well, my boss is away on vacation . . .
so, if I can get a ticket, i’d go to the game. Not sure about everybody else though
So, if you get to go to the game. Are going to be just observing as a baseball fan, or actually risking life and limb and pulling for the Phillies?
or root for the Expos, confusing everyone

That’d be him.
I was going to use a “Dodger SF is screaming at the top of her lungs, mad at the world, bc they didn’t use Casey Candale as a pinch hitter” reference.
But oh well.

At this point, i cheer for players I like
As I don’t like anyone on the Giants team, my choice is easy: i will cheer for Cole Hamels because he’s hot now that he’s sporting some facial scruff.

Based on information compiled from various sources, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity because Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti wants to announce the entire staff at one time once it’s finalized, it appears that Jeff Pentland is the front-runner to become the hitting coach, that pitching coach Rick Honeycutt and Ken Howell will return and that Larry Bowa, the team’s third-base coach for the past three seasons under Joe Torre, won’t be back.
good news everybody!

Question
Who are the top 5 starting pitchers in Dodger franchise history?
I tend to list them as Drysdale, Koufax, Sutton, Hershiser, Fernando.
But, I’m not here to ask about the list.
My question is, IF Fernando is #5, in all his 173 victory glory, would the next great Dodgers pitcher need to beat that number to pass him on this list? More importantly, even if said pitcher does pass his win total, would he need to throw a no-hitter to gain the appropriate acclaim with Dodger fans?
Poison kills 80 children in Uganda. Damn you, Brett Michaels! Damn you!
You’d have to be pretty damn good/special/unique to surpass the level of acclaim Dodger fans have for Fernando.
by Eric Stephen on Oct 18, 2010 4:47 PM PDT up reply actions
As good as Hershiser is
Dazzy Vance would rank above him as one of the top 5 best pitchers in Dodger history.

I asked the autographed baseball question earlier because of an ad I heard on the radio for a baseball autographed by Brett Gardner.
I was shocked at the price. It’s not stupid high, but it is high.
I could see a Kershaw ball going for 2-3 hundred. It’s not a question of if the average person will pay that, it’s if one guy with a lot of disposable income.

This is a big problem. I would pitch CC in Game 4. But, Phil Hughes on three days rest in Game 5?
No way. So, you have to start Burnett anyway. Might as well be tomorrow.

Probably not
Because you are still out of whack in Games 5-6 anyway.
by Eric Stephen on Oct 18, 2010 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions
Do it
and pitch Burnett in game 5. CC has shown he can be good on 3 days rest. Or can he still pitch 7 somehow if he pitches 5?

So fuck pitch him in game 4
let burnett fuck it up in game 5, and then go to whomever for 6 and then the Big Fella for 7.

I'm OK with wanting CC for games 4 & 7
but you are essentially sacrificing Pettitte, who is probably their second best starter right now. CC in 4 & 7 means AJB in Game 5 and Hughes in Game 6. Pettitte could be available in relief on short rest in Game 6 I suppose, but it seems that’s an awful lot of shifting for a tinier gain.

all true

Burnett and Hughes are givens in the next 3 games IMO, regardless of when CC pitches. So, the choice becomes:
CC on short rest twice
OR
CC on regular rest + Pettitte on regular rest
The wild card would be starting Pettitte in Game 6 on short rest, but that is in place of Hughes, not Burnett, so again we are talking about minimal gain.
I would be probably inclined to pitch CC on short rest twice, just to ride the horse, and let the rest fall where they may, but it’s certainly a tough call.
by Eric Stephen on Oct 18, 2010 8:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah
I wouldn’t be comfy with pettite on short rest, but You are paying sabbathia a billionty dollars, might as well takee advantage.

Piece in KC paper on Greinke
Might have been posted here earlier but MLBTR just alerted me to it now
http://www.kansascity.com/2010/10/18/2327055/royals-notes-sure-greinke-is-available.html
Greinke’s contract contains a partial no-trade clause, which permits him to block a trade to specific clubs without his approval. Such clauses typically allow a player to specify eight to 10 clubs.
Greinke must notify the Royals of his list following the World Series.
