No
Not with 4 outs left, and 3 of the next 4 batters being Martin (free out), pitchers spot (so maybe abreu, probly Lorretta), and Furcal (free out).
Man you guys are pessimistic.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Have you seen these guys lately
I’ve tried to be optomistic with Loney, Furcal, and Martin, but they are all shutting down, and at the wrong moment.
None of these guys have a Slugging Percentage over .400 (im not exactly sure but I know it’s not possible that they could be over that), and none of them have an OPS over .750, and by now I’m sure Loney’s is below .725.
Who can be optomistic with these 3 guys?
Back to the last thread
putting in Loretta for Loney accomplishes nothing. Either leave Loney in, or play Abreu at 3b and Blake at 1b.
hurrrrrrrrrrrr

Say, wasn't Tracy the manager during the Dodger 'roid heights
Lo Duca, Gagne, et al. HGH for the Rocks?
Maybe the smart move at the trade deadline was getting a hitter
not another reliever….
Someone here said it best, it was like an eskimo trading for snow.
Hitter to play where though?
Only moves we could really make are replacing Loney or Furcal
First base or right field would have worked
by that I mean a right fielder would have moved Ethier to first base.

That's what happens when you don't hit home runs
even if the Dodgers did happen to hit a home run today.
by Michael White on Aug 25, 2009 8:00 PM PDT up reply actions
But don't you remember
the solo homerun by Blake.
So take out that HR and the Dodgers have 1 run on 8 hits. Hip hip, hooorahhhh!
Its what happens when we give free outs.
Somebody needs to kick Furcal’s ass and tell him his shitty play isn’t helping anyone.
You’re pathetic.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
If Wolf loses to Fogg, you ought to be concerned
esp since Thursday’s matchup favors the Rockies more than any in the series

Yes I’d be concerned, but not about missing the playoffs.
There is a TON of baseball left in this season. I fully expect the Dodgers to have the ship righted well before then.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Making the playoffs
should not be a concern for any Dodger fan. That will happen barring a Mets-esque collapse. I want the division, and would rather see the Giants take the division than the Rockies.
Look at the shit that is happening now. These fuckers just won’t stop screwing us.
I hate the "sky is falling" mentality whenever a team stumbles
there’s a lot of baseball left, just ask the 2007 Mets
ooh bad example sorry

while the dodgers underachieve,
the rockies are playing out of their minds.
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
At least San Diego beat Atlanta
if SF loses we’ll still be 7 games ahead of a playoff spot
A wild card birth is unacceptable considering how well we started, it’s division repeat or bust in my opinion.
I really doubt you mean that.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Yes, believe us he does
He was on here telling us that Billingsley wasn’t a good pitcher a month ago.

if the dodgers did win the division and clinch 1st place
wouldn’t they have to play the wild card team? which i assume would be the rockies?
i’m not sure how the postseason works for baseball
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
If the wildcard is an NL west team
the division winner will play the Cards or Phillies (those being the first place teams).
As it stands right now, it would be Dodgers-Cards Phillies-Rockies.

Walk the bases full
for Loney? That would be a better plan IMO than walking Ethier to pitch to Manny.
So I’m guessing they just try to pitch to Ethier, and if they get him then walk Manny to get to Loney.
Come on Ethier, deep fly ball!
I'm sure beimel is going to pitch to dre, considering hes a lefty

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
What makes you say that?
A lot of hitters are having poor seasons…Stewart, Iannetta, Atkins…The Pyth W-L was within 1 game of their record for the last two months

Its not about movation. If Hudson isn't going to hold out his hand to catch a ball to make a out. Take him out of the game. If Loney can't throw, replace him.
This poor defense helped cost us the game.
As I said earlier
Blake to 1b, Abreu to 3rd.
scared to break his hand
it was obvious he was catious of his wrist
hahah we had a off day yesterday
a lot of rest for the bullpen… and our 2 best bullpener dont get any work in today ..
You can’t leave your best two guys on the bench. Makes absolutely no sense? Anyone smarter than I have any ideas?
Seriously, I have to ask the same question...
is there ANY logic at work here?
i love when the dodgers don't destroy mediocre/below average pitchers
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
fogg is not even considered mediocre or below average
he’s trash
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions
Cardinals - 2008 NFC Champions
He's a dragon slayer with a good ERA
okay, I can’t say that with a straight face. Fogg sucks

parra is a decent pitcher. he was just in a funk in the beginning of the season.

Two things J Mac isn't great at
Throwing strikes and keeping the ball out of the air. Of all the spots to bring him in. I’m not a huge J Mac fan, but you have to put players in position to succeed – not fail.
horrible pitch too
right down the middle.

I'm as big of a JMac fan as you'll find on this board
but I’m just floored by the decision to put him in tonight.

