Spaulding Smails Game Chat Continuation

It was getting a little whiny in game thread #1, so here's a new one.  4-0 Arizona mid-6th.

You want a scapegoat?  I give you Pete Wentz.

I just don’t think we can win long term with the worst offensive 1b in the league at a premium offensive position. I think we can replace him rather cheaply, and should.

by oshea2002 on Sep 2, 2009 9:48 PM PDT up reply actions

we have one of the worst first basemmen in the league

and shortstop… and yet the first basemen bats in the middle of the order and and shortstop bats leadoff…. and we also have a catcher who cant hit and can only walk…

for those that wanted to roast Billingsley (again)

I only heard the game on the radio, but it sounds like he gave up a few well hit balls in one inning, followed by some really bad luck (and defense). Not nearly as bad as Charlie & Rick seem to be making it sound as they do the recap.

No run support doesn’t help, either. Good as the Dodgers are, runners at 2nd or 3rd appear to be their kryptonite…

by sarcastro9 on Sep 2, 2009 9:51 PM PDT reply actions

I just think Loney needs a LITTLE help

I’m concerned, but not ready to give up on him. not even close. He’s way too good to be this bad. We’ve seen the “real” Loney, and this ain’t him. He’ll get it worked out, eventually. We can only hope it’ll be soon.

by sarcastro9 on Sep 2, 2009 9:57 PM PDT reply actions

2008.

He slump, he had a hot streak, but at least he hit near the league average, and was great in Oct.

by Tripon on Sep 2, 2009 10:09 PM PDT up reply actions

?!

First off (no pun intended), we have Mndfsjvxcdsicz back. So there’s your backup first baseman. Second, “old age” and injuries not withstanding, Thome is about as great a “backup first baseman” as anyone can hope for at the plate. Besides, the last thing the Dodgers need is to trade away ANOTHER prospect to get someone to play for a few games if Loney continues to struggle.

The right thing to do is get Loney back on track. (also a lot less costly in every way imaginable) Who did you have in mind, anyway?

by sarcastro9 on Sep 2, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions

If Abreu doesn't clear waivers

a.k.a. the Padres or some other team claims him, I wonder if Ohman’s season is finished. They might not want to DFA anyone else, so…….

by silverwidow on Sep 2, 2009 10:07 PM PDT reply actions

maybe, but...

…for those disappointed with Loney, Garko doesn’t look like he’s done a whole lot for the Giants. It’s easier to be frustrated with your own guys when you watch them every night. We’re going in circles here, but if Loney is the Loney of ‘08, let alone ’07 (or heck, even the Loney of the middle of THIS season), we’re not even talking about this. I’m fairly confident he’ll get there again, hopefully in a Dodger uniform…

by sarcastro9 on Sep 2, 2009 10:09 PM PDT reply actions

loney in 2008 wasnt much better..

below average player still for a first basemen

by matthewmafa on Sep 2, 2009 10:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Josh Lindblom tonight – 2 innings 0 hits 0 BB’s 4 K’s

Call him up! :)

by Bluetrek on Sep 2, 2009 10:12 PM PDT reply actions

if loney keeps going like this

there is no way that when the playoffs come rolling around joe will put him in the lineup and keep thome on the bench… first base is the easiest position to play and thome gives you the best chance of winning…

if joe wants to win the WS he will put thome on first and bench loney.. it gives you the best shot at winning…
