I just introduced myself to Jerry Coleman, longtime Padres broadcaster (and one-time manager). I told him I lived in San Diego for 15 years, and he said, “you moved out of San Diego?” as he put he hand up to my forehead, jokingly taking my temperature. He is a very nice man.

Let the Ivan Dejesus era begin!

After the season is over, the Nationals are going to try to improve their middle infield defense. They would love to get second baseman Orlando Hudson if he becomes a free agent.

The Nats wanted Hudson last year, but balked when he failed their physical.

There is no news outside of Dylan Hernandez’s report yesterday. Nobody will go on record anyway, and I don’t have all the connections Hernandez has.

Let me just say, the song “Amazing” by Kanye West is many things, but amazing is not one of those things. One of the most over-produced pieces of crap ever recorded. Britney Spears is spinning in her grave when she hears that track.

by Eric Stephen on Sep 6, 2009 4:47 PM PDT reply actions

I love Kanye West

But yeah, that song (And most of the entire album he last produced) is over-produced.

by PHAT JULIO on Sep 6, 2009 4:51 PM PDT up reply actions

the songs decent but not that great at all
but id have to say britney spears, lady gaga, soulja boy, and lil wayne are the worst pieces of shit ive accidentally heard at public events…

Pretty funny comment by Jimmy Bramlett of LAist:

While in the dugout caught up in a conversation about college football, ESPN baseball broadcaster Joe Morgan (don’t laugh) taped an interview with Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier. I’m not going to spoil the interview or anything, but Ethier credited former Dodger insouciant Jeff Kent with something. I really wasn’t paying attention until I heard the key words Jeff Kent when my ears perked up. But this acknowledgement by Ethier means that Kent actually had a conversation with him! Maybe that should be breaking news on ESPN. Or are they still reporting on Brett Favre’s bowel movements?

Emphasis mine. That made me laugh.

A box of Kleenex with his number 26 written on it now hangs next to the picture. I’m still puzzled as to what it’s for.

Somebody didn’t see Eyechart cry after his pinch hit single. :)

I’m sitting next to a gentleman who is the stat guy for the ESPN2 broadcast. He’s in communication with the truck and the booth, providing info.

His scorebook goes to 15 innings. Pretty impressive.

by Eric Stephen on Sep 6, 2009 5:10 PM PDT reply actions

I've always been interested in the ESPN Statisticians.

Can you give us a little detail about his setup? Laptop? Cell phone? What he spends most of his time doing? etc?

by Yodasbrthr on Sep 6, 2009 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions

He has a headset on, and is keeping score and making a ton of notes. He has all the game notes, pre-highlighted, and a large notebook with his own notes. He has a box with two buttons, one to talk to the truck, and one to the booth, if they want info.
