Reporting from San Diego - The Dodgers are negotiating a long-term contract extension with General Manager Ned Colletti, a high-ranking club official said.
The Dodgers have reached the postseason three times in four years under Colletti, whose current deal includes a mutual option for 2010.

Was it you or MWhite who was adamant
that Ned would not be back?

I was saying that if they didn't offer a long term contract by now
They should just fire him and be done with it.
I am not happy at all they’re giving him a long term contract, but it is better than the keep him on a bunch of one year contract that forces Colletti to think he has to trade all the minor leauge talent he can to justify his job.

I said that Ned would be gone and Ng would become the GM
also meaning I thought White would be gone.
If Colleti is back one of Ng or White (or both) will be gone. The current situation is untenable, somebody will be interested in White and Ng and with Colleti getting a long term deal I expect both will be eager to hit the exits.
I assumed the McCourts know this too. You can’t keep all three of these players. To me, Colleti is the most replaceable and White is the toughest to replace. That being said, perhaps I read too much into the internet conjecture that Jamie was infatuated with the idea of having the first female GM, and when it came down to this point, I thought that Ng would get the nod.

I have absolutely no problem with this
Ned seems to do a decent job within the confines of what McParking gives him.
When you have a cost conscious owner, a guy who is good at looking at the bargain bin and pretty realistic on what he can and can’t get done isn’t that bad of a thing.
Besides, even with a long term contract, he still can get fired, he just gets to keep his cash.
Really, lets just hope that McParking decides to pay all of our young guys instead of replace them with Ned specials. I’m sure Ned or any other general manager wants to keep these guys, its really McParking’s call. If we do keep the young core, then some added Ned specials will make a good team.

Are you still happy with this move
if it means that Ng and/or White leave the organization as a result? That’s what I speculate will happen. I understand the status quo is pretty good (how could it not be with the recent Dodger sucess) but maintaing the status quo isn’t really an option. It’s cards on the table time for McCourt, and giving Colleti a long term deal means losing the other 2.
