Abreu called up - Dodger Prospect Top Performances and Minor League Box Scores - Aug 6th, 2009

Dylan Hernandez reports that Tony Abreu will be called up today.

Infielder Tony Abreu is expected to be called up today from triple-A Albuquerque and right-hander Ronald Belisario threw a scoreless inning for Class-A Inland Empire in what Manager Joe Torre said would probably be the last game of his minor league rehabilitation assignment.

I thought something was up when I noticed Tony was not in the box scores last night. He'll be a welcome addition to this team as they could use someone with his versatility.

23 year old catcher Matthew Wallach with a big day going 4/5 for the Loons in A ball. Wallach has finally started to show some signs of life with the bat since July came around. In a tough hitting environment an .800 OPS is good work if he can keep it up.

Eovaldi & Martin did their tandem act again, both throwing a solid three innings of work. Why they are both being limited to three innings and pitching in tandem is a question for DeJon Watson.

Chin Lung Hu and Blake DeWitt both collected three hits in a game that Eric Stults left after three innings. Is Eric on his way to the Dodgers to make the start Monday Night? Chin Lung Hu has replaced Abreu & Gordan as the hottest hitting infielder in the organization with four multi hit games out of six in August, good for a .500 avg.

I wonder if the limit for Eovaldi and Martin is based on pitches or innings…and is it temporary, in that they might be stretched out over their last few starts? Hopefully Watson can make this elementary for us.

Ditto...

I can understand that they’re both real young and Watson doesn’t want to burn an 19 or 20 year old arm, but give these guys their proper starts!
