I’ve been meaning to write about him more.
I did have a story with him on August 27, but yes, he has been a tad under-represented

When discussing Padilla, anyway, we need to use terms like “lineup” rather than “audition” because of his resemblance to the Nightstalker :)

Wow, so after Broxton and Kuo
the next best reliever (according to FIP) is….
wait, that can’t be right.
It needed to be pointed out (again) after the disproportionate hatred of McDonald in last night’s game thread.

just don't bring up the guy with the best whip
now that we have tossed that metric into the dustbin of history

Well, sort of, ya...
WHIP is better than ERA, but inferior to FIP (IMO)

“Furcal probably should be ready to go tomorrow.”

Heh.
Also, kind of muffled but not heard on microphone was “but I’m still starting Belliard at 2B.” :)

“ready to go” code word for “ready to sit his ass on the bench again and watch someone else get his 4 plate appearances and watch $40K fly out of his hands and back into Frank’s wallet”.
i wonder if Joe’s getting 25% of O-Dog’s unpaid incentive…

Here's an interesting thought
Start Kuo in the playoffs???
I know he’s not stretched out, but it’s an interesting look from a power stuff standpoint.
I would love to see what the inside of your head looks like :)

Silverwidow is a good dude, so I don’t think he’ll have a NashvilleDodger-type reaction :)

My brother flippantly mentioned Deliverance, and was told to go fuck himself.

At least he didn't suggest that Withrow start a playoff game
and only suggested a person who has not thrown more then one inning even one time this year.
withrow should start game 1
and kuo game 2
lindblom game 3
padilla game 4
and in a 7 game series
kershaw for game 8 and wolf for 9
I would love to have Kuo transition back into a starter
I think having 4 days of rest every in between games would be better for his arm than what he’s currently doing now (or what he did last year.)
by Michael White on Sep 24, 2009 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I disagree
He’s all about the stuff. He needs to be able to go all out to be effective, and relieving is the best way to do that.
by Eric Stephen on Sep 24, 2009 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions
In the past I wanted Kuo to start
but from I can tell they don’t think they trust him throwing breaking balls as a starter. He’s had a hard enough time just throwing the hard stuff for one inning and staying healthy.
There was no bigger proponent of making Guo a starter in his early Dodgers days, but even I cannot fathom making him a starter again due to all his injury track record. Whatever role best suits the health of his arm, is the role I am in favor of.
vr, Xei
And then his arm blows off, and Torre will blame a young buck named Silverwidow for giving him the idea.
But no. If they do that for some reason, then they need to find a 2nd lefty for the pen.
elbert is not ready
he needs more time in the minors…
check out his minor league splits this season..
Lighten up
The whole suggestion was simply to get a rise out of people. Just like that line yesterday or the day before about offering Pujols a billion dollars (that one obviously didn’t work).
I’d much rather have Elbert be the starter
by Eric Stephen on Sep 24, 2009 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't think Elbert will ever be what we want him to be
It is subjective but he’s been very unimpressive to me. Just a wild ass lefty.
It could be a springboard like Bob’s Kuo comment on DT in 2007

Tonight is the 9th time the Dodgers have had (at least) their first 3 batters reach base. They are 7-1 in the previous 8.
The times it has been only hits to start (all wins):
May 3 – single, double, double, single
May 31 – 5 singles
July 9 – double, single, single
Aug 16 – double, single, homer
would matt kemps homerun be classified as
Home run to Center Field
or
Home Run to Left Center Field?

dodgers have the highest average attendance for home games in the entire league....

yeah that plays into that number alot
todays newer stadiums are smaller
and charge more for tickets
dodgers have the largest stadium thats not a multipurpose stadium at 56,000

Hey we got more from Padilla then even the dreamiest dreamer was dreaming of
so he can get bombed now that we don’t really care. Couldn’t have picked a better game to get rocked.
Notice Eric's chart above
we already have a really really really good bullpen.
Padilla will be left off the postseason roster and we’ll never hear from him again. Oh well.

he's really good everywhere
as long as he doesn’t try his ‘fastball’.
this is why he has the team’s best WHIP.

will weaver make the postseason roster??
or will haegar or padilla make it over him as the long man?
See guys, everybody chill
Padilla got out of it giving up three runs. He can still pitch a good game.
the interesting thing with Padilla to me
is that a few weeks ago in a post, someone put up a listing of his games pitched this season. He either pitched great or pretty bad one it seemed. If I remember right. It made me think, maybe if in the right situation, he might be a pitcher right in between those two drastic sides. Maybe the guy can learn to mix well in a good clubhouse with good coaches and revive his career.

They did extend the lead to two. Unfortunate Belliard could hit at least an SF himself.

Isnt Steve Lyons the guy who said....
The Dodgers are hitting too many Homeruns??
Jon Garland, Randy Wolf, Clayton Kershaw and Hiroki Kuroda will start the Dodgers’ four-game series in Pittsburgh that starts on Friday, in that order.
Kershaw, who was out for more than two weeks with a separated non-throwing shoulder, will be on a pitch count of around 70.

I'm just going to randomly sing, just to take my mind off this
“whoaa, dream weaver…I believe you can get me through the night”
Jerry Crawford sucks at union tactics as well.
Crawford was the president of the Major League Umpires Association in 1999 when the umpires attempted a mass-resignation strategy. The strategy was unsuccessful. While Crawford kept his job, 22 umpires’ resignations were accepted. Some have since regained their major league positions, others have been promised a position as soon as a vacancy occurs, and some were offered settlements that did not include a return to the field.
Kershaw should take “power shagging” lessons from his dad.

was bound to happen
better now than the first day of the playoffs, when people would’ve been deceived into thinking he’s preferable to a semi-slumping O-Dog.
(of course, he’s preferable to an INJURED O-Dog, but hopefully, that’s not the case)
lets hope he gets throught the 5th then we can turn it over to the bullpen
"That is not how you play the game!!!" -Jack in the Box
Just read ESPN the Mag article on Matt Kemp
Thought this was cool. From Eric Neel:
The first time Kemp stole a base as a major leaguer, on May 29, 2006, Braves broadcaster Don Sutton said that he looked like “a big buffalo” because of his size (6’3", 225 pounds) and speed. The comment spawned a nickname, The Bison, which the country boy from Spencer, Okla., likes so much that he puts a picture of the animal on the heels of his game spikes
perfect combo
good enough to win…not good enough into lulling people into falsely believing he’s playoff starter…
Hopefully
not good enough to get a multi-year deal from Ned. Of course, anythings possible…

Jonathan Broxton, Dodgers
Big Jon is untouchable right now. The 25 year-old closer with NFL lineman size has not allowed a run to score on his watch in over a month (Aug. 19th, to be exact). Over that time frame, Broxton has laid waste to hitters with 26 K’s and three walks in 14.2 IP. Jon has 13.69 K/9 for the year, while inducing weak grounders when hitters actually do manage to make contact (55.2 GB%). Broxton’s +3.60 Win Probability Added is tops in the National League.
he is definitely not our guy
