Dodgers / Braves Finale Game Chat
Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers, Aug 9, 2009 1:10 PM PDT
Some notes leading into the seventh Dodgers/Braves matchup in the last ten days:
- Leadoff man Rafael Furcal has reached base in 19 straight games, as well as 32 of his last 33 games, dating back to July 1, and is hitting .317/.375/.455 with 27 runs scored over that span.
- Casey Blake, back in the lineup today after a night off Saturday, is working on a nine-game hitting streak, and is hitting .461/.500/.718 over that time.
- Orlando Hudson has an eight-game hitting streak of his own, hitting .370/.452/.444 over his last eight games.
- Braves starter Javier Vazquez hasn't faced the Dodgers since September 20, 2005, when he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- Since the beginning of the 2006 season, Braves' catcher Brian McCann leads all MLB catchers in slugging percentage (.509), home runs (77), doubles (141), extra-base hits (220), and RBI (327), while ranking fourth in batting average (.297).
- Since the All-Star break, only three relievers in baseball have appeared in at least ten games without allowing an earned run, and two of them are Braves, Peter Moylan and Mike Gonzalez (the Padres' Mike Adams is the other reliever).

McLouth is out today
Tweaked his hammy running Martin’s fly ball last night. Church is in CF and hitting leadoff. Just and FYI.

Tony Abreu narrowly beats the seasonal record for shortest stint with the big club, with 2 days. A.J. Ellis was active for 3 games at Wrigley Field in May.
But at least Tony got to play in his stint

If Atlanta wants to be aggresive
it works out well for pitchers like Stuts.

Great pre-game notes, Eric
Especially like the clubhouse notes about the crossword and giant Giants packets.

By the way, I'm going to be at the game tomorrow night
And I want your opinion as to what I should wear.
A) Piazza Jersey
B) Letterman-style Dodger Jacket
C) Dodger T-Shirt
D) 756* T-Shirt
E) Dodger Batting Helmet
G) Regular everyday normal guy clothes
or any combination of those.
I’m in the mood to really show spirit, so what do you all think?
itll be another decent outing wasted
by the offense and Vasquez’s beastlyness
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 9, 2009 1:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Or the game will go into extra innings until the bullpen blows it.

get 2 runs off vasquez?
ill be happy if we touch 2nd base

It could be worse Jason Schmidt could be pitching again.

Here comes the Deluge.

You disagree with the play?
If the Dodgers are having a hard time scoring runs, I’m not sure that’s a horrible gamble at this point in the game. It was a perfect throw which got him. I mean the dude had to turn and throw after coming off a dead run.
Bad outcome, not sure I hate being aggressive there.

Stults is pitching fine. But if he can't get through five he will be sent to AAA by the time he reaches the dugout
No doubt
Stults over Schmidt is a no-brainer. I would even argue that Stults over Weaver was the right call. He’s put the Dodgers in a place to win the game, his hitters just need to pick him up. That’s what’s missing. The starter did his job though.

In that case, some dude made a Giambi arguement the other day.
He’s hitting .030 points less than Loretta, but at least the ball leaves the yard when he does make contact.
Bill Plaschke, piling on:
I know Manny’s success is helped by his resilient attitude, but does he really have to laugh after being thrown out at home plate?
I don’t necessarily think the “runs” he was referring were kind teams score…

So this is what defeatism feels like
"I don't know the meaning of the word 'surrender'!... I mean, I know it, I'm not dumb... Just - not in this context."
MLB.tv is gay
them and their retarded blackouts….
so they think people will pay to watch teams not in their area
what a load of bullshit…
all i want is to watch dodger games
and im not fortunate enough to have cable or direct tv
Giants lose
"I don't know the meaning of the word 'surrender'!... I mean, I know it, I'm not dumb... Just - not in this context."
Terrible ball calls this inning for Tron
All three of those have been called strikes this game. Meh.
This 3 games series will make us or break us
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 9, 2009 3:49 PM PDT reply actions
we'll still have a 2.5 game lead even in the worst case
and also face the g’s at home in 5 weeks – we also face nothing but <.440 teams excepting the g’s in the last 5 weeks
by stillnotah8er on Aug 9, 2009 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions
We have to win that series. . . if we get swept or lose 2 of 3
were in big trouble
by SeanMillerSavior on Aug 9, 2009 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions
can't say i'm worried
most of the losses in the past two weeks have been games which were just a few big hits away from going the oher way. no one in the bullpen seems remarkably bad at the moment, and I fully expect the likes of Huston Street and “Kung Fu Panda” to revert to the mean.
by stillnotah8er on Aug 9, 2009 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Hm.
I’m going to go out of a limb and say trading 2 outs for 1 run when down 7 in the bottom of the 9th isn’t the way to go.
you just don't get smallball
