Dodgers Return Home To Face Brewers
Clayton Kershaw looks to continue his amazing run of great pitching for the Dodgers tonight against the Brewers. On the season, Kershaw has improved to a 2.76 ERA, 3.28 FIP, and 4.23 x-FIP. If he can pitch anything like he did his last time out, the Brewers will be in trouble tonight.
Since May 1, Kershaw has given up 21 runs in 17 starts, and is 8-3 with an MLB-best 1.81 ERA over that span. At home this season, Kershaw has given up 13 runs in 11 starts, and has a 1.75 ERA.
Manny Ramirez isn't the only Manny struggling right now. Manny Parra, tonight's starting pitcher for Milwaukee, has allowed 43 runs (42 earned) in his last 45.1 innings, and has a 6.50 ERA on the season. He has been a bit unlucky, as his FIP (4.59) and x-FIP (4.77) are much lower than his ERA. On the season, opposing batters are hitting .301/.390/.466 against Parra.
Doug Mientkiewicz worked out for the Dodgers' training staff at Dodger Stadium today, but it didn't go well. Per Mientkiewicz's Tweet:
Nope. I'm not ready yet. I felt a pop. It's better than it was 2 weeks ago but no there needless to say I'm crushed thanks for all ursupport
With an RBI groundout against the Padres on Sunday, Brewers' first baseman Prince Fielder took over the MLB lead with 93 runs batted in.
Corey Hart, who had an emergency appendectomy in San Diego last night, will miss a month for the Brewers, per the Pierce County Herald. Bill Hall has been recalled from AAA Nashville to take Hart's place on the roster.
The Dodgers took two of three in Milwaukee just before the All-Star break:
July 10: Dodgers 12, Brewers 8 (10 innings)
July 11: Brewers 6, Dodgers 3
July 12: Dodgers 7, Brewers 4
Probable Pitchers:
Tuesday, 7:10pm: Hiroki Kuroda (3-5, 3.54 FIP) vs. Yovani Gallardo (10-7, 3.85 FIP)
Wednesday, 7:10pm: Jason Schmidt (2-1, 5.33 FIP) vs. Braden Looper (9-5, 5.79 FIP)

Brewers lineup - Hall in RF
per Adam McCalvy:
Lopez 2B
McGehee 3B
Braun LF
Fielder 1B
Cameron CF
Hardy SS
Hall RF
Rivera C
Parra P
Would you bench Hardy for him?
They probably want Hardy to reestablish some type of trade value and he can’t do that on the bench.
Honestly, with the standards Kershaw set, I will be upset if he goes seven innings and gives up 3 runs but gets a win.
I won't
I’m sure you were kidding but I’m just hoping that if Kershaw starts struggling he doesn’t get the Chad Billingsley treatment.

Ramirez. LF
Blake. 3B
Loney. 1B

Ya, I like this too
I like the defense of Ausmus backing up Kershaw— makes me feel better when there is a runner on third and Ausmus calls a hard breaking ball.

Who would you use in the 9th inning
if Fielder is due to lead off with a one run lead, Broxton, Kuo, or Sherrill? How cool is it to even be able to ask the question? Can’t believe how strong Kuo has looked.
Torre is old school
He’d probably use Broxton. I’d give Sherrill a shot. Kuo is still a level behind, so don’t expect to see him in the 9th.
Updated lineup
Kemp & Loney flip-flopped:
Furcal. SS
Ethier. RF
Ramirez. LF
Blake. 3B
Kemp. CF
Loney. 1B
Hudson. 2B
Ausmus. C
Kershaw. LHP
I'd like to say I have an incredible record when Kershaw is pitching
but hey, doesn’t everyone this year?
Dodgers are 7-4 at home in Kershaw starts this year (I thought it was better too), and they were also 7-4 last year. But, the Dodgers started 2-4 at home last year, so the Dodgers have won 12 of his last 16 home starts.
Kershaw’s career home starts
0 runs given up – six times
1 run – four times
2 runs – five times
3 runs – six times
4 runs – one time
That will get it done.
Photos
Eric, does SB Nation provide you with a bucket of photos from the AP that you are allowed to use? I see DT seems to have some of the same photos, perhaps LA Times does the same too?

We HAVE a healthy Mientkiewicz, and a much younger one...
…his name is Blake DeWitt.
I have to say it again- that shoulder injury was soooooooo stupid. I know everyone talks about what a great guy and what a “hard-nosed” player that Mientkiewicz is, but I was listening to an interview with him a few months ago, and he seemed almost PROUD of the injury. (“That’s the way I was taught to play the game.”) Correct me if I’m wrong, but there wasn’t even a throw to second on the play, was there?! For all the talk of guys not hustling, this goes to the other extreme- WAY to the other extreme!
