that why i added the ? because i know its a little different for everyone
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Reason 1003 why the Mets suck
Bases loaded nobody out down 4-1 in the 4th, and Pelfrey hits for himself, he did strike out so that was the best outcome you could expect.
Realistically
I can’t see Chad pitching more than 2 more innings even if he has something great going on.
you think they would pull chad out of a no hitter?
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
well i saw it already got mentioned in the other thread, so i thought the jin was on anyway : )

Reporting from Washington D.C. – Shaking his head, Jim Thome said today that he continues to be hindered by the foot problems that have limited him to nine pinch-hit plate appearances in his three weeks with the Dodgers.
“I came over to try to help,” Thome said. “But this little foot thing I’ve had is a pain in the butt.”
Thome’s problems resurfaced Tuesday night when he ran down the first base line in an eighth-inning pinch-hit at-bat.

Dunno if anybody mentioned it:
But at AA Jacksonville about four years ago, Chad and Brox combined. I think Chad only went six, too.
He went 7 that night. Opener of a playoff series

Does one pitch doom him for the rest of the year
Is it a lapse of concentration or just a hitter taking advantage of a mistake.
well this sucks
Bills only hit allowed is a home run
fucking goddammit!
"That is not how you play the game!!!" -Jack in the Box
Yup
the thing is the runner on 2nd from the leadoff walk. He pitched carefully to Dunn, as you would recommend. If there was only 1 runner on, Bills likely would have pitched carefully to Zimmerman as he did the previous time he faced them…
by Michael White on Sep 23, 2009 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions
He missed his spot by 2 feet. Nobody to blame but himself.
And these Galaxy commercials have the lowest possible production value.
that's what I tell my pitchers
when I visit them on the mound… “You might want to throw more strikes. Please?”
You get the feeling
that BIlls is going to get crucified instead of lauded for allowing 1 hit in 6 innings.
3 earned runs on one hit
the only walk that REALLY is outrageous was that leadoff walk to that mediocre pinch hitter…Dunn on a full count, I understand
God damnit
This just fucking sucks. It’s always the big homerun that does the Dodgers in it seems like. If you’re going to give up a homerun make it a solo, fuck.
Always does the Dodgers in?
The Dodgers have the best record in the NL. How badly can things be going for the Dodgers?
by Michael White on Sep 23, 2009 5:53 PM PDT up reply actions
Who cares about the record? Just because they have the best record doesnt mean that one thing can’t always hurt them. I’m not saying the Dodgers suck because they give up big homeruns, I’m saying it always seems like its the multi-run homeruns that hurt them.
Ya seriously
Games when the Dodgers give up a lot of homeruns tend to hurt them.
Also games when they don’t score a lot of runs.
by Michael White on Sep 23, 2009 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Way to act like a dick and completely miss my point.
Another game that comes to mind is Kershaw’s start against the Rockies in Coors. He was juist blowing through their lineup, and he has 1 runner on against Hawpe, who he made look like a fool in his last at bat, and Hawpe just destroys the ball.
I'm not going to engage someone who calls me a dick
by Michael White on Sep 23, 2009 6:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Fuck off tool
El Lay Dave accurately points out that your entire argument is bullshit.
by Michael White on Sep 23, 2009 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes, but my point is that the Dodgers always seem to give it up in situations like this where they have the game firmly in hand and BOOM, there it goes.
Given their W-L record – that can’t be true. Your perception is being skewed by remember the bad moments and forgetting the wins that got easily sealed.
I’m with Dave. It just doesn’t happen that often.
Dodgers have given up 41 multi-run home runs this season.
The average team in MLB gives up 65 multi-run home runs.
Even if a higher % hurt the Dodgers, it doesn’t make up for giving up a third fewer homers than average.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 23, 2009 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions
seriously
whyd it have to be a 3 run home run?
a bloop single fine….

I’ll rewind it, but it seemed like he the DP wasn’t gonna happen anyway on first look
by Eric Stephen on Sep 23, 2009 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm calling this a moral victory
I want to see what he does in the other two starts. I’m not saying he shouldn’t accept the blame, but the PRICE he pays for his mistakes always seems so out of proportion.
I'm still of the opinion that the walks goes up for Bills as his strikeouts go up
I don’t mind walks if he’s striking batters out. During his slump, he’s been doing neither and pitching to contact. That I don’t like….
by Michael White on Sep 23, 2009 5:55 PM PDT up reply actions
I really hate Zimmerman right now, and he screws us again on the Pierre bunt.
it’s my fault, i traded Hanley and Zimmerman in fantasy for Chris Davis, some dude, and Kazmir (instead of Greinke) basically out of spite for the commish cause he was a douche and tried to conspire to get the best players in the league. Ughhhh.
1 pitch
and Bills loses the no hitter, shutout, and the decision
by SeanMillerSavior on Sep 23, 2009 6:00 PM PDT reply actions
My faith is (almost) restored in Bills
Everything goes in cycles, everything regresses to the mean. Everyone has setbacks. In a way, this is yet another test for him- he pitched great, and yet paid enormously for ONE PITCH. He should use that as a motivator.
bottom line: If BIlls is truly “back”, he still has time to prove it.
I doubt his advice was to hang a curve.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 23, 2009 6:04 PM PDT up reply actions
Ya, but it was probably something along the lines of "try to get a first pitch strike"
I think Bills does best when he’s “effectively wild.”

