While waiting for the game i ran into this article which has the greatest last paragraph ever.

If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.
Haha
Dirty Sanchez. Someone please post a pic of him.

Time to get closer to the playoffs while crushing the giants dream of a post season.
by Skunkburner on Sep 18, 2009 6:51 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
Fuck, that's the equivalent of Rafael Furcal starting a game with a home run:
The other pitcher has to feel down-right embarrassed.
Oh, yeah, and Padilla is totally getting squeezed...
A prelude to a looooonnnnggg night.
Manny at least made it look like he is trying.

I'm kind of hoping Padilla has a bad game.
Because I don’t want him anywhere near the playoff rotation.
Was that an Eephus pitch?
I missed it again! Damnit!
BTW, Oct. 3rd is now Star Wars night. Same night as True Blue LA night.
However, the only people getting free swag are the people sitting in the My Town section.
he's been great for us

He's been pretty decent sans tonight
Not saying I want to see him either, but after Kershaw, Wolf, and Kuroda, we are rolling the dice no matter who it is
I'd probably prefer Bills too
in a game 4, possibly 3. At that point give me the guy with good stuff, provided he’s healthy. I think pushing back Bills to where he wouldn’t face another team’s 1 or 2 may help him, although he’s been pretty bad lately
we dont know about bills though
so its up in the air
"That is not how you play the game!!!" -Jack in the Box
Bills has a much better track record than Padilla
Padilla up til today has pulled a Marlon Anderson and dominated in a small sample size. I don’t want to see him regress to the mean in the middle of the playoffs.
True
I think Bills may be struggling mentally, and also hurt. I’m not sure either is a great option, but I agree I’d lean Bills so long as he’s healthy.
since the series back against the braves
hes been downhill since
lets hope he gets it together so he can stay on that playoff roster

I’m just saying that the Dodgers just gotta take care of business. Go to work, take out the trash, do the laundry, make dinner, pay the bills. Don’t worry that your next door neighbor bought a porsche, or that his wife got some new boobs, just be sure to take care of your shit and everything else will take care of itself.

Kemp - Martin - Manny - Blake - Endre might've worked better tonight.
The first four pretty much thrash lefties, and Endre is always getting that important hit if he has the chance, even against lefties.

Telling me to go fuck off doesn’t change the fact that Bills has been piss poor since May, that’s fact.
It also doesn’t change the fact that you only exist to antagonize baseball fans who want to post about the Dodgers. You want to say Billingsley sucks? Fine. by stillnotah8er on Sep 18, 2009 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions
For sake of comparison:
Bills’ last 5 starts (he’s 0-4): 4.50 FIP.
Haeger’s 2009 MLB season: 5.76 FIP
by Eric Stephen on Sep 18, 2009 10:12 PM PDT up reply actions
now kindly compare their WHIPs, good sir
by stillnotah8er on Sep 18, 2009 10:12 PM PDT up reply actions
When trying to project the future, which is what we are doing, its much better to analyze things the pitcher has control over (HR, BB, K). x-FIP would be better, because it normalizes the flyball rate, but I don’t have those numbers on a game-by-game basis.
Allowing line drives that find gloves, and lower WHIP (much like Jason Schmidt’s start in Atlanta) don’t really do much to suggest a positive performance going forward.

the kid threw one 'fastball' he shouldn't have

the obvious predictabiity of the location

experience is a great teacher
even better than rick h
by stillnotah8er on Sep 18, 2009 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions
If experience is a great teacher
then why not just stick with Bills who has 2 full seasons as a starter?
You are giving Haeger way too much credit. “one fastball he shouldn’t have” was just one homer he gave up. he has also given up 3 others in 18.1 innings. Even taking away the homer on the fastball, his FIP is 5.05.
His BABIP is a ridiculously low .167. That will not continue. Balls will drop. I mean the ones that haven’t left the yard.
I get that you’re a big Haeger fan. But to suggest he is one of our top 4 starters is absurd at worst, and just plain wrong at best.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 18, 2009 10:22 PM PDT up reply actions
it was a double
to the jimmy kimmel -30 pounds guy, I believe. the homers were understandable.
it isn’t absurd at all. as long as he doesn’t get cute with his ‘fastball’, he has been largely unhittable.
by stillnotah8er on Sep 18, 2009 10:23 PM PDT up reply actions
If he were “unhittable” he would miss more bats. People hit the ball off him. You are betting he will continue to have 5 of every 6 of those find gloves. I’m betting he won’t.
I’m right.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 18, 2009 10:25 PM PDT up reply actions
that's an opinion, eric
and in my opinion, the fact that no one in the NL has seen a good consistent k’ball in their entire career is a great weapon to have.
that’s the thing i hate about modern baseball – the orthodoxy of pitcher roles, the lack of respect for the beauty of a well-executed parlor trick… o for the spitball era…

Funny…over dinner I was talking w/my son about the intensity of the Dodger/Giant rivalry in the past. I told him it would be great if the Dodgers started a call-up and had him the first batter. Then the 2nd. He would then get a warning, so have him hit the 3rd and get tossed. Then the Dodgers can bring in their “starter” to try to get out of a bases loaded jam. I would absolutely LOVE that!
And do it Sunday, so when the Freak gets on the mound he can’t even come close to a batter because both benches would have been warmed.

But you’re in high school so my “respect” for your musical taste is certainly circumspect.
Before you react, know that i have a son who is also in high school and we have some very similar musical tastes. He has some likes that I don’t agree with, but he’s been suitably brainwashed to really respect and love some of the greats.

I'm not sure if he was jeering Boston the band or Boston the city
I’d have no problem if it was the latter though.

I have no preference either way on Boston the band.
Now if you’re a Mars Volta fan, you might have some ethnic cleansing to do.
boston is probably my least favorite band of that era
so incredibly over-processed. but it still makes me genuinely sad to think of that guy – millions of people loved his voice, even if i didn’t.

Doctors answering medical questions on a daytime TV show?
Do you know what kind of people watch daytime TV? I’m shocked it’s not number 1.
