Poor guy
you wait until you are 30 to get meaningful major league at bats and instead of the hero you are the goat. I’m sure that is not how he dreamed his first postseason series to turn out.
Yep.
You gotta feel for him. I really hope Cox said something nice about him, even though he probably cost Cox his last chance at a title.

Cool
I’d like to think we’d do the same. Makes it easier since no Brave fan really thinks they can beat the Phillies anyway.
I think about a half dozen people would, the rest would be oblivious to what happened the day before and are excited by the new patriotic decorations hanging all over the field. Said fans can’t wait for the last third of the game so they can hear GBA and DSB.

Lee
I think it’s cool that White drafted a control specialist w/stuff to match. Very rare for our system.
I think it is cool we signed him when no one thought we could
may have been the highlight of our summer
Very Cool
I like White’s draft philosophy on pitchers.
He basically says there are hundreds of people who pitch 90, but only a handful that pitch a good breaking ball, who he drafts. Great Lakes is going to be fun to watch again next season.

Wait
this is the same guy who drafted Gould in 2008 and Elbert in 2004. I understand that folks are happy about Lee but there is no certainly Lee will be any better than the other pitchers he has drafted.
Yes there is, because the threshold is quite low
at this point he simply needs to make it to the major leagues:)

That's the point where you guys can agree.
The whole reason why Lee was signed was that it was a thin draft, n’est-ce pas? There was nobody that White felt was worth the draft money, so they reached and picked Lee and were able to find a number he’d agree to.
How much credit do you give to White for that? Nobody denies his talent — it was his signability that anyone questioned.

I'm ok with the strategy
since they made an actual attempt to sign him. If they hadn’t it would be harder justifying the punt, but maybe still the right thing.

I’m actually really excited by Gould. I wish we had signed and developed Hochevar instead of letting him go. The Royals jacked him up by rushing him to the majors.

Hochevar went first in 2006
KC probably picks Miller, Detroit would have picked Kershaw if Miller wasn’t there
Yeah, makes sense with this reasoning.
In a vacuum, it would have been nice to see what Kershaw billingsley and a properly developed Hochevar could do. But, that’s a slippery slope. Price, Kershaw, billingsley, Hochevar would have been filthy.
Poison kills 80 children in Uganda. Damn you, Brett Michaels! Damn you!
KC #1 picks since 2006:
2007: #2 Mike Moustakas
2008: #3 Eric Hosmer
2009: #12 Aaron Crow
2010: #4 Christian Colon
Average draft position: 5.25
2006 record: 62-100

They are wasting Greinke and Butler and it sucks to watch.
They’ve had a lot more top picks than most teams.

Disgruntled Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez has been fined $50,000 by the NBA because of his agent’s recent public request that the Spaniard be released from his contract. Fernandez had already been fined $25,000 in August for a public trade request.

Speaking of that
I’ve been watching like a hawk and every runner who is scoring is jogging home when they know there is no play at the plate even when the guy who got the hit could be thrown out at at 2nd or 3rd negating the run. Every time.
I noticed that too
If this were the Dodgers you would definitely not hear the end of that.

I know it hasnt been that long of time…but I cant even remember Derek Lowe pitching for the Dodgers…
The only thing I remember from Derek Lowe’s years here was that he hooked up with a TV reporter and left his wife/kids.
That's kinda sad, since he was with Dodgers for a while and pitched really solid
the whole time. I agreed with their decision to not resign him thinking he’d be too expensive and long term given his age but part of me wishes they had.

I am speaking to the cable company in my town now. We are discussing money now. I have been with Direct TV for about 3 years and they get over $100.00 per month. Never close to being late or asked for any change. I have gotten 7 phone calls in like 3 weeks.

I’ve had Directv for 3 years also and the only thing that could get me to switch is that usually local cable has better deals on TV plus internet deals…
Directv offers internet but its way more expensive than comcast for instance.

I already get my internet from the cable company. The place here is called Conway Corporation. They send you a monthly bill, it has trash, power, water, internet, phone, and cable all in one bill. I don’t have the phone or cable.

