When In Doubt, Turn To The Wolf
Randy Wolf to the rescue. In each of his last 11 starts, Wolf has pitched at least six innings. Over those 11 starts, Wolf is 5-3 with a 2.95 ERA. The Dodgers are 17-10 in his starts this season.
Clint Barmes, who homered last night to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, is working on a rare season. His current batting line on the season is .248/.300/.467, in 480 plate appearances. Since integration, there have only been 24 batters to qualify for the batting title and put up a .450 slugging with an on-base percentage under .300 (including two other candidates besides Barmes this year). Barmes' current OBP on the season is .30042.
Like father, like son: Not only did Dee Gordon win the "Prospect of the Year" award in the Midwest League yesterday, but according to the Dodger pregame notes, his father Tom Gordon also won the same award while with the Appleton Foxes, a Royals' affiliate, in 1988.
On this date 70 years ago, the first televised game in baseball history took place between the Dodgers and the Reds at Ebbets Field. Red Barber called the game on W2XBS TV.

You're sending The Wolf?
Shit, that’s all you had to say.
So, whose head gets “accidentally” shot off? I nominate Barmes :)

These may be the funniest posts I’ve ever seen. I’ve been holding off, but had to register just to come and say that. Nice blog you folks have here.

Per Tracy Ringolsby, Juan Rincon activated from the DL for tonight’s game; Matt Murton optioned back to AAA
over under
1.5 Home runs allowed by Randy Wolf Tonight
i think itll be over.. 89 MPH fastballs in coors are not usually successful. the good thing is they will be solo homer tho
I’ll take the under 1.5 home runs allowed by the wolfster. His going to go 7 or 8 innings and give up one or two runs and the Dodgers will get the W

Josh Lindblom has a 2.89 ERA in Triple-A.
K/9: 7.4
H/9: 8.0
WHIP: 1.25
While his FIP is ‘only’ 3.86, he’s as ready as he’ll ever be for this year. Call him up.
he will get called up when the rosters expand in September

I just refuse to believe
the Dodgers will tell Lindblom to go home in September. His arm has been preserved. He’s got some big-time artillery. Very useful right now.
Dodgers do have an open spot on the AFL.
If he’s not pitching for the big league club, he’s probably heading to the AFL.
i mean
if lindblom is up this year…..
would his stats be better then motas??
theres no way…
Not interested in circular arguments
I will just say that Lindblom has more weapons than Mota’s straight fastball.
motas striaght fastball ??
60 innings 47 hits with a fastball he throws almost 70 % of the timee and it worth 7.1 runs….
fail
when comparing him to broxton
yes.. but other wise itss not terrible and lindblom in my opinion would be no better but you seem to disagree
with the kind off stuff Lindblom has I expect him to be significantly better than G Mota

Given his high odds
I think he also gets Thursday to make his point. Those of us going to the TBLA game will be able to collect in cookies, those not going will only wonder why they are not going when clinch the pennant on Saturday Night on a Bison bomb against Matt Herges.
if the Dogs don’t clinch before 10/3 I’ll be majorly disappointed

why is furcal still leading off!?
does torre think that double he hit was really a sign of things to come….
the best man to protect manny in this lineup besides kemp and ethier is Wolf tonight
Why do you ask the question everyday as though you are surprised, even though you know the answer?

im hoping that one day torre will read this
i dont want to not ask the one day he reads it and then he will not know how i feel

Torre obviously reads TBLA. I’m pretty sure it was my bitching about Kemp batting 8th that got him moved up in the lineup.

so hopefully my bitching about furcal
wil work too..

