Apparently not

But then again outside of the Yankees, no one is playing great ball.

Not that it matters.

The Dodgers outfield, which has been the only real source of offense from the Dodgers this year, has gone into a giant funk. This offense is screwed without them. All i see Ethier doing is popping up to the third base seats, and he isn’t hitting after he keeps on fouling shit off. Kemp seems to just be grounding to third a bunch. Manny, well, Manny is just not good right now.

This offense is killing the Dodgers.

by Ivdown on Sep 29, 2009 9:36 PM PDT reply actions

Kemp

has actually been hitting the ball fairly well lately. It’s just been going right at people.

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Sep 29, 2009 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually yeah, there was one game last week where he hit the ball hard in all but 1 at bat, and he was 0-4.

Even Vin sees how funny it is to talk about Playoff matchups when we can’t beat the lower teams in the NL.

Their play is inspiring no confidence

Despite Eric’s post earlier, I feel no sense that this team is going to turn it on in the playoffs.

by BlueBulldog on Sep 29, 2009 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, the facts can be spun the other way to

If prior seasons are some kind of predictor of the post season this year, then certainly prior games (i.e. the last 7) can be a predictor of the next 5). So the fact is, the Dodgers offense is sucking.

by BlueBulldog on Sep 29, 2009 9:41 PM PDT up reply actions

for all we know

a bunch of bloop hits are gonna fall in the playoffs, the other team will hit liners at us all day, we’ll get a bunch of breaks and win. That’s what happens in the playoffs. the team that gets the breaks wins.

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Sep 29, 2009 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions

i couldn't care less how they win

as long as they do eventually. The postseason is a total crapshoot. It doesn’t matter how we’re playing now, tomorrow, in 4 days. All that matters is once the playoffs start…which, in case we forget, we’re ALREADY IN

I mean the heartbreaking blown save kinda set us into a tail spin, and now im just sitting here anxiously waiting for it to happen

He’s still hitting though. If Manny or Ethier or Kemp were still getting hits and helping the team, then there would be no problem. But all 3 have been on and off (mostly off lately), while Pujols is still the mother-effing man!

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

by bucknellbruin on Sep 29, 2009 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

I knew his OBP was that high, but it’s only because it’s been easier for teams to walk him lately and pitch to whoever is behind him, which recently has been Kemp.

And actually, since Pujols hit his last homerun, Manny is hitting .250/.434/.475. Yes, it is better. But Idk where you get your stats on that or why you think his numbers have been like that in the time since Pujols last homered, which is what this little debate has been about.

by Ivdown on Sep 29, 2009 9:46 PM PDT up reply actions

I just baseball reference

because they have 7 14 and 21 day splits. Manny has out hit Pujols by a good amount over the last 14 days and you said he has sucked. Big difference.

I said chances of the NL West being at stake this weekend

That means, STARTING FRIDAY. The chances are NOT zero percent.

by silverwidow on Sep 29, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions

The chance of Rox winning division is *very* small

The chance of Dodgers not clinching before Friday is probably at least 35-40%. Richard isn’t a bad young pitcher, and the Brewers are throwing trash scubs at us the next two days.

Friday should be very interesting.

Odds are far better that Dodgers win tomorrow than the Rox losing either of next two games, though.

Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave

by Mondogarage on Sep 29, 2009 10:10 PM PDT up reply actions

zero percent

no chance…. no way the dodgers are loosing the nl west

by matthewmafa on Sep 29, 2009 10:15 PM PDT up reply actions

If we go extreme and assume the Rockies have a 70% chance of winning their two remaining home games, and assume the Padres have a 70% chance of beating the Dodgers tomorrow, the chances of heading into Friday with the NL West at stake are 34.3%. But those are extreme assumptions.

If we lower the Rockies’ chances in each game to 60%, and assume the Dodgers have a 45% chance of winning tomorrow (a very conservative estimate), the chances of Friday meaning anything are 19.8%.

If I had to guess, I’d say somewhere between 10 -15%.
