Great Lakes scored 18 runs, with Sands and Silverio going deep.
Trayvon Robinson only 1 for 10 in his first three games at AA. The Lookouts scored 6 runs in top of the 9th to pull out the 8-6 victory with Eduardo Perez providing the key blow, with a three run home run.
Blake DeWitt slugged a triple and home run
Greg Miller has resurfaced in the Rookie league in Arizona and threw one inning of shutout ball. One time phenom Miller had been used to success as a Loogy in the Cal League but when they tried to extend him, he fell apart again. Here is another attempt to rebuild him from scratch.
When looking for that RH bat to replace Loretta next year we may only have to look as far as Hector Luna. With these numbers against LHP for the Isotopes.440/.494/.893/1.387 we might want to see what he could at the major league level. Jake Fox had these kind of numbers for the Cub's and once they gave him a shot he has shown he can hit major league pitching.

I don’t understand the disdain with Luna as a bench player. He can do everything Loretta can do and at this point in their career’s I expect he can hit better then Loretta.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen

Jim Clancy (Exhibition Stadium): Can I get a quick hit on two SSs please? Jackson in the Jays system and Dee Gordon in the Dodgers. Thank you. Too bad you didn’t chat every day.
Kevin Goldstein: Jackson just needs to start hitting, period. He’s frustrating, because he’s a plus defender with above-average speed and a good approach, but there’s SO much swing and miss in him that I’m pretty worried. Gordon is a much different player, in that he’s having the season he’s having, yet he’s still incredibly raw and there’s a lot of growth in him still. I do worry that Gordon is just so far away fundamentally, when it comes to defense, that he’ll end up in the outfield.

That would cut value for the Dodgers
Specifically. Would make him more of a trade chip.

Considering that it'd take Gordon 3-4 years to reach the majors anyway.
By that time, Kemp might have outgrown CF by that time.

Hopefully it doesn't take him that long
and hopefully Kemp doesn’t get Andruw Jones-esque at 29.

He's still at low-A
Unless Gordon shoots up the ladder next year, starting at high-A, moves on to Double-A by the All-star break in 2010, and then in Triple-A at the end of the year….

That's the idea
He’s raw, but not young. :o

Hongo (Greenville, SC): If Mark Reynolds can have a big league career, why can’t Kyle Russell, who strikes out a ton but is also leading the Midwest League in homers and playing a mean (as in good arm, range) right field?
Kevin Goldstein: Go look up what Mark Reynolds’s K rate was when he was in the Midwest League at roughly the same age. It’s WAY lower than Russell’s. Just like BB tend to go down, Ks tend to go up, so it’s Russell’s starting point that’s such a concern.

Our #1 prospect takes the hill tonight
Chris “Fast Track” Withrow will be looking to continue his recent hot streak.
Elite curves + 95 mph fastballs = domination.

Withrow is still a major work in progress, I think his ETA is 2nd half 2011.
by Rolex l on Aug 21, 2009 4:45 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
i think they'll do the same thing with him as they did with bills
bring him up on opening day 2011 and start him off in the bullpen and work him in as a starter
by matthewmafa on Aug 21, 2009 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's not how Bills started
He debuted as a starter on 6/15/06 and stayed with the team the rest of the year.
In 2007, they put him in the pen until Schmidt had surgery. He’s been a starter ever since.
by silverwidow on Aug 21, 2009 6:13 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah ok
i think they will skip the debut as a starter and stay with the team and just put him in the pen till the rotation spot opens
