Keith Law on #1 Pick Zach Lee
Here is what ESPN's Keith Law had to say about Zach Lee after attending some instructional leagues games last week:
A scout who saw right-hander Zach Lee the day before I was there said it was one of the cleanest deliveries he'd ever seen on a pitcher that young while also praising Lee's fastball command. I have a feeling that pick will turn out to be the steal of the first-round, and I know at least one club that was disappointed to see him sign after they'd discussed comparable money with him prior to the draft, only to have him turn it down.
and this on Garret Gould and Scott Elbert:
I saw two disappointing Dodgers arms, although they had better ones on their instructional league roster. Garrett Gould was still stuck at 86-88, which is where he was when I saw him in March, and his 76-78 mph curveball doesn't have the same bite it did when I saw him as an amateur. Left-hander Scott Elbert was mostly 88-90, touching 92 once, with a very early-breaking slider at 83-84.

Bad news on Gould. Couldn’t be happier about Lee though. Hopefully this year at 16 we can snag another Clayton Kershaw (yes, I realize how generationally rare guys like him are) and we can look at a serious rotation of Kershaw, billingsley, Rubby, Lee, Player X.
Otherwise, it sure would be exciting to see someone homegrown with some power on the team.
Poison kills 80 children in Uganda. Damn you, Brett Michaels! Damn you!
More disappointed with Elbert’s report. At least with Gould there’s time, I expected Elbert would be at least a bullpen guy.
Considering he had not pitched
all summer, could he simply be getting his arm into pitching shape for the AFL? We will know soon enough, it was my understanding he was battling tendonitis this summer in Arizona, so he may still be working through that.