Zimmerman is a great hitter
besides, even people that are “unhittable” throw a few pitches that aren’t. It just doesn’t always end up such a perfect storm, as it did…and often does…for Chad Billingsley.
After the way he pitched against San Francisco on Friday, I’ll take it…

Look, I don’t think they are going to decide on what happens to Chad after tonight, I am sure he is down because of the one pitch but he has to be able to continue to focus on the task at hand, he’ll get one more start on the road and then we’ll see what happens.

signing Ron was our backup plan
He made it clear he wanted to sign with LA. So if we didn’t get Ariza, we most certainly would get Ron. It’s cool we got Ron, but Ariza would’ve given us more speed and age.
True
But what we lose in speed, we gain in strength and toughness. And Ron isnt as old as people are making him out to be. Hes only 29 with 4-5 yrs of solid ball left.

30 in November
Plus, Ariza would’ve given us more years of solid ball. And I don’t question Ariza’s toughness, he really showed it in the playoffs.
Artest is gonna be better
Hes gonna age well anyway because his defensive game was never based off speed and athleticism anyways like Trevor. More on strength, position and smarts.
by desecrator09 on Sep 23, 2009 7:27 PM PDT up reply actions
Smarts?
Artest had the lowest field goal percentage on 2-pointers among ALL forwards. Though I don’t question you on his strength, Trevor’s speed and athleticism was real special. Artest doesn’t have the explosiveness Trevor has.
Smarts on DEFENSE
Artest’s Strenth is gonna help ALOT on the bigger SFs. Ariza couldnt guard them for shit. Just get over it man. Hes gone and he aint comin back.

Look
I’m not saying in ANY WAY we’re now going to die cuz we have Artest. I still think we’re the best team in basketball right now, we have a 3-4 year window of greatness. But that window could have been more wider with signing Ariza. If you don’t think Ariza is a lock down defender then I would advise you to watch the nba 08-09 season because his defense and athleticism was a factor in winning us that championship.
He was a GOOD defender
He cant guard the bigger SFs like Melo, LBJ and Pierce. And our window wouldve been the same even if we kept Ariza since Kobe, Pau and Lamar are all in their early 30s.
by desecrator09 on Sep 23, 2009 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions
im concerned about artests shooting
ariza statistically was a much better shooter especially from 3 pt land than artest
artest just needs to do more of his scoring in the paint (hes got a solid frame) and less of it from the perimeter…
"That is not how you play the game!!!" -Jack in the Box
Because
Artest had to shoot more contested shots when Yao went down and hes not good at creating his own shots. Over here, hes gonna have the same role as Ariza. Knock donw wide open 3s.
by desecrator09 on Sep 23, 2009 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions
Downgraded. Artest’s reputation as a lock down defender is a bit stale now. But I think the difference between the 2 immediately will be pretty negligible.

The Nats were pretty unusual tonight
They scored three runs on their first hit of the night.
They scored a guy from second on a FC that would have been a GIDP if not for an off-target throw.
They scored the winning run after the somewhat rare steal of 3rd with one out in the bottom of the last.
Just a weird game in a lot of ways.
Torre would have walked Baker and Hanley intentionally and pitched to Cantu with the sacks juices and one out hoping for a DP through home to get out of it.
PHAT JULIO
He was a GOOD defender. He cant guard the bigger SFs like Melo, LBJ and Pierce. And our window wouldve been the same even if we kept Ariza since Kobe, Pau and Lamar are all in their early 30s.
Gasol won’t be 30 until after this coming season. But you’re right, it’s Kobe and Pau, and to a lesser extent Lamar, that dictate the size of the window.

LBJ didn’t even score 20 points against the Lakers this season. Neither did Pierce. And melo was shut down during the playoffs after game 3.

Can we put him on the DL??, the guy has bad Karma, i can’t watch the games when he’s pitching , his bad KARMA spread to his teammates last night.
I asked you before, but please stop being stupid before posting here. Or just go away. This is your final warning.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 24, 2009 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions
This is ridiculous on many levels.
- He threw a six-inning one-hitter with nine Ks.
- There is no reason to DL anyone once the rosters are expanded, except to the 60-day to make a 40-man spot, but the Dodgers aren’t going to do that, and don’t have anyone they’re dying to get on the 40-man roster.
- Karma is, roughly, when you do good/bad things, you are revisited by the good/bad things, respectively. What bad thing did Billingsley do to deserve his bad luck? Speak too softly to be recorded in a beat writer’s microphone? By all accounts, he’s a good guy.
- You posted this at the bottom of a game thread thirteen hours after the last comment when there was at least two newer, relevant topics to post in, the game summary, and the Ethier/Orr post.
