Vazquez vs Stults, probably the most lopsided pitching match-up this year.

Manny’s OPS is now below 1.000. Before today’s game it is sitting at .99909

Holy shit what a voice for Joanna Pacitti, former American Idol contestant who sang the National Anthem.

McLouth is out today

Tweaked his hammy running Martin’s fly ball last night. Church is in CF and hitting leadoff. Just and FYI.

Thanks…I am here, and I didn’t notice that.

I was all ready to post a cool McLouth factoid too! :)

Tony Abreu narrowly beats the seasonal record for shortest stint with the big club, with 2 days. A.J. Ellis was active for 3 games at Wrigley Field in May.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:11 PM PDT reply actions

True…even a start!

They didn’t tell Abreu (not sure when they made the decision) until about 11:15 or so.

Brian Baumgartner and Oscar Nunez from “The Office” are here, and sitting together.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:16 PM PDT reply actions

The Baumgartner PSA for Dodgers code of conduct is hilarious.

That was a combo push bunt and horrible swing by Furcal

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:17 PM PDT reply actions

more stupid leadoff bunts

and furcals wondering why hes got the worst on base percentage….

Great pre-game notes, Eric

Especially like the clubhouse notes about the crossword and giant Giants packets.

Andre Ethier has an English bulldog that he named “Lil’ Wayne.”

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:25 PM PDT reply actions

Nice!

He actually named him “Dreson.” I wish I made that up.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep…confirmed by commenter JJ24 when he sat next to Ethier’s wife in Spring Training.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Nice…I’m adopting that (not the son, of course…the name).

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

The good thing about Yunel Escobar hitting a billionty with RISP is that he was only hitting .262/.339/.364 with nobody on…even lower after his K.

Stults FTW

5 batters…4 K, 1 BB

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:36 PM PDT reply actions

That looked painful..but Hudson is up.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:40 PM PDT reply actions

Hudson needs to stop hitting it off himself.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:42 PM PDT reply actions

Hudson looked OK running down the line there…at least he made JV throw 9 pitches.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:43 PM PDT reply actions

Gameday had it just low and outside, but you never know…an ump could easily call that a strike.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Leadoff single for nemesis KJ

By the way, I'm going to be at the game tomorrow night

And I want your opinion as to what I should wear.
A) Piazza Jersey
B) Letterman-style Dodger Jacket
C) Dodger T-Shirt
D) 756* T-Shirt
E) Dodger Batting Helmet
G) Regular everyday normal guy clothes
or any combination of those.
I’m in the mood to really show spirit, so what do you all think?

by Talka1ot on Aug 9, 2009 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

19 pitches in the 3rd…46 through 3 for Stults. No walks yet…Outside of the HR he has looked fine.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 1:55 PM PDT reply actions

Or the game will go into extra innings until the bullpen blows it.

The Dodger offense is putting me to sleep.

It could be worse Jason Schmidt could be pitching again.

He’s having fun out there.

by Penos Cabell on Aug 9, 2009 2:15 PM PDT reply actions

Nice sacrifice for the Beard

by shoothoop on Aug 9, 2009 2:18 PM PDT reply actions

what the heck was Manny thinking?

by Penos Cabell on Aug 9, 2009 2:20 PM PDT reply actions

You disagree with the play?

If the Dodgers are having a hard time scoring runs, I’m not sure that’s a horrible gamble at this point in the game. It was a perfect throw which got him. I mean the dude had to turn and throw after coming off a dead run.

Bad outcome, not sure I hate being aggressive there.

by Michael White on Aug 9, 2009 2:23 PM PDT up reply actions

You're right.

This could be a lot worse.

It could be Schmidt out there.

by Penos Cabell on Aug 9, 2009 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions

No doubt

Stults over Schmidt is a no-brainer. I would even argue that Stults over Weaver was the right call. He’s put the Dodgers in a place to win the game, his hitters just need to pick him up. That’s what’s missing. The starter did his job though.

by Michael White on Aug 9, 2009 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions

There you go…not bad for a guy who threw 61 pitches three days ago.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Lando goes the other way.

by Penos Cabell on Aug 9, 2009 2:33 PM PDT reply actions

Stults is finished? I think he could go one more.

by shoothoop on Aug 9, 2009 2:36 PM PDT reply actions

Bill Plaschke, piling on:

I know Manny’s success is helped by his resilient attitude, but does he really have to laugh after being thrown out at home plate?

