Abreu continues assault - Dodger Prospect Top Performances and Minor League Box Scores - Aug 3rd, 2009
Tony Abreu with three more hits including a home run and double. Has now hit in 25 of his 27 games including nine multi hit games and 20 extra base hits. Interesting side note. According to the box score Abreu played 3rd base with Hector Luna fresh off the DL playing 2nd base. Can Luna continue his assault on the PCL leaderboard now that's he back?
Silverwidow has reported that Justin Miller was promoted to the California League to relace the recently promoted Chris Withrow.
Only a few weeks left to the minor league season.

For all the talk about Eyechart coming back.
We should promote Aberu before him.

Looks like Chris Withrow can catch up a bit to the other pitching prospects phenoms!

Now an injury to Madison Bumgarner, and we’re all set.
Thanks for the reminder…I’ll put up a link to the audio.

So another 3rd baseman
with weak fielding scouting reports turns into an above average defender.
Per Rotowire:
Andy LaRoche (3B) PIT 8/4/2009
LaRoche has just eight RBI in his last 139 at-bats since June 17. LaRoche has shown warning track power that still might develop into home run distances, but for now he’s a weak hitting corner infielder who holds a batting line of .262/.334/.379. On the positive side, his defense has proven Gold Glove caliber.
Will be interesting if Josh Bell also develops into an above average defender after many questioned his ability to play the hot corner.
seriously i hate it when scouts act like they know al about a scout
and they have never seen him even play before
I try to only quote scouts who I know have seen the player but your right
in that some opinions may be formed from simply hearing other scouts talk about a player.
In the AFL when Kemp was ignored plenty of scouts saw him playing CF and said he couldn’t do it at the major league level. Funny part about that AFL season, Brandon Wood, Lasting Milledge, and Alex Gordon were the talk of the town but the three players that no one thought could have big time major league career in their future were James Shields, Andre Ethier, and Matt Kemp. They all played on the same team (Oakland, LA, Tampa). In retro that was a heck of an AFL team when you consider that Loney and Kemp were also playing. That was when I was very impressed with Tony Abreu as a SS.
Bell has the tools
The question is whether he can put it together. Never going to be above average, but has a chance to be adequate.
Highly doubt LaRoche’s defense is Gold Glove caliber or anywhere close. :o

Should have added to the writeup
but Jeremy Wise’s home run was a three run walk off shot giving the Raptors the 7 – 6 victory. Someone mentioned how he crushes LHP and struggles against RHP. Way to small sample size but while he does crush LHP he also takes a good amount of walks against RHP ala Russell Martin to give him a .395 OBP. He’s also only 23 not the 24 I reported in yesterday’s writeup.
now we need to develop a left handed batting catcher to platoon
with Wise in the future
Jarrod Parker offically shut down for the year.
