Poor guy

you wait until you are 30 to get meaningful major league at bats and instead of the hero you are the goat. I’m sure that is not how he dreamed his first postseason series to turn out.

Yep.

You gotta feel for him. I really hope Cox said something nice about him, even though he probably cost Cox his last chance at a title.

I think it’s cool that White drafted a control specialist w/stuff to match. Very rare for our system.

by silverwidow on Oct 11, 2010 3:55 PM PDT reply actions

Very Cool

I like White’s draft philosophy on pitchers.

He basically says there are hundreds of people who pitch 90, but only a handful that pitch a good breaking ball, who he drafts. Great Lakes is going to be fun to watch again next season.

That's the point where you guys can agree.

The whole reason why Lee was signed was that it was a thin draft, n’est-ce pas? There was nobody that White felt was worth the draft money, so they reached and picked Lee and were able to find a number he’d agree to.

How much credit do you give to White for that? Nobody denies his talent — it was his signability that anyone questioned.

In a vacuum, it would have been nice to see what Kershaw billingsley and a properly developed Hochevar could do. But, that’s a slippery slope. Price, Kershaw, billingsley, Hochevar would have been filthy.

It was too close to the call the guy safe…it usually has to be blatant for them to call the guy going into 2nd safe…even on replay its hard to tell if the toes are off the bag.

   1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)

   3. Record of the tied teams within the division.
   4. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
   5. Overall record vs. non-division teams.

   7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
   8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. Go Phillies

It hurts to say that.

And Keith, the only answer to your dilemma is fly to San Francisco, find the Giants offices, and drop an upper decker. It may not solve the problem at your office but man it will feel good.

White Interviewing with the Mets

Tony Jackson is reporting that White will be interviewing with the Mets on Friday. What do you think the chances are that he goes to the Mets? Can’t decide which is worse being with the dysfunctional Dodgers or the crazy Mets.

by wineracquet on Oct 12, 2010 12:20 AM PDT reply actions

I think the Mets are dense enough where the odds are they don't hire him

Sounds like Alderson is the favorite? Anyway, we’ll see.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.

Mark Timmons of LAdodgertalk says Zach Lee can be a 2011 September call up. Eric, easy money here.

Actual quote

I have been told that Zach Lee could pitch in Dodger Stadium as early as NEXT SEASON!

Does pitching during a workout count

If Lee is part of their prospect group in January, that will be a sign.

I didn’t realize that Zach Lee is going to pitch in the UCLA-USC games at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers tied for 3rd for most players on BA Top 20 League Prospects list

Rangers 18
Rays 15
Dodgers 14
Mariners 14
Red Sox 14
Rockies 14
Yankees 14
Blue Jays 13
Royals 12
Angels 11
Braves 11
Diamondbacks 11
Giants 11
Padres 11
Phillies 10
Pirates 10
Reds 10
Astros 9
Twins 8
White Sox 8
Mets 7
Brewers 6
Cubs 6
Indians 6
Marlins 6
Tigers 6
Cardinals 5
Nationals 5
Athletics 4
Orioles 4

It’s not a perfect way to evaluate a farm system, but there’s a correlation between the number of Top 20 Prospects and the strength of an organization. Most of the leaders on that list are going to rank near the top of our offseason farm system ratings.

Dodger prospects breakdown by Draft Class

2010 – 4 (Cash, Landry, Baldwin, Lemmerman)
2009 – 2 (Miller, Gould)
2008 – 5 (Martin, Russell, Gordon, Webster, Sands)
2007 – 1 (Withrow)
2005 – 1 (Robinson)
Dominican Signee – 2007 (De la Rosa)

Thanks

The story is going to be fairly deep system, lack of blue chip prospects. Zach Lee is first in that line, with some of last surprises (Sands, Rubby) needing to hang on and some of the disappointments (Martin, Withrow) needing to step it up.

I’m relatively happy with our farm system, but it’s hard to get too excited knowing the Nedocracy we all live under.

If had to pick the Dodgers who might make a top 100 prospect list

I would pick Zach Lee, Gordon, Webster, Sands and maybe Robinson.

by bhsportsguy on Oct 12, 2010 2:20 AM PDT reply actions

And Rubby and Jansen

are probably better then all of them.
