if the season ended today.....
Randy Wolf Type A
Orlando Hudson Type A
Manny Ramirez Type A
Vicente Padilla Type B (LOLzzz)
Will Ohman Type B
Mota Type B
We could potentially gain a decent amount of picks....
Personally, I think we will offer Wolf, Hudson and Manny arb. The rest....probably not. Padilla is not worth the risk with the money....I want more draft picks!

the only one I'd DEFINITELY keep is Hudson
I know Wolf’s been great, and most of LA would riot (again) if they let Manny go. (though I think it’s his choice, isn’t it?). But one terrific year doesn’t make up for years of underachieving and injuries with Wolfie. The Dodgers should make a lukewarm shot at getting Wolf back, but if he demands anything more than 3 years, they should thank him for his service, and wish him the best. I’d rather have the two draft picks.
As for Manny, I’m 99% sure that he will be back, and that’s about 1% less than everyone else seems to be. I am by no means anti-Manny, and will always be grateful for him bringing LA baseball back to life in 2008. But this year, on and off the field, he’s been mixed (and I am SO sick of hearing about “bobbleslam”, great as it was at the time- ANOTHER bobblehead day, Dodger organization? really???), and I’d rather see Pierre out there. He’s younger, has a better attitude, and his obvious flaws are made up with his obvious attributes. And spare me the talk of how the Dodgers had one less run with him in the lineup instead of Manny- that falls on Ethier’s shoulders (and possibly Furcal’s).
My only concern with Hudson is the same as everyone else’s- health. But regardless, this guy has been a plus all around. Though I may be naive, he is one guy I believe would not take it down a notch after getting that big contract, so I say, go for it.
Padilla, Mota, nice knowing you. Ohman’s hilarious, but he’s also a bad major league pitcher. Would they really give type B picks for ANY of these guys? I’d like to believe it, but I’m not sure I do.

Intresting
1) Manny Ramirez has a player option and I don’t see him opting out of the contract because we all know Manny is about the $$$$ and he won’t JD Drew us unless there is a team that is going to pay him 20+ Million or more.
2) Padilla- Let’s see how he finishes up, if he does well and doesn’t command much money, then I say keep him. If he stinks down the strecth, let him walk.
3) Wolf- I like Wolf, let him stay but it depends on the amount. If he is paid the average of players at his position, sign him!
4) Hudson- tough one, I say keep him.
The rest can go…..then the Dodgers need to worry about signing Loney, Kemp, Martin and Bills long term….and Broxton….

don't forget Ethier! :)
I like all those guys, but I’d lock up Ethier before all the others besides Kemp…

Kershaw's not part of the mix right now
Good/almost great as he is, he needs another 2 or 3 years before the Dodgers ought to commit to anything with him. I hope for the best, of course, but there’s always a chance he’ll get hurt very early on, and never be the same. (Mark Prior, etc.)

look at the contracts for
longoria and braun…. commit early and you might hit the jackpot like the brewers and rays did

Uhm ...
but if you’ve got the guy for however many cost controlled years … what’s the incentive to pay big bucks before you have to?
by Seanny Rotten on Aug 29, 2009 8:05 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Because you buy out FA years and arbitration
In exchange for stability now

Yes, but you offer Wolf arbitration first, right?

Seriously!?
Manny’s VORP (30.6) is almost twice what JP’s is (15.9).
I’m sticking with Manny, thanks.

We can't offer Manny arb
It’s in his contract.

Is there any word on whether or not Ned will try to lock all these guys up this summer?
I have to think that if Logan White was GM he would have already done so. I think we can get Billingsley at a bargain with his late season struggle. It would have been sweet to have already locked kemp up. I would love to see the young core and loretta under team control for at least another few years
