Just turned on the game… what a shame to see us down 0-4 to Homer Bailey.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Glad to have you hear for the Padma-induced comeback.

Loney
your gonna fail. . .why dont you atleast try to get a walk
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 28, 2009 6:15 PM PDT reply actions
Bailey shouldn’t be breezing through the third time through the order. Maybe we can get him the fourth time through.
vr, Xei
I’d like to see his stats on the 5th time though :)

I hope you have good food lined up for your BBQ…take the edge off.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Ya, I will just try to avoid Dodger talk altogether
actually, unless I’m here, that’s pretty much my motto all the time
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:21 PM PDT up reply actions
why the fuck is juan swinging on a 3-1 pitch
his job is to get on base… yo have no power to hit it out so wTF??
This is sad
and hard to watch.
Im guessing Arroyo is going to destroy us in his start with the way we’ve hit the great Homer Bailey.
Batman is kicking our asses.
But Bailey is probably a better pitcher than Arroyo
his numbers aren’t better, but his stuff definitely is.

It's baseball. These kind of games happen all the times to all teams. Schmidt and Padilla have 3 wins this year....
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:24 PM PDT up reply actions
Look
I’m not saying all hope is lost because of the best outing of the year by a pitcher who’s put up shit numbers.
I’m just saying, on average, this game shouldn’t have happened to the Dodgers. The offense needs to step it up against lesser pitchers.
No, I was saying on average, we have beaten up on lesser pitchers.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh ok
Yeah which is why they shouldn’t be shut out with 2 outs in the 8th inning right now.
Honestly, there shouldn’t be much to complain about with the situation the Dodgers have been in this year, 4 games up with a month to play and the best record in the NL. I know this, but what is life without bitching about things? Nice? Probly, yeah.
It does happen though. That’s baseball. Jason Schmidt getting a win in 2009 shouldn’t happen either. But it did. Twice.
Its a long season. These games happen.

Atleast Pierre worked the count
Loney and O dog swinging on 1st pitches
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 28, 2009 6:20 PM PDT reply actions
loney is a joke
o dog is a joke…
the only real hitters we have on our team is kemp ethier and manny
all of hudsons average is
frlom the first month or 2 of the season… hes been bad since….
plus thats only cause he hit in front of manny in the first month…. otherwise hes just like loney martin and furcal
I'm incredibly willing to bet
that Hudson has a higher OBP since the start of July than at least 2 of the 3 of Loney, Furcal, and Martin.
He doesn't have a higher OBP than Martin. I'm sure of that without looking it up
and you’ll probably be close on Loney
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh, I meant OPS
Sorry. But Martin’s OBP is very misleading, because it’s above average and he still sucks incredibly bad on offense this year.
But if you're going to be good at only one thing (of the triple slash)
OBP is the most important ya know…
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:30 PM PDT up reply actions
Ya, I'm not arguing Martin has met my expectations for him this year
he hasn’t…..
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions
I do really like his OBP this season
and the defense is better than I expected, but obviously he’s having a terrible season. I think 2010 will be much different for Martin.
OPS since July 1:
Hudson .757
Loney .745
Martin .712
Furcal .709
Entering tonight
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:30 PM PDT up reply actions
well i know he has a higher OBP then furcal
martin he doesnt and loney it might be close….
ive always wanted hudson leading off and furcal in the 8th spot anyways… nobody can we worse then furcal… its just sad
OBP since July 1:
Loney .358
Martin .347
Hudson .346
Furcal .332
Entering tonight
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:29 PM PDT up reply actions
I meant to say OPS
I figured Martin and Loney would have higher OBPs, but I doubt more than one of Furcal, Martin, or Loney have a higher slugging percentage in that time.
I smell an ODog is not our guy post coming
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions
Surprised no one has broken the "Rafael Furcal is not our guy" post
I mean, August has not done him good.
Come on now, O-Dog isn’t that bad.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
he reached and grounded out on a first pitch fastballl
if you have to reach for a pitch.. you dont swing unless you have 2 strikes…. that was s ad at bat and hes lucky he didnt GIDP
True, he hasn’t been producing fantastically as of late, but 2nd basemen (outside of guys like Utley) like Hudson shouldn’t be held to the same standard as 1st basemen like Loney.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
look at the aL EASt 2nd basemen
all 5 of them could be our 5 hitter behind manny and be way better then casey blake
Bills strikeout rate should be a huge concern
hes not missing any bats
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 28, 2009 6:24 PM PDT reply actions
hes always like that on the road...
he strikes out a lot at home and not as much on the road..
why does furcal try to bunt to get on base?
yea it worked but this is exactly why hes been doing so bad of late
Entering tonight, he’s 8 for 22 when bunting for a base hit. I’ll take that .364 average, which is higher than his OBP
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm shocked its that high.
Again, excellent reminder why you should trust stats not your own observations.
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Steve Lyons' analysis
isn’t making this game any more enjoyable
I'm nobody's fool, least of all yours
the guy is all fastball
no good offspeed pitches…. i wouldnt be excited at all… anyone can shut down this horrid dodger offense
You can develop offspeed pitches. You can't develop fastballs.
He’s still young enough to make it all work
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions
i dont like him as much as you do
i dont think hes good at all…
Agree to disagree then :)
but remember, I was saying I liked him when he was busy getting his ass kicked by the Dodgers the last go around. So, I’m not as shocked as many to see him throw a gem like this.
by Michael White on Aug 28, 2009 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions
alright
i didnt like him then and i see dont noww… you need more then a fastball to be a good starter in the mlb
1st walk of the GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAHOOOOOOOOO
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 28, 2009 6:33 PM PDT reply actions
Wow
3 of those balls in Ethier’s at bat just now were in the same spot as the one he swung and missed on his last at bat with a 3-2 count.
would have preferred that in his last at bat
but we’ll take it
I'm nobody's fool, least of all yours
2 on no outs, 2 on 1 out
0 runs.
Don’t you just love this offense?
Next inning we’ve got Loney, Martin, Hudson for the 3rd time. I’m going to go puke.
I hate to say this, but go Giants.
Kemp has been really impatient lately
Here’s a breakdown of walks and strikeout per month
Month PA’s BB’s SO’s
April 92 10 21
May 124 11 29
June 103 7 22
July 104 12 12
Augsut 100 4 28
And that was coming into today’s game.
he doesnt need to walk
when hes crushing the ball… you fail to mention how his slugging percentage is over .600 in the month
Homer Bailey
I have been shaking my head at all the disparaging comments about Bailey here. He was easily the best high school pitcher in America going into the 2004 draft. The Clayton Kershaw of his year and a top 10 draft pick. If he had still been available at #17, Logan White would surely have drafted him instead of Elbert. He is 23 and had great numbers in Triple A this year. Has he had a smooth transition to the majors? No, but that is typical, especially if a young pitcher has to do it in a band box like the Reds’ home park. Bailey is going to be a great MLB pitcher, just not right away.