Another hit robbed by Brendan Ryan Yunel Escobar.

by Nofatmike on Aug 9, 2009 2:54 PM PDT reply actions

So far so good for Weaver.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 2:58 PM PDT reply actions

Nice painless inning by Weaver.

by Nofatmike on Aug 9, 2009 2:59 PM PDT reply actions

The Braves are swigning at the first/second pitch against Weaver.

by shoothoop on Aug 9, 2009 3:02 PM PDT reply actions

Not a bad God Bless America

I think she missed that last note though.

by Penos Cabell on Aug 9, 2009 3:02 PM PDT reply actions

Loney on deck, if they didn’t show it on TV

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 3:18 PM PDT reply actions

MLB.tv is gay

them and their retarded blackouts….
so they think people will pay to watch teams not in their area
what a load of bullshit…
all i want is to watch dodger games
and im not fortunate enough to have cable or direct tv

by shaqfor3 on Aug 9, 2009 3:18 PM PDT reply actions

hopefully the giants lose so we still have a 5.5 game lead

by shaqfor3 on Aug 9, 2009 3:19 PM PDT reply actions

Vazquez pretty much owned the shit out of us. Not looking forward to this Giants series.

by Rolex l on Aug 9, 2009 3:26 PM PDT reply actions

I guess we have to get our two runs off Soriano then.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 3:26 PM PDT reply actions

waiting to score in the 9th

well thats just great…
start getting ready for the giants

by shaqfor3 on Aug 9, 2009 3:30 PM PDT reply actions

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 3:33 PM PDT reply actions

:/

Tomorrow night better not be like this.

by Talka1ot on Aug 9, 2009 3:34 PM PDT reply actions

Tron might be overworked to the point where his stuff isnt as good anymore. Seems like he’s giving up more runs/hits than usual

by shoothoop on Aug 9, 2009 3:34 PM PDT reply actions

just keep tron in

rest the bullpen for the giants series

if they score so be it

by shaqfor3 on Aug 9, 2009 3:36 PM PDT reply actions

Giants lose

well i guess giants r a bigger threat right now

by shaqfor3 on Aug 9, 2009 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Terrible ball calls this inning for Tron

All three of those have been called strikes this game. Meh.

It’s going to be a quiet plane ride up to the Bay.

by Rolex l on Aug 9, 2009 3:47 PM PDT reply actions

we'll still have a 2.5 game lead even in the worst case

and also face the g’s at home in 5 weeks – we also face nothing but <.440 teams excepting the g’s in the last 5 weeks

by stillnotah8er on Aug 9, 2009 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions

can't say i'm worried

most of the losses in the past two weeks have been games which were just a few big hits away from going the oher way. no one in the bullpen seems remarkably bad at the moment, and I fully expect the likes of Huston Street and “Kung Fu Panda” to revert to the mean.

by stillnotah8er on Aug 9, 2009 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Manny has three hits.

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 3:52 PM PDT reply actions

Hm.

I’m going to go out of a limb and say trading 2 outs for 1 run when down 7 in the bottom of the 9th isn’t the way to go.

by Michael White on Aug 9, 2009 3:57 PM PDT reply actions

oh now they make an effort to score

too bad they couldnt have done that earlier
when the game was still in reach

by shaqfor3 on Aug 9, 2009 3:57 PM PDT reply actions

Vazquez isn’t pitching anymore.

by shoothoop on Aug 9, 2009 3:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Odog is hitting well.

by shoothoop on Aug 9, 2009 3:58 PM PDT reply actions

What's going on here???

If we’re careful, SF would love to take our place in the NL West

by bodhiman on Aug 9, 2009 4:00 PM PDT reply actions

So, if we’re not careful, SF wouldn’t want to take our place? :)

by Eric Stephen on Aug 9, 2009 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions

pecota still likes the rockies much more

as of last night 51% to 21% for a postseason appearance
