Randy Wolf To Miss Friday Start
From Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts:
Randy Wolf, who has emerged as a stalwart of the Dodger rotation, had been scheduled to pitch Friday against San Francisco but now will miss that start with an irritated elbow, according to a note I just received from Dodger beat writer Dylan Hernandez of The Times. Hiroki Kuroda will make that start on four days' rest, followed by Vicente Padilla on Saturday and Chad Billingsley on Sunday.
Bad news for the Dodgers, as Wolf has really been the most dependable starting pitcher on the staff. Clayton Kershaw was originally scheduled to start Friday, but was scratched on Monday because of a Sunday collision with the outfield wall during batting practice. Now Wolf is out. If I were Hiroki Kuroda, I'd be looking over my shoulder.
That Jon Garland acquisition is looking better and better by the minute.

Some would suggest
That the Dodgers had adequate depth to sustain these little bumps and bruises but I am sure for Torre and company, they feel more comfortable with Padilla and Garland instead of Stults and Haegar.
Depends on the cost
I am not sure the difference between Garland and Haegar is worth Abreu. But that is not a done deal yet, so we’ll see.
I’m wondering if this Friday is becoming like that Sunday game at home against Atlanta:
first Elbert was announced, then he pitched in relief.
then Weaver was announced, and he warmed up inrelief
then Stults was called up, and made just one start.
I'm not sure why we would start Kuroda
when we can call up Heagar. I’d rather see Haegar and give Kuroda the rest.
i dont think torre trusts haegar enough
for a big game vs the giants…
you can forget about stultz starting on friday
hes pitching for alberqurque right now and the first 3 batters have got a hit against him in the playoff game…
right
I didn’t think he was/is an option, just that this Friday was similar to that Sunday in that the first two announced starters went by the wayside pretty quickly.
quick quick- what do Craig Biggio and Robin Yount have in common?
Answer: They both have more hits for their respecitve franchises than Derek Jeter has for his! I know, I know- the Yankees are the most storied franchise in baseball history, and certainly a bit more so than the Astros and Brewers (just as Lou Gehrig surely is 1000x more storied than the fine gentlemen that Biggio and Yount passed, whomever they may be). But as is their way, but the national media…with ESPN, as always, leading the charge…is manipulating and over-hyping the story to the point where the average sports fan (the real-life versions of the Onion’s “man on the street” sports fan that mistook Andre Ethier for Rafael Furcal) will think “Yankees are the greatest” plus “Jeter has most hits as a Yankee” equals “The Greatest Record Ever To Be Broken”. Incredibly annoying, but comical as well.
This, of course, is just background noise. The REAL story will be if we get to see Derek Jeter at Dodger Stadium this October!
Clayton Kershaw told Rick Monday on the pregame show that he was doing his usual “power shagging” when he hit the wall shagging flies.

is kershaws injury
serious at all? might it have an effect on him maybe?? maybe a rick ankiiel?
Also per the pregame show, Chad Billingsley had a “closed door meeting” with Torre and Rick Honeycutt today.
Maybe it was something like the classic “Sermon on the Mound” with Lasorda and Hershiser in 1983. :)
Let's hope the results are similar
(though that they don’t lead to him ending his career prematurely by throwing his arm off).
people are overreacting to bills struggles
to me it seems like hes expirementing with his pitches…
hes seen which pitches he should throw more and less… like one game it seems like he uses his cutter 50 percent of the time, then he uses his curve many times one game then a seamer a lot… then one game he tries to throw 4 seamers a lot… has anyone else noticed this?
Gurnick's article on Wolf
is up. Also mentions Kershaw recovery and Billingsley’s meeting, plus other injury reports.
But during a bullpen session before Tuesday night’s game in Arizona, Wolf felt stiffness and tried to compensate by changing his mechanics, at which point the decision was made to send him to Los Angeles for an exam. Dr. Neal ElAttrache administered a cortisone injection Wednesday to calm “irritation,” according to trainer Stan Conte. The discomfort is not in the area of the Tommy John operation Wolf underwent in 2005. “It was a little tight, not a lot of pain,” Conte said. “It doesn’t seem really serious.”
“He’s fine,” Torre said. “We talked for a long time to make sure nothing was bothering him physically. Right now, he just needs a good outing.” Torre said he believes Billingsley’s drop in velocity is the result of “trying to be too careful” and not injury. He said he admires a player who wants to fight through an injury, but not at the expense of the club.
billingsley has dropped velocity??
since when? he was throwing 94 2 games ago
