Best pitchers 25 and under?
Bleacher Report recently listed their top 12 pitchers under 25:
12) Phil Hughes
11) Brian Matusz
10) Ricky Romero
09) Jaime Garcia
08) Tommy Hanson
07) Gio Gonzalez
06) Trevor Cahill
05) Yovani Gallardo
04) Clayton Kershaw
03) Mat Latos
02) David Price
01) Felix Hernandez
For reference I created a list of pitchers from 2007 - 2010 who had an ERA+ of at least 100. I removed all the pitchers who are now over 25. This list only shows pitchers 25 and younger at the end of the year. This would be my top ten list, what is yours and why?
1. Felix Hernandez
2. Clayton Kershaw
3. Brett Anderson
4. Yovani Gallardo
5. Tommy Hanson
6. Mat Latos
7, David Price
9. Matt Cain
10. Max Scherzer
Bumgarner, Cahill, Matusz, Chacin, and Garcia are all exciting young pitchers but can they repeat their success? The best of the debut pitchers this year was Matt Latos so he makes the list but I'm wary. David Price seems to be way overrated, a good young pitcher but is he really in the Kersahw/Anderson class behind the King? On the surface Buchholz looked to be the king of the class in 2010, but his 3.60 FIP and 4.20 xFIP keeps him off the list. At 25 he's had only this one good year at age 25. Many of the players on this list have been good pitchers since the age of 22.

Just want to say to Eric
that any player who was the starting 2nd baseman in AAA has a very good chance of playing a meaningful role the following season simply because of injury. DeJesus may not be in the Dodger plans in Sept, but if he does have a strong AFL, followed by a strong spring, more then likely he would be given the first shot if whoever is the starting 2nd baseman comes up lame.
That said no way will Ned count on him to be the starting 2nd baseman this winter. That said I would not be surprised if DeJesus does manage to play a meaningful role with the Dodgers in 2011.
I was too harsh with my comment. Agreed

Quite a downward spiral he is in
Ballyhooed American born manager wowing the Pacific, comes back as a hero to the KC Royals and proceeds to provide Joe P with plenty of ammunition while making even KC fans realize he was incompetent. Now whispered to be a candidate to become a bench coach to a guy who has never managed.
Yah. tho he had too good a reputation as a smart coach
to suddenly be incompetent in general. he may have been a poor manager (on a poor team) but could still be a good bench coach. you want someone with some experience for that role at least… but not Larry Bowa. :-)

really
you don’t think 99% of the posters here couldn’t be a bench coach. Hey, Donnie you better start warming up Kuo. Hey, Donnie, dont turn around when Loney asks you a question, just keep on walking. Hey, Donnie you got the pitcher batting 4th, you might want to change that. Hey, Donnie looks like Ellis should be bunting here. Hey, Donnie do you want me to tell Kemp to take a fucking lead?
No, I don't think 99% of the posters here could be a bench coach
and I think an inexperienced manager could use someone to give him an assist once in awhile. Or remind him not to double dosey-do at the pitcher’s mound. ;-)

Not necessarily.
If they go to the playoffs three straight years, go to the NLCS in all of them, and the WS twice, and win it once — then I don’t really have a problem calling them a great team.

ERA+ is just as poor as using plain old ERA unfortunately
According to ERA+ Kershaw was only 32 percent better than league average this year, but Kershaw was one of the top 15 or so pitchers in baseball, so that doesn’t seem right to me. That’s even with the pitching dominant year this year.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
Kerhsaws 132 ERA+ was 17th in baseball.

Well that DOES line up…I still think he was better than 32 percent better than the league average. Still glad to see that though, I had no idea.
Problem is, Buchholz was in the 170s…that tells you right there what to think about that stat, lol.
"If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate"
He’s got his fastball back though.
He was struggling earlier in the year (and in the minors) when his velocity was down.
lol
u know whats funny about that…. bumgarner was struggling… for him, struggling is putting up a 3.16 ERA as a 20 year old in AAA… struggling is putting up a 1.8 ERA in AA as a 19 year old with only a 5.8 K/9
struggling for him is not having all his velocity this year in the majors, but still putting up a 3.00 ERA in over 100 innings… this guy is wierd as hell
he still does
its the reason why hes so effective and freakin wierd…. who else throws like that??
its violent when he throws the fastbal
he slows his delivery down when throwing offspeed pitches making the whip look less

If there was any controversy
It was that they signed Molina at all to block Posey.
This was the contention of the Phillies announcers.
That many “Baseball Men” didn’t like the pick because of Molina.
I thought it was stupid.
Bengie Molina signed as a 32 year old in 2007 on a three year deal to cover the 2007, 2008 and 2009 season, and then re-signed on a one year deal. Buster Posey was drafted in 08. You would basically have to think the Giatns wanted to extend Molina’s contract by another 2 or 3 years to think that Molina had such a foothold on the catching position.

Eric
I got two commercials you should include for part 2
That car commercial where the kid is “racing” the other kids home. I think it was originally those kids were about to beat his ass, but it didn’t test well.
and also, that Geico commerical where that lady freaks out on the Gecko. It should have ended with the Gecko looking at his boss and saying, “Actually, I told her my name was Stanley.” Then smile and nod like, “Crazy bitch.”

The Colts are screwed. They have reportedly lost Clark, Addai and Collie for weeks/months, depending on the injury.
But I guess you can never doubt Peyton. Alas.
Their punter was suspended for a game last night too.
Public Intox…police found him soaking wet on a street corner at 430 am…he had been so drunk he decided to swim in a sewage canal.
Yeah, its insane.
I guess he was drunk and walking home…but he got disoriented and approached a woman’s car that was stopped at a red light. The woman thought he was going to try to get into the car so she ran the red light and called the police on him. The police found him sitting on a street corner, shirtless, in 45 degree weather. And he was soaking wet from swimming in the canal. All by himself. No one else was with him. The police report is on the IndyStar newspaper site.
GUYS. I HAVE A VERY, VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM.
I have $20 in itunes money.
Major League is not available to buy, only to rent. Do i buy two of Hot Fuzz, Die Hard, and Tropic Thunder, or just one of the three and hold out hope for Major League becoming available later?
seriously?
I loved Hot Fuzz, but i gotta agree with Eric here.

It was a good movie
Good-ish anyway.

Just get these two now, and worry about the $10 for Major League later.

I don't think it would work today.
The exact same movie shot in the 2000’s would just be corny. Major League gets away with it because it was made in the 80’s.

It's so kick ass that Kershaw has the best OPS+ against on the list
My list would be:
1. Felix
2. Kershaw
3. Gallardo
4. Anderson
5. Price
6. Latos
7. Romero
8. Billingsley
9. Hanson
10. Cain
It’s so great, though, because there are so many players I wanted to put on the list but couldnt and it shows just how many great young pitchers there are today.
