ESPN's unintentional motivation for the Dodgers
As much as I love bashing ESPN, I've tried to cut back just a little, as I realize that it wears a bit thin. Plus, with a very nice article about Matt Kemp, I figured maybe they could use a break, even though I still can't stand them for many reasons.
No more.
There's an article, written by Steve Berthiaume, analyzing the holes of the various playoff teams' bullpens (no mention of the Braves in there, but I'll leave that to their fans to worry about). It's a brief analysis to begin with, but there is one team in particular that doesn't even have its pitchers' names MENTIONED. Can you guess which one? I knew you could.
This is what he has to say about the team with the best record in the National League:
"As far as the Dodgers go, they won't win. In fact, they won't survive the division series. I'll go you one better: Put me down as the Dodgers going three-and-out in the first round. That's my bold prediction. Nearly every year, one September favorite forgets to show up in October. This year, it will be the Dodgers. "
That's it. That's the whole thing. Never mind that the Dodgers have, at least statistically speaking, the best bullpen in the NL, if not all of baseball. They're gonna get swept, regardless of the opponent, so there's no need to even analyze the bullpen. The truth is, the writer probably has trouble naming anyone IN the bullpen for the Dodgers, or anyone who doesn't play left field, for that matter- just like most of the rest of the "analysts" at ESPN. (He might know Sherrill, just because he probably pitched against the Yankees a few times over the years.) I just hope that they pass this around the clubhouse, just as the Pirates were distributed that "practice series" article.

lol I'm actually starting to enjoy all this
It makes me laugh to realize that people are actually being paid to write crap like that. At least give us a few names and reasons why we’ll go “3 and out” in the NLDS. And honestly, I have no problem with the prediction that we’ll lose early. I’d be actually interested in reading it if he had any substance in it. But any loser or 5 year old can say “(fill in the blank) team will lose in the 1st round.” Try some analysis next buddy. What a buffoon.
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

Steve Berthiaume is a huge Red Sox fan, and can’t be bothered to remember why he doesn’t like the Dodgers.

Un Fucking Believable
What kinda of sports analysis is that. The Dodgers have the best pen in baseball, look over the stats ( I know these are old school stats but they are what ESPN uses most) lowest era, lowest opponents BA, most Ks and this buffoon simply dismisses them without a word about any player.
Here is my analysis of the MLB postseason, the Angels eliminate the RS, there is a little crying at ESPN, the dodgers beat the CArds ESPN starts going apeshit about “umpire judgement calls”. the Angels beat the Yankees ESPN continues the whinning about bad umping, the Dodgers beat the Philles 4-3, Either lights up Lidge for Four walk offs. ESPN declares the baseball season over and goes straight to around the clock coverage of Tom Brady. The Dodgers take one of the first 2 in Anaheim, then 3 straight at home to win our first World Series in 21 years, ESPN reports none of it and loses all credibitly of being an impartial reporter of sports and is exposed as the mouth piece of East Coast bias.

I saw this article too, and you beat me to writing a FanPost on it. :)
How ironic that he chooses an article about bullpens to ignorantly dismiss the Dodgers.
You wanna know how great baseball is? The greatest basketball player ever left his sport to play baseball.

Isn't Berthiaume a hockey guy?
Not sure why he’s pontificating about the NL playoff matchups…

No. You're thinking of John Buccigross.
Berthiaume been hosting Baseball tonight in place of Karl Raverch.

Now that I think about it
Wasn’t there a kings goalie named Daniel Berthiaume during the late 80s and early 90s?
I'm nobody's fool, least of all yours

He really is an idiot.
Check out this line in the concluding paragraph:
So often, postseason survival comes down to one thing: Can your bullpen get those critical outs late in games?
Yet he predicts a first-round sweeping by the NL team with the best bullpen! LMAO!
