not the effectiveness is apt, just about 100% of managers use the sacrifice to pad the lead.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 3:26 PM PDT up reply actions
i would love a home run
the only problem is loretta furcal and martin are coming up and they have a combined total of less then 10 and lincecum has only given up 6 homers all year….
i say we have no chance of a home run unless ethier comes up
Almost as unsavory as everyone complaining about balls & strikes :)
by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Wow we got gifted a call there at 1B.
Rally time!
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Umps ruled that Furcal made it to first on an infield single.
Close play, but he should have been out. He was ruled safe, and the Giants protested.

why would u take lincecum out the game?????????
if he gets out of the inning he can still get a win if the giants walkoff
thats what happens when your on the 3rd coach in 1 game
And this is why wins and losses are not an effective way to evaluate a pitcher

Blown calls are just part of the game. Get used to it Lincecum.

If Wilson comes back in for the 10th, guess who he’s facing first? :-)

90 MPH cutter
100 MPH fastball…. and the guy still sucks for some odd reason
the only bad thing is we wasted ALLL
of our relief pitchers!!!
Can billingsley go if we get to the 13th inning??
For the same reason I wasn't complaining about balls and strikes
I find it hard to complain about losing a game on such small calls—if you can’t win against a bang/bang play or a series of bad calls, it’s out of the complain-about-third-party realm.

In between Martin’s and Ethier’s at-bats:
You know this game is gonna go extra innings…I’ve known it for at least 4 innings now but was afraid to speak it out loud.

and abusive hilarity ensues…
They tend to ban easily over there. My ban got overturned by the Supreme Court three weeks ago.
vr, Xei
I was going to ask if you were still banned over there?
didn’t you get banned at the Laker blog too?

Just stepping in for a free hint
He was not banned. That is what is called a JOKE.

i wanna see broxton buzz sandoval off the plate
lets see what he’ll do when broxtons on the mound
Don’t you mean is the ball alright? :)
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
kemp should have had that
why throw sandoval a first pitch fastball WHEN YOU KNOW hes going to swing?
Steiner with the jinx
Sherrill “unhittable” against lefties
When was he throwing? If it was last half-inning, he was probably just preparing for a lead that didn’t come, then stopped when the inning was over.
