Matt Kemp Has Enjoyed Diamondbacks Pitching This Season
In their penultimate game of the season, Jamey Carroll takes the managerial reins, as the Dodgers and Diamondbacks do battle at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers have hit 18 home runs against Arizona this season in 16 games, and Matt Kemp has seven of them. Kemp, who has homered in each of his last three games, is hitting .313/.365/.672 with 17 runs and 15 RBI in 16 games against the Diamondbacks this season.
On the other end of the spectrum, A.J. Ellis, who has reached base 27 times in his last 49 plate appearances, has just one hit and three walks in 19 PA against Arizona this season.
Chad Billingsley is coming off a career-high-tying 13 strikeouts against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, and in his last three starts against Arizona has been great: 21 innings, six runs (2.57 ERA), two walks, and 32 strikeouts.
Billingsley's mound opponent Sunday was Joe Saunders, who allowed two runs in five innings, walking two while striking out six. Saunders gets the start again today.
Gerardo Parra, who started in right field last night for the Diamondbacks, is 0-for-14 this season at Dodger Stadium.

Why does FOX put a letterbox on their sporting events? I’m sure it’s not noticeable in HD.
that’s so people with widescreen tv’s but no HD feed can stretch the picture to fit their screen without losing anything.
widescreen tv and no hd?

Still this is fox

Just got 2 loge seats for 7 bucks each
and I paid 4.95 for the “delivery charge” and 5.00 for the service fee. Wtf, lol.
Either way, glad I get to see one last game :)
Is parking still 15 bucks?

Yeah it's great, I just didn't realize stubhub would cost as much in fees as the seats cost, lol

I can make fun of the Keys to the Game for being overly simple. I don’t even know what they’re talking about this time
I missed that but if it listed "Being patient at the plate"
they’re asking ‘em for too much there. I loved seeing Zito’s 33 p inning followed by the 9 pitch inning for Stauffer. Keep it up!

be the itch was a press box offhand comment gone mad. I can see someone, seeing the Padres-Giants season record, and going, “the Padres are like an itch the Giants just can’t scratch”. So it’s an asinine version of “Win this game like those other games you won” that we’ve seen before.
Party Time, well there’s champagne in the dugout so it’s a version of “win this game”
So the key for each team is to win the game. Fucking genius, and it took me three paragraphs to explain it
Turned on radio in time to hear Mike Krukow's brilliant "grab some pine meat"
catch phrase on 2nd strikeout. Always funny. Not.

he isn't grabbing "pine meat"
he is meat, and he is being told to grab pine. Make sense?

I remember two years ago when I lived in Sonoma
going around to Giants on my college team who were Giants fans asking if their team slogan was “Zito and Cain then pray for rain”. I soon saw Lincecum and Zito pitch. I have not been able to come up with something of Lincecum and Cain fame. I thought about going with “Lincecum and Cain but you’re still the Giants”.

Rival executives have been monitoring the Dodgers’ situation all year, processing the unrest between Matt Kemp and members of the team’s field staff, wondering if this would mean that general manager Ned Colletti would feel compelled to move one of the most dynamic talents in a trade this winter.

Were I a player and knew for certain a McCourt would be in the Dodgers ownership plans,
I would instruct my agent ot get me out of that situation ASAP.

Correct we if I’m wrong, but if the Padres hold their lead and win today and the Phillies hold on to beat the Braves today, and the Padres and Braves both win tomorrow, then the Padres, Giants, and Braves will all finish at 91-71. Someone smarter than me, what happens then?
Giants play at SD for the NL West, loser then plays ATL for the WC.

Padres have a big advantage tomorrow with the Braves-Phillies likely finishing before they even start the game.
If the Braves lose, then the Padres will have much less pressure on them.
SF wins and ATL wins:
Giants win N.L West and Braves win wild card
SD wins and ATL wins:
Giants at Padres Monday for the N.L West. Loser goes to Atlanta and plays Tuesday for the NL Wild Card.
SD wins and ATL loses:
Padres win the NL West and Giants take the wild card. Both would be in the playoffs so a tiebreaker would be unnecessary. Padres have won the season series so they would get the #2 seed. Giants #4.

SBN needs a way to remove blogs from your myblogs list. Getting banned didn’t have the intended effect
Torre Quote
Just read the quote about Broxton and it is terrible, if he felt that way, where was the pitching coaching staff to help him. I am beginning to wonder if Torre has any reason to make these statements is it to help or hinder Mattingly.
Quote is from the LA Times Story by Dylan
But Torre said he believed Broxton’s issues were psychological and that his decline had nothing to do with his usage in the Yankees series. Torre added that at some point, Broxton would have to do some soul-searching if he intended to regain his form. “There are some scrambled eggs up there,” Torre said, referring to Broxton’s head.
And Torre is the one who keeps on sending him out there.
I don’t see why its so hard to believe Torre had some effect on Broxton inability to pitch effectively.
There's nothing revelatory or inflammatory about the quote
For most of the second half Torre has praised Broxton, saying to the effect of “he’s been great and will be again” and that he has confidence in him to regain his form, eventually.
But he has also said that it’s simply something Broxton has to get through mentally, by performing better. A few weeks back, Torre noted that Broxton was tensing up, literally, in his delivery, and not letting his wrist be loose and it was affecting his control. That is more of the tangible mental stuff Torre is talking about.
Agree but then Torre has to do something
Agreed with you about some of Torre’s earlier comments, but this comment about tensing up and not letting his wrist be loose, then this is a mechanical flaw that needs to be worked out. Perhaps he should have brought him in early in a game to see if he could work it out.
Someone is going to be an all-time Top Ten Blown Playoffs odds "winner"
Braves Playoff odds on 9/2/10 – 97.375%
Padres Playoff odds on 8/26/10 – 96.706%
Giants Playoff odds on 10/1/10 – 96.737%
I’m rooting for the Giants to collapse, for all the obvious reasons, but also because that record would be a difficult one to top. Sure the Braves had a higher probability, but the Giants at almost 97% barely two days before the end of the season?

A couple of notes
Furcal isn’t playing this weekend because he’s hitting .301, and Torre wants him to finish with a .300 season. Torre and Mattingly talked to Furcal and cleared it with him. Furcal might get one PH AB today or tomorrow (he can go 0-for-1 and still hit .300)
Lindsey is the hitting coach tonight. Ausmus is the bench coach. Martin is the “special assistant to the bench coach.”
I will
I have been moving around a bit doing some SBN LA stuff, and they have been making the rounds in the dugout and around the stadium with Logan White. If I get a chance to interview them, I will.