orroya doesnt throw 95
we have a better chance against him
Well, we came back from 2 down against the Rockies, which is the equivalent of coming back from 4 down against the Reds. :)
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
chad cordero
is not nearly as bad as the pitcher from the other night against the rockies
chad cordero is probably worse
Francisco is probably who your referring to

i guess it doesn’t matter, we just need to take care of business

It may be time
to start a “Go Giants” thread. ;)
Isn’t it better for our playoff chances if the Rockies win and Giants lose?
Not that I want to root for them.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Just got back.
Why the hell did Torre throw Chad Billingsley out for the 6th?
Seriously, it was obvious by the 2nd inning he didn’t have it today.
He’s probably saved for tomorrow, in the “you never know” department of knucklers.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 6:57 PM PDT up reply actions
We can rally off whomever has to close a close game tomorrow then :)
Actually, I hope we don’t get to that situation.

I thought it would be for Cordero since he came in after the Loney HR?

he came in with one out. Tying run wasn’t on deck
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 7:10 PM PDT up reply actions
YES!
I know it wasn’t exactly a close pitch, but kudos to Kemp for not swining, lol.
Ok Ethier, can you do it again? We need you to come up huge again for us.
drop third strike
but wild pitch

Ethier Strikes out
but pitch hits him and gets away, Lorreta scores
What just happened?!
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
Ethier swung and missed, ball got away (apparently hit his foot), he got to first, run scored.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 7:12 PM PDT up reply actions
Ethier swung on strike 3.
The ball hit his foot, but the catcher couldn’t hold on to it, it got far enough that a run scored, and Ethier made it to first.
right down the middle
strikeout or pop up
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 28, 2009 7:15 PM PDT reply actions
Screw Manny
All he does is swing at crappy pitches and look at strikes.
I would rather have Furcal or Loney up more than Manny right now. Jesus christ.
i don't agree
but i’m very frustrated with this as well

I was going to respond, but you summed it up nicely.
by Eric Stephen on Aug 28, 2009 7:17 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't know how many times
I’ve seen Manny watch 2 strikes right down the middle in an bat.
I don’t know what would possess anyone to watch that ball go right down the middle of the plate. I really don’t.
8 left on base by manny today
oh well, on to tomorrow
Haven't seen much of that lately
Besides the game tying hit against the Rockies the other night, and even that looked like he didn’t mean to do what he did.
I agree
But the threat has been just that the last couple months, a threat.
When Etheir came up in the 9th I thought to myself “Please Ethier, get a big hit. I would rather not rely on Manny to do it.”
o dog shoulda reached on that infield hit
how he didnt still amazes me
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 28, 2009 7:18 PM PDT reply actions
dont fforget manny was the one who tied up the game vs the rockies in the last at bat
hes not superman anymore…..
hate to be monday morning qb, but I woulda put pierre in, He has been money this year.
Im sick of getting built up for manny and him doing jack.
In Kobe we trust!
You know who I would have put in? Joe Torre. He was an MVP once.
We’re in Cincy, they had one of he last players managers in Pete Rose, in fact, Joe Torre used to player-manage as well.
Why, I’m sure Joe was just comping at the bit to bet on this game, and deliever the game winning hit to parley the triple action he had on the Rockies-Giants game, the White Sox-Yankees, and the Reds-Dodgers game.
Anyway, I want fucking Manny in that situation half the time. The other half I want Kemp, and the other half I want Ethier in that situation. We got it, he failed, and maybe next time he won’t. Or he will. But fuck, I want him in that situation if it happens again.
