Doug Mientkiewicz

Someone’s gotta be added to the 40-Man today. Who do you think it would be if Doug Mientkiewicz is not ready to come back yet?

by joshburke2 on Aug 3, 2009 2:15 PM PDT reply actions

They don’t have to add anyone to the 40-man just yet. The 40 is only the upper limit.

But yes, I suspect some time this week Mientkiewicz will be activated, taking that 40th spot on the 40-man (with either J-Mac or Elbert returning to AAA for the 25-man spot).

Rotoworld Top 250

Lincecum is #1, Kershaw is #80

This is based on how they will perform until the end of the season.

STUPID.

Since I am feeling argumentative today...

Lincecum x-FIP: 2.66
Kershaw x-FIP: 4.22

Like every Dodger fan, I am really happy with the success that Kershaw has had these past few months. But it’s pretty easy to see that alot of the success is luck based, no? Kershaw has gotten some great defensive plays when he’s needed it (the 1,2,3 double play against Anaheim comes to mind) and these things tend to balance out. From a roto standpoint, a differential of ERA (at 2.76) and the x-FIP is enormous, and frankly the smart play (from a fantasy standpoint) would be to sell high on Clayton, unless you are in a keeper league.

Lincecum is awesome

that’s just a fact. I’d take him over anyone in baseball to win a game. Kershaw is just a kid, doesn’t have real command. He’ll get mashed a few times.

Kershaw's just a kid as opposed to

wily old man Lincecum? ;-)

No it makes sense to rank Lincecum that high, and ahead of Kershaw, but the discrepancy even for fantasy baseball seems kinda off.

by underdog on Aug 3, 2009 4:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Really?

I don’t have the other 78 names between the two pitchers, but this seems to be classic fantasy advice. Sell high on Clayton. Unless you actually think his home run rate won’t normalize and his BABIP will stay at .252.

In the real world, Clayton has accomplished everything you could have hoped for this year. He is a bona fide starting pitcher in MLB at the age of 21. What he’s done is awesome; and I’m psyched for the future behind Chad and Clayton.

But yes, Lincecum is a man. He is a nightmare to face and the fact that he is only 25 is frightening.

by Michael White on Aug 3, 2009 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions

That makes some sense from

a fantasy perspective, true. I was more just making fun of the idea that Kershaw’s youth is a detriment vs Lincecum’s grizzled old age of 25 ;-) But TL is clearly the top choice in the league right now, fantasy or otherwise. Kershaw may regress a bit (hopefully not tonight) but I’m still not convinced, based on his incredible BAA, that he’s going to regress enough to explain the discrepancy. But we’ll see, just mho, your mileage may vary, etc.
