New Blood Arrives As Dodgers Prep For D-Backs

The dawn of a new month brings some changes to Dodger Stadium tonight, as the Dodgers battle the Diamondbacks for the second game of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.

The first wave of September callups have arrived, in the form of catcher A.J. Ellis, pitcher Scott Elbert, and outfielder Jason RepkoJim Thome, wearing number 25, and Jon Garland, wearing number 21, are new to the fold as well, although the corresponding moves to add them to the 40-man roster have not yet been announced.

Vicente Padilla, whose week and a half in the Dodger organization makes him a veteran compared to all the newbies, gets his second start for the Dodgers tonight, and his first wearing the home whites.  Padilla did face the Diamondbacks on June 24, while with the Rangers, and picked up the win, pitching seven innings while allowing only one run.

Yusmeiro Petit gets the start for the Diamondbacks.  The Dodgers have touched him up twice this year, for a total of four home runs and ten runs in just nine innings.  Most recently, the Dodgers pounded Petit 16 days ago in Arizona, as the Dodgers won 9-3.

Matt Kemp has homered in four of his last five games, and has amassed 31 RBI in his last 31 games, hitting .317/.346/.611 with nine home runs during that span.

Hiroki Kuroda will make a rehabilitation start with Inland Empire tonight at 7:05pm in San Bernardino against the San Jose Giants.  You can listen online here, or follow the box score here.

The Dodgers passed the 3 million mark in attendance in last night's game, the 14th straight year the club has done so.

Programming Note:  Sunday's Dodger game against the Padres will now be played at 5:10pm, and be televised on ESPN2.

I would like to say I HATE KCAL GAMES. but I said I would not rant on that anymore, so that is all I have on the subject of shitty TV rules.

No I didn't....

Can you describe what he said?

by Michael White on Sep 1, 2009 2:55 PM PDT up reply actions

he said he like the giants over the rockies in the wild card

because of the giants offense… and he doesnt like the rockies cause their offense isnt explosive like the giants.. he also said cole hamels is struggling and the giants are not the team you want to face when you are strugglin… and he like the giants acquistion of brad penny over contraras… he said so much bs i forgot the rest..

by matthewmafa on Sep 1, 2009 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Kruk was also the technical consultant for the movie “The Fan.” Enough said :)

by Eric Stephen on Sep 1, 2009 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Really?

That movie was terrible, if I am remembering the right one.

by Brendan Scolari on Sep 1, 2009 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions

No I know

Sorry, I meant “Really?” as in I was surprised Kruk was a “technical consultant”. That wasn’t very clear.

by Brendan Scolari on Sep 1, 2009 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe Kruk was playing mad libs?

by Xeifrank on Sep 1, 2009 3:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, he did call the Rockies’ bullpen “smelly.”

by Eric Stephen on Sep 1, 2009 3:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Wow, is Kruk

drunk? I am speechless.

Maybe I differ from most on this issue,

But having watched a ton of Giants baseball living in the bay area with a family mostly composed of the Orange and Black, when they play their full line-up it’s actually comparable to Colorado.
I wouldn’t call it explosive, they don’t quite have the power that Colorado does, but what they do have is a bunch of players who are totally consistant single-double guys.
I mean, an order of Valez (.275), Sanchez (.297), Sandoval (.333), Molina (.262), Garko (.224 – the biggest under-achiever on the list – hitting .270 on the season even with this 80 AB slump), Schierholtz (.278), Rowand (.276) and Renteria(.264) is quite decent and comes along with some really solid defense behind the pitching. Much better defense than Colorado can yield with a slightly-better line-up.

by Talka1ot on Sep 1, 2009 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions

the giants have 1 batter who can even compare to

helton, tulo, hawpe then they got gonzolez fowler and barmes has 20 homers…. only sandoval is up to their level..

I don’t think it has been announced, but it will most likely be Thursday. He was going to start anyway, and that is Haeger’s spot anyway.

by Eric Stephen on Sep 1, 2009 3:11 PM PDT up reply actions

and just to add…anyway.

Matt kemp

hes been amazing this year… everyone in espn loves adam jones… but kemps stats and D is wayy better then him but kemp gets half the love of jones…

will kemp win a gold glove this year??

top 10 in MVP??

by matthewmafa on Sep 1, 2009 3:24 PM PDT reply actions

kemp will probably win a gold globe as far top 10 in MVP vote not sure

by Dodgermanramon on Sep 1, 2009 3:31 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

adam jones kind of came out of nowhere though

he was a great prospect but hadn’t done much in the majors yet. Kemp had a full year of quality play in the bigs already.

Plus Kemp plays on the west coast

by matthewmafa on Sep 1, 2009 3:29 PM PDT reply actions

so who are we supposed to be rooting for

in the PHI/SF game?

Philly was so bizarrely better on the road in the first half, I wonder if we even want home advantage against them.

by stillnotah8er on Sep 1, 2009 4:52 PM PDT reply actions

I am wondering if Sanchez can keep his no-hitter going.

Tough one

Giants are a very slight threat to knock us out of the playoffs, while the Phillies are fighting with us for HFA. Not sure.
vr, Xei

by Xeifrank on Sep 1, 2009 5:05 PM PDT up reply actions

The Phillies

because they are not the Giants.

by bpriebe on Sep 1, 2009 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

this g's lineup is just horrid

there isn’t a single player with a ba over .275 or more than 53 RBIs this season…

no nate, bengie, or pablo = AA bats

by stillnotah8er on Sep 1, 2009 5:51 PM PDT reply actions

But Kruk says they are good!

That they are superior to the Rockies! {Hic!} {Drool}

1 baserunner in 8 innings today however…
