Broxton Missing Bats On A Regular Basis
Jonathan Broxton picked up his 100th strikeout Monday, striking out Justin Upton to end the eighth inning. He now has 101 strikeouts on the season, leading all major league relievers. To put that total in perspective, there are 92 starters in the major leagues with enough innings to qualify for the ERA title, and Broxton has more strikeouts than 25 of them. Broxton's teammate, Jon Garland, has 89 strikeouts in 174.2 innings. Broxton has collected his 101 strikeouts in 66.2 innings, good for 13.64 strikeouts per nine innings.
Tonight's Diamondbacks' starter, Billy Buckner, whom the Dodgers beat last Thursday at Dodger Stadium, has allowed opposing hitters to hit .317/.380/.554 in his career, with 19 home runs in 413 plate appearances.
The Dodgers have hit 20 home runs in their last 14 games, tied with Colorado for the most in the National League during that time.
Manny Ramirez has four home runs in his last nine games, including one off Buckner last week.
You do the math.
Here are tonight's lineups. Casey Blake is still out with a sore hamstring:

First!
To say that Eric is sure pumping out a lot of talking points on TBLA today. Wasn’t “labor day” yesterday!? :)
Keep up the good work. TBLA is now my first stop for all that is Dodgers.
vr, Xei
looks like Ben Walker at the AP sniped your piece from earlier : )

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Casey Blake has had to go rogue these past few days to prepare the Stretch Run Beard!!! which will be able to simultaneously fling more insults at Brian Wilson than Don Rickles on a three day bender, increase the size of Bruce Bochy’s head so that it’s gravitational pull will cause more structural damage to the Bay Area Bridge, cause Bengie Molina to run away in fear faster than Usian Bolt, inspire Pablo Sandoval to begin a 5 month hunger strike, and incite Brad Penny into the Mother of of All Hissy Fits™!!!

Stating the obvious here, but Chad needs a good outing tonight. I think his confidence is somewhat shaken. And he’s looked a bit pouty in the dugout lately. Turn it around big man, starting tonight! We’ve got to have your best in the post-season.
So is that
Rumor about Penny getting into a Bar fight with Tim Lincecum true? Sounds completely bogus but funny.
I was unaware that Giants fans were literate.
This throws my entire worldview into question.
Couple of notes
from the KABC pregame show:
Torre didn’t get a new report on Blake today, and that’s why he’s still out, but he could be back in the lineup some time soon.
Kershaw asked “Do I have to miss a start?” and Torre said yes, but was encouraged by that
Just keep him away from
the outfield, the outfield wall, and Jason Repko, and he should be safe.

Eric tempting fate again. ;) Last time he called a pitcher “terrible” things didn’t go so well for us.
My head will already be on a platter for declaring the division over in late June…why not go out in a blaze of glory? :)
Also, I can’t wait for the Padres’ top draft pick, Donovan Tate, to make the majors, so I can make “tempting fate” jokes galore because of this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137156/ (don’t ask me why I sat through this TV movie)
I think you were right then
and I still do. It really is amazing to me that we have two legitimate contenders for the NL West crown left at this time (in addition to the Dodgers). Back in June, my reasoning was that Col and SF had such significant problems that they could just not sustain a win rate sufficient to match even a significant collapse by the Dodgers. The Dodgers “collapse” came (though we are still playing very well) and things are not at all like I expected them to be.