Three or more-team procedure
1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)
2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
3. Record of the tied teams within the division.
4. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
5. Overall record vs. non-division teams.
6. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

but short of that am holding my nose and rooting for the Phillies. (ugh, painful) I kind of loathe them, but loathe the Giants even more, for a much longer period of time. And live in SF. So eff ’em.

You are at work, and there is no cleaning crew present, and the toilet is stopped up because of too much tp in it.
There is a plunger beside the toilet. Do you a) plunge the toilet; b) use the other toilet and not say anything; c) go tell the boss?
ugh
had that problem today
but no plunger. I was free of all responsibility

Giants
I’m tired of the Phillies in the World Series and I’m really hoping that the Rangers or Rays can make it to the WS so I have huge rooting interest.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
You'd rather root against the Giants in the world series...
Than not care about the World Series if it was Phillies- Yankees?
I could get behind that…but you are still conceding a NL Pennant to the Giants…and they’d have that over the Dodgers.
Yes
but a World Series loss is much more painful. Losing in 74, 77, 78 was much worse then losing to the Phillies in 08/09.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
True…I guess the Giants do have the “NL Pennant” thing over the Dodgers right now since they got there in 2002…but since they lost no one ever cares.
I don’t get this “having something over the Dodgers” logic. You mean Giants fans right, Giants fans feeling superior to the Dodger fan base?
by Josie Becker on Oct 11, 2010 8:22 PM PDT up reply actions
but having a Yankees/Giants world series doesn’t give you a rooting interest anyway. in fact, i think that’s probably a Dodger fan’s World Series nightmare
I dont think most Dodger fans hate the Yankees..I’m ambivalent about the Yankees. In fact, they spend so much money that if they dont win, its a disappointment. And if they do win, its what they should be expected to do.
True
I wanted them to win last year, because I hate the Phillies. If they make the series this year, i will probably just be indiffent to the outcome.

by Tommy Blackjack on Oct 11, 2010 8:39 PM PDT up reply actions
I would bet yes.
But the thing of it is, they are more upset that Aubbie is undefeated and talking shit than they are about losing. Losing blows, no doubt. But they had to know it was a matter of time. Too many talented teams they go up against every year. They won like 20 in a row in the conference.
Nah. We still control our own destiny.
Win out and get back to Atlanta. However, we are a really banged up football team and all the remaining teams on our schedule have a week off before they play us. Pretty convenient.
I was just referring to the dynamic between Bama and auburn fans. They’ve been talking a lot of shit since Saturday. Nevermind they almost lost to a crappy Kentucky team. Winning 19 games in a row was one hell of a ride and we knew it couldn’t last forever.

White Interviewing with the Mets
Tony Jackson is reporting that White will be interviewing with the Mets on Friday. What do you think the chances are that he goes to the Mets? Can’t decide which is worse being with the dysfunctional Dodgers or the crazy Mets.
I think the Mets are dense enough where the odds are they don't hire him

It’s not a perfect way to evaluate a farm system, but there’s a correlation between the number of Top 20 Prospects and the strength of an organization. Most of the leaders on that list are going to rank near the top of our offseason farm system ratings.
Dodger prospects breakdown by Draft Class
2010 – 4 (Cash, Landry, Baldwin, Lemmerman)
2009 – 2 (Miller, Gould)
2008 – 5 (Martin, Russell, Gordon, Webster, Sands)
2007 – 1 (Withrow)
2005 – 1 (Robinson)
Dominican Signee – 2007 (De la Rosa)
Thanks
The story is going to be fairly deep system, lack of blue chip prospects. Zach Lee is first in that line, with some of last surprises (Sands, Rubby) needing to hang on and some of the disappointments (Martin, Withrow) needing to step it up.
I’m relatively happy with our farm system, but it’s hard to get too excited knowing the Nedocracy we all live under.
If had to pick the Dodgers who might make a top 100 prospect list
I would pick Zach Lee, Gordon, Webster, Sands and maybe Robinson.