I knew Tony Batista would be on that list.
Barmes Ob% doesn’t shock me but the power certainly does.
I don't drink
but I may have to bust out the bubbly when Lindblom throws his first ML pitch. It will be a spectacle beyond words.
I agree with Eric that Lindblom is not coming up. Stults, Wade, and Leach are who I expect for the pitchers.
Room could be made for Lindblom by striking Leach or Wade
neither really needs to be up. Wade will probably get the call because he’s Torre’s guy. But Leach, not so much. Sherril can’t even manage to get into the game, so why bring up Leach :)
by Michael White on Aug 26, 2009 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions
We aren't talking who should be up
but who will be up. Torre has proven he goes with those he knows. I’ll take any bets the only players we see in Sept are players he’s used before when it comes to the pitching staff.
I keep falling back on JMac from last year. Torre had no exposure to McDonald before rosters expanded last year, and he was not only used by Torre in the last month, but made the post-season roster and contributed in the playoffs.
by Michael White on Aug 26, 2009 3:43 PM PDT up reply actions
And Proctor I believe
though I can’t recall if Proctor was semi-injured at the time…
by Michael White on Aug 26, 2009 3:44 PM PDT up reply actions
yeah
something like he couldnt warm up more then once….
Good Point
I guess I should back off my stand. It really depends on what the scouts are telling Ned and if they think Lindblom can help the team or not.
I think Lindblom is coming up. One mlb scout said back in April that he would be pitching in June, whatever that means. Torre told him if he pitched well, he would pitch in the big leagues this year. Whatever that means.
Because of service time requirements to reach arbitration and super two status.
Teams usually hold back calling up players until June.
I understand
The point about the scout saying he would be pitching in June meant that Lindblom has pretty good stuff. Not saying that they should have brought him in June, I’m just saying maybe he should be on the 40-man roster.
its not like joe would use him
thats why they might keep him down
Stults is a definite call up. Seeing as how Padilla is in the starting rotation as of tomorrow
Elbert and Stults will be backing up Haegermeister and Padilla.

I hate to throw out guarantees
but I guarantee Lindblom will be here next week. He’s just too valuable. There’s really no other way to put it.

He may or may not be drunk
But you’d be a fool to think this guy is “random”. He’s a big part of your favorite baseball team’s future, whether you like it or not.
stop overrating a reliever
if he becomes a starter.. then ok.. but a relievers are everywhere
now you are underrating mota
after his mechanical error was fixed he has been lights out…
yes he looses some games and gives up some runs but name a reliever who doesnt
That doesn't help us to
suspend some of our best posters.
How about having to buy two tickets to the TBLA game if Lindblom is not on the Roster after the AAA playoffs?
I think if Silverwidow loses he should attend the TBLA outing wearing an Eric Milton jersey
by Michael White on Aug 26, 2009 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't think either side will blink
Because the bottom line is nobody on this board REALLY knows the truth. That’s why I’m hesitant to agree to anything.
Thanks to whomever turned my post green, though. :)
Kemp’s jersey? Shouldn’t it be Lindblom’s jersey?
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to order and sell a Lindblom jersey by the time he's called up
You can custom order just about anything, except probably “Fuckface 69” or something

Jon Weisman reporting on Dodger Thoughts that Sherrill was out with a slight injury yesterday
George Sherrill did not pitch for the Dodgers in Tuesday’s extra-inning loss to Colorado because of he “felt a little catch in his side,” Dodger manager Joe Torre told reporters before today’s game. Sherrill had an MRI that was negative, with Stan Conte adding that Sherrill “threw hard today and is ok. We ruled out the oblique. He had no idea when he hurt it.”
Those announcers were getting on my nerves when Sherrill came in to pitch. After every pitch that missed the strike zone they’d say, “Sherrill was a good closer with the Orioles, but he’s never had to closer meaningful games.”

“An ulcer after the stress in his new closing job,” reports Buster Olney. :)

Stats
Tripon…where do you get your minor league player stats…such as the FIP? I found a few websites, but I can’t find Lindblom’s FIP of 3.86
thanks

How about someone tell Manny to try cutting his hair a little? Manny’s 2008 hair was much shorter than Manny’s 2009 hair.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Speaking of hair
When Chad Gaudin was obtained by the Yankees, he had to shave off that ridiculous beard of his.

That beard might be more appropriate on Merkin Valdez.
My favorite side-effect of the NYY grooming/hair policy
was the Jason Giambi cop ‘stache. watching that guy round third at full speed was like an outake from The Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” video, only funnier.

Broxton and Sherrill sit out a tie game; extra innings but both pitch in a 6-2 game????
Hard to follow Torre’s thinking.
by kimo from kauai on Aug 26, 2009 8:37 PM PDT reply actions
Sherrill was sore last night, and unavailable. Torre was saving Broxton for a save situation on the road, as he has done all season. Not saying I agree with that last part, but overall not as egregious an error as first thought.
