Even if the Giants win this game...

Their ace blew the lead with 2 outs in the 9th inning. That is a huge moral victory for us. Now apparently Loney got on, so lets go Kemp!

by Ivdown on Aug 12, 2009 3:56 PM PDT reply actions

Kemp

needs to get an extra base hit here, and he’s had 1 big hit in each game so far, let this at bat be that big hit today.

Is the game over?

I don’t have much faith in Mota, but the game’s not over yet.

by Nathan S. on Aug 12, 2009 4:10 PM PDT reply actions

I figured

The 0-22-1 stat would’ve already told you the outcome of the game. But that does suck.

by MaxDSterling on Aug 12, 2009 4:14 PM PDT reply actions

Friggin great job sending mota out there

Instead of ANYONE else. Mota is struggling right now, he needs to get fine-tuned like earlier in the season. Aweome.

by Ivdown on Aug 12, 2009 4:15 PM PDT reply actions

who else did we have?

by oshea2002 on Aug 12, 2009 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Broxton and Charlie H.

Why did Torre refuse to use Charlie H.? WHY BRING A PLAYER UP IF YOU REFUSE TO USE THEM? Torre has his players he loves to screw with like this, ughhh.

I realize Broxton was being saved to close out the game if need be, but Mota is in a big slump, and hasn’t shown any signs of getting out of it.

by Ivdown on Aug 12, 2009 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

without the stats on-hand...

isn’t Mota more effective when he’s brought in in the middle of an inning as opposed to starting one?

by ishXdavid on Aug 12, 2009 4:16 PM PDT reply actions

i cant believe it

2 sliders in a row 1 missed and then you throw fastball down the middle

i knew the game was over once ausmus was called upon to be the catcher…..

he doesnt know how to call a game in my opinion… russell martin is much better at it

by matthewmafa on Aug 12, 2009 4:16 PM PDT reply actions

And this is the catcher that many

want to catch Kershaw’s every game. I kind of doubt he was supposed to throw a fastball in that location.

by bhsportsguy on Aug 12, 2009 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Not seeing Broxton is making me Nervous. Why didn’t he pitch the 10th? I hope he’s not injured.

by Tripon on Aug 12, 2009 4:17 PM PDT reply actions

Because Torre will almost always save his closer for a lead on the road.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 12, 2009 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions

well broxton could have pitched 2 innings for the save

this is bullshit i cant believe torre used mota.. he gave away the game

by matthewmafa on Aug 12, 2009 4:19 PM PDT up reply actions

I was certainly prepared for something like that to happen though

we can only be disappointed we didnt get to Timmy earlier, but I love giving him the ND, all that work for nothing : )

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Aug 12, 2009 4:17 PM PDT reply actions

Well, that ending sucked. I was listening but couldn’t comment yet…just went back to catch up and it seemed the Mota walk garnered more ire than the HR :)

walks=death

there free passes for the other team

by shaqfor3 on Aug 12, 2009 4:19 PM PDT up reply actions

it was kinda expected

He hasn’t been great last 5 outings

by PHAT JULIO on Aug 12, 2009 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Im not saying to dump the guy

I’m saying Mota shouldn’t have been in there before Broxton or Haeger.

by Ivdown on Aug 12, 2009 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Putting in Haegar would have meant agreeing to an "Anybody But Mota" strategy

why would Joe put in Haeger, he was the long man. Mota has actually pitched for Joe this year.

by Michael White on Aug 12, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

This isn't a slump for Mota. he's regessing back to the pitcher he always was.

Its not as if his fastball is known for movement. He just threw a really straight fastball down the middle.

That’s not slumping, that’s just calling to get hit hard.

by Tripon on Aug 12, 2009 4:22 PM PDT up reply actions

You don't bring in your closer tied on the road

so it was either Mota or a guy Torre has never used. Mota is pathetic, but not sure how Joe screwed things up.

by oshea2002 on Aug 12, 2009 4:19 PM PDT reply actions

Ya I agree they won the battle of attrition they really did deserve it

they got to our scub

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Aug 12, 2009 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

if anything mota should not be used in the freaking extra innings

instead of using troncoso or belisario, you should have used mota and left one of them for the extra innings…..

BUT NOOOOOOOOOO torre thinks only veterans can withholld the PRessuressss of EXtra INNINGS!

by matthewmafa on Aug 12, 2009 4:23 PM PDT reply actions

i dunno you can argue using the better pitchers early

gave us a chance to win it

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Aug 12, 2009 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions

no

mota folds under pressure… like when he comes in with runners on base(pressure) When you are down by 2 or 1 there is not as much pressure as when its a tie game and 1 run looses the game

by matthewmafa on Aug 12, 2009 4:25 PM PDT up reply actions

i guess, but a 1 run game in San Francisco is always pressure packed in my mind

and I agree that you dont play assuming there will be extra innings, i say do what you can to win it, and we almost stole one form under the Giants’ noses

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Aug 12, 2009 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't you can predict in the 6th inning

That you are going into extra innings, you use your best during the first 9 if possible. Mota was saved to probably go at least 2 innings if needed before Broxton.

Blown Umpire Calls©: part of Major League baseball since 1869!

Having the Dodgers lose this game was almost worth hearing the collective panty know the Gints fans had gotten themselves into due to the poor umpiring. Funny shit…

Sweep would've been Sweet

but with the way were playing 2 out of 3 is very good.

We picked up a game on the Giants and lets hope the Rockies lose tonight, and we got 6.5 game lead with 47 games to go.

by Bison27 on Aug 12, 2009 4:26 PM PDT reply actions

Dbacks next

we better at least win 2 of 3 there no excuses

by shaqfor3 on Aug 12, 2009 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Were going to be saying that a ton

For the rest of the series. After we play the cards/cubs @ home next week, were going to be saying 2 out of 3 no excuses b/c our schedule is primarily made up with the dregs of the NL.

by Bison27 on Aug 12, 2009 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

I think we can sweep the Snakes

Haren is cold now and they don’t send Garland who pitched very well earlier this year…

by Johnxon on Aug 12, 2009 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Also with Manny this year we are 6-3 against the Giants. 7-5 overall, and both Tim L’s starts with into extra innings but games won by the Giants.

So even with their best gun they still have trouble beating us.

by Bison27 on Aug 12, 2009 4:27 PM PDT reply actions

Look, I get it

Some of you really don’t like Mota but to place the blame on the last guy pitching in an extra inning just ignores everyone else who played prior to him..

The Dodgers couldn’t muster up more than 2 runs, that’s a bigger reason they lost this game.

by bhsportsguy on Aug 12, 2009 4:28 PM PDT reply actions

We had our chance

In the top of the tenth. We didn’t catch in, the Giants did. That’s how it goes.

by Nathan S. on Aug 12, 2009 4:31 PM PDT up reply actions

yep probably

that castro blown DP was a real shot in the leg as well

by shaqfor3 on Aug 12, 2009 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll take 2 runs

Against Lincecum, but that’s me. I don’t think you can realistically expect five or six against the best pitcher in the NL.

I agree with the overall sentiment though. Every play could’ve swung the game in our favor.

by Nathan S. on Aug 12, 2009 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions

2 runs is pretty good against him

and dont forget our bullpen was pitching the entire game
instead of bills so we were ok up until the 10th
