He’s off the hook. I view any game that featured a comeback in the 9th to tie as living on borrowed time.
That said, we should probably go ahead and win :)

For the Stephen brothers
I’m really high on Jake Locker. If he doesn’t get hurt last year, well, they likely wouldn’t have lost all their games.
But, it would have to be an enormous let down for USC to lose.
But Locker’s senior year could be something.
Really?
that wouldn’t surprise me one bit. He’s a talent.

Well, I was joking a bit.
The Angels scouting direction has this fetish of drafting college football players. The Angels were able to sign Lockler though, but he has no intention of leaving football.
Yeah, he poses a very real threat. Nervous about that game.

I also like to think his name is “Jay Clocker” for some reason.

Tonight is a good example of why so many games end as one run games. If the Dodgers get a single walk off run and win 4-3, it will be the 2nd most likely final score. If the Pirates win 4-3 it will be #10 on the most likely list.

You made your point yesterday! :-)

Much like the Dodgers will this inning.

maybe the NY and east coast media overhyped him a bit? I think Kemp is really benefitting from being below the radar out here (comparatively speaking)
by KellyStephen on Sep 15, 2009 10:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Milledge was the 12th pick of the 2003 draft.
While Kemp was a 6th rounder.
It wasn’t the east coast media, he was considered a great prospect out of high school, which is why the Mets picked him with the 12th pick.
Yep
Baseball America 2006 Prospect Handbook had him rated highly. The four authors of the book had him at 7th, 8th, 16th and 29th best prospect in baseball.

Mark Reynolds would be if he did the same :)

Because Mota needs work!
Seriously though, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mota is thrown into this game.
He’s probably the next guy, and for multiple innings if needed

McD auditioning for a starting job in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was my thoughts
might as well see him get past that magical 2.0 inning threshold from when he was a starter
by Michael White on Sep 15, 2009 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions
That would pretty much be the greatest thing ever.

My favorite Bruin of all time.
Went to the 76 Rose Bowl Game and watched him win that game then he was drafted by the Rams. Good times in the Gurnee world.

No eyechart?
If JP’s coming in, I think Manny’s being taken out of the game.
If the Dodgers don’t score here.
on the Yahoo boxscore, you can’t even see back to when the Pirates scored. That should count for something :)
You can’t on the DS board either

his offense might not be that great as the start of the season, but his defense is hands down better than anything we could otherwise get

meh, honestly felt that way about McDonald…
by TheNewbster on Sep 15, 2009 10:49 PM PDT up reply actions
That's unfortunate
McD actually has something other than a straight fastball to use.
by silverwidow on Sep 15, 2009 10:50 PM PDT up reply actions
still…so many times he’s entered a situation like that and he’s gone just absolutely wild, iono, good to see 2 strong innings though

JMac clearly is a divisive player on this board
by Michael White on Sep 15, 2009 10:52 PM PDT up reply actions
I also feel compelled to point out that McDonald’s ERA as a reliever is 2.40 in 45 innings.

KCAL uses a 7 second buffer for dumps, CBS didn't for the Federer-del Potro match or Serena's tirade
Federer telling the chair ump he “[doesn’t] give a shit” and Serena dropping several clear F-bombs down the linesman’s throat.

if Jones had gotten a hit
everyone would have complained that we didn’t walk him. He is by far- by FAR the best hitter on the Pirates…
No, the real real question is, Where in the World is Cory Wade?

I think they still will take Abreu, but just being on the list would bar a player from being called up.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 15, 2009 10:57 PM PDT up reply actions
on a list currently in the hands of Josh Byrnes :)

on the bright side
Pirate blog complaining that Bellasario’s been good with the Dodgers after doing nothing for them in the minors. LOL
I bet Duke would be having one hell of a career If Tracy and colborn didn’t fuck him up for two years.

They're out of pitchers?
Can’t be anything good left. Should win it.

But Ethier can't hit lefties
He could possibly channel ENDRE, but it’s doubtful vs. LHP.

Its September! :)
Heck, the Dodgers have 16
by Eric Stephen on Sep 15, 2009 11:11 PM PDT up reply actions
When I was in the 2nd grade, one of my buddies tried to trick me into thinking that the higher the ERA the better so I would pick the crappy pitchers when we played video games.
If that were true though, the Pirates bullpen would be the best in the majors!

dat shit landed in pasadena
ok i watching the game/ doing homework…. :)

i feel bad for that fan who tried to catch that ball, but it had other thoughts.
... we sittin here talking about practice. not a game, not a game.
I felt bad for that Pirates pitcher
I feel bad for ALL these guys. They are not a major league baseball team. Nevertheless, they played as good a game as can be expected, and however bad I feel for the Pirates, I feel TEN TIMES better for the Dodgers!
i'll give them some slack
they don’t have Endre

Speaking of Purple Row, I wonder if this game finally got them to start swearing?
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.
The Red Sox kept on asking for Kemp, then Ethier when they were looking to trade Manny last year.
Ned wouldn’t trade either of them.
give ’em a day to look it up, prob have to go back pretty far.
by MaxDSterling on Sep 15, 2009 11:21 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm beginning to like that Ethier guy
See he can hit lefties with an ERA in double digits.
This was the second Dodger game in a row that I had to leave the game early and the Dodgers came back to win it with a home run.
The last one was by Steve Sax.
I’m glad I could at least keep the streak alive.
you don't understand- it's all part of Billy Beane's master plan...
…just like being in last place!
(Ned’s the one they should be making the movie about…)
that's why Home Loney, O-Dog, and (to a lesser extent) Russell didn't come through
In the end, they new who had to finish this.
it was all scripted by endre including the beardman error
"That is not how you play the game!!!" -Jack in the Box
I had a feeling Ethier was going to start busting it out
I thought it would be against a righty in the first nine. He looked frustrated against the Pirates starter, and I thought they wouldn’t respect him enough. That won’t happen again.