OMG
TROY TULOWITSKI vs JONATHON BROXTON
0 for 11 with 8 STRIKEOUTS>!!!!!!
0 for 11 WITH 8 STRIKEOUTS
CAN YOU CALL THAT SMAL SAMPLE SIZE OR DOMINATION!?!?!?!!?!?
I dare you to post after a win one of these days.

lol if you want to put a long man in...
it should have been WEAVER!!
Maybe there is something to the arguement that Torre is moving Broxton to the set up man's role
Or at least was spooked at the criticism. The 10th inning was a good time to use Broxton. Top of the order, Helton/Tulo/Hawpe. Bleh.
But use either Sherril or Broxton then...
no way he trust JMac more than either of those guys.

yeah - saving one is fine.
saving both is pure stupidity.
torre is not our guy

i've always thought torre was a horrible manager
his teams make him IMO
Dodgers - 2008 NL West Champions

I think Phil Jackson and Bill Belichek are terrible coaches too
Pete Carrroll hasn’t won a National Championship without a Heisman Trophy winner around.
Good players and Good Coaches go hand and hand. Sure once in a great while someone seems to come out of nowhere (but when you look back, you usually discover that they had pretty good talent).
Even those woe-begotten 1988 Dodgers had a great pitcher on a roll and a really underrated bullpen.
DBB's silver lining of the night
Well, at least we are now one game closer to the dawn of the Vicente Padilla Era…

god i hate rallying from 2 runs down in the 9th
AND LOSING IT!!
I was thinking things were going right
If we don't beat Josh Fogg tomorrow
then we’re truly in trouble.
Adrian Gonzalez hit his 34th HR tonight
:(
Would have looked great in Dodger blue
never close to happening
if only they were more serious in getting AGon
BUT theyd probabaly had to have given up more than loney
But if we balked at that rumored trade, then Ned is so dumb. We would never see that kind of value for Martin and Loney ever again.
I don’t believe the rumors but hey who knows
how serious were they about trading within their division though?

Without intentionally rubbing this in
why on earth did Torre not go to Broxton
Mike McCoy Status: BETTER BE A SEPT CALLUP

Ok, what about Sherrill
My point being that MacDonald had the bases loaded (I might’ve spelled that wrong) in the “game on the line” sitch

against tulo or whoever was at bat
the hitter was like 0 for 11 against brox w/ 8Ks!
why not bring him in then to get a strikeout and possibly escape
Bruce Bochy, of all people,
brought in his closer in the bottom of the ninth or later in a tie game on the road, last night, in Coors Field.
bhsportsguy, with all due respect, due up were #9 Ian Stewart, LH batter with 19 HR, #1 Carlos Gonzales, hot but wounded, LH batter, #2 PH for the pitcher, and if any one gets on, #3 Todd Helton. I go with Sherrill there, and if he gets a 1-2-3 inning, he starts the next inning to face Helton; the pitcher’s spot was due up 8th in the 11th inning for the Dodgers.
i wonder what torre was saving sherrill and brox for...
use them in the 9th/extras that gives ur hitters a reasonable chance to score a run by using them for 2-3 innings than if worst case if they dont score put in ur other relievers for the rest of the game…
A lot of managers, probably almost all,
want to save the closer on the road for the save situation. Of course, if one of the other relievers allows even one run, you don’t get to a save situation. But even if you believe that, there really isn’t an excuse not to use at least one of Sherrill or Broxton in extras, depending on the situation, with the other to close, if you’re fortunate enough to get a lead.
yes
he coulda used at least one of them
but not using any of them at the start of extras is inexcusable
and leaving Jmac in there w/bases loaded and 1 out
to pitch to tulo or whoever was hitting was pretty much waving the white flag
even that late brox or sherill coulda gotten a strikeout there and possibly escape the inning…
than if u get the lead use the other guy….
Apparently the Rockies didn't crush their spirit
as completely as it originally appeared.
Ignorance of the American League is a sign of good moral character.
Look out Dodgers...Purple objects in mirror are closer than they appear.
105 pitches, plus after he got the LHB Hawpe, a pair of RHB were due up next.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 25, 2009 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions
On the plus side, the offense didn't quit and forged a tie by scoing twice in the ninth
Including a big double by the much maligned Rafael Furcal to get the first two batters of the inning into scoring position.
Ned can forget about his option getting picked up
Nobody knows how this is going to end, but even his biggest apologists cannot feel secure that he’s coming back.
but the braves lost
to a crapalicious SD at home… that’s a plus

billingsley is starting on friday?
haegar pushed back one day??
is this true? does anyone know
playoffs
i know there are 40 or so games left.. but
i think the 4 teams going to the playoffs are locks.. dodgers colorado phillies and cardinals..
i also think st louis will end up with a better record then the phills and the winner of the NL west
so St louis would play the wild card team…. i would hate to play St louis so we better win this division…
also i think joe is doing this on purpose cause we were cruising through this year with any competition so now he wants us to play important games so we dont sleep walk in the playoffs and loose in the first round….
we might go to the playoffs as a tougher team like we did last year when we came back to win the divison from the D bAGS
