Kemp just needs 3 more RBIs
to reach 100 but he’ll have to keep hitting to maintain that .300+ average.

Should be easier
facing the pitching of the Nationals/Pirates/Rockies. The Rockie rotation appears winded. To bad we can’t play the wild card in the first round, would not be surprised to see them swept.
by meercatjohn on Sep 23, 2009 3:49 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
At the start of today's play, those 97 RBIs have Kemp tied for 10th in the NL, with Ryan Zimmerman
This despite 70 starts batting 7th or lower in the batting order.
I know RBI is an old-fashioned counting stat, but is there any question about the quality of the players in the NL top-10?
1. Pujols (STL) 129
Fielder (MIL) 129
3. Howard (PHI) 126
4. Lee (CHC) 109
5. Dunn (WSN) 103
Braun (MIL) 103
7. Ethier (LAD) 102
Ramirez (FLA) 102
9. Reynolds (ARI) 100
10. Kemp (LAD) 97
Zimmerman (WSN) 97
Kemp also has 94 runs scored, so he has an chance at being a 100-100 man there too.

The list of Dodger all-time 100-100 season is 27 different season, and quite impressive:

I sure hope it’s not Loretta because of his “veteran presence”

It will be Loretta or Thome...
but since Loretta has been with the team all year it will be him.
I expect Wolf to be the pitching coach.

I think gameday doesn’t really know which pitches are 4-seamers and which are cutters, though it tries to distinguish one from the other.
by David Young on Sep 23, 2009 4:20 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree
I think that’s why Chad’s “average fastball velocity” is a bit lower than it really is per Fangraphs. Cutters are being marked as 4 seamers.

Velocity is not the end all for a pitcher
He will have to be able to command it so its likely he will throw it a little slower.

You pitch only once a week in college.
5 man rotation, pitching every 5 days, etc. Pitchers velocities will drop after working more.

by meercatjohn on Sep 23, 2009 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
damn- you've really latched on to this!
I’m just waiting for him to make a diving play on a bases loaded groundout- hopefully, it won’t come to that tonight!

My thinking on the Lasorda portrait: why did they dude paint an older Lasorda in uniform? Why not a semi-younger one?

He sat for the portrait recently.

If he keeps this up, watch out.

Damn, he got caught again, too bad the Nats weren’t as inept as last time.
by Ivdown on Sep 23, 2009 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
blown call?
Something like that happened to the Mets against the Nats, but they (the Mets) screwed up, of course, and one baserunner overran the other, because they were confused about the blown call. It’s on the highlight reel at Dodger Stadium.
Leave it to the Mets to use a blown call in their favor against themselves! :))
