How is the #2 prospect going to work? The runner-up to the members’ #1 poll?

Upto Brandon

he can either make the runner up the number two prospect or start a new poll.

I'm inclined to do a new poll

especailly since it would only be the #2 prospect. if it was getting to #11 or #12, i might just have used the runner up.

It would be funny if Kenley keeps winning the original poll

by a light margin but loses in each runoff until he doesn’t make the top 15

Well I absolutely do need my gin refreshed, thank you!

But if there’s one thing that is clear from today’s polling and discussion, it is that the Dodgers do not have a clear #1 choice. They all have major question marks or, in Jansen’s case, a low ceiling. The chickens that are the lack of investment in the system are coming home to roost.

Random trade thought....

Tampa Bay ‘supposedly’ has a starter on the market (most likely Garza or Shields). Tampa Bay is also losing key parts of their bullpen so I assume they would want Jansen to start any return. What else would the Dodgers have to include and is this a deal people would do?

by abru3 on Oct 26, 2010 5:40 PM PDT reply actions

I’d include Jansen only in a trade for Garza.

by silverwidow on Oct 26, 2010 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions

No I wouldn’t trade Jansen and prospects for Garza or Shields

by Dodgermanramon on Oct 26, 2010 5:45 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

No

and btw, while I’m in the court of people who realize that as good as some relievers are for a period of time they are generally over valued and easiest to replace, despite that I am more worried about the Dodgers’ pen next year than their rotation right now (depending on who that other starter is of course). While Jansen for Garza is intriguing, I do worry about losing KJ before the pen really gets set up. I’d rather have controllable young guys in the pen than “force” ned to make another panic trade for a veteran reliever.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.

by underdog on Oct 26, 2010 5:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I think I would trade Jansen for Garza straight up because I agree with you that relievers are generally over valued. While Jansen is a stud and cheap for a few seasons, it is kinda a sell high situation on him and maybe the Dodgers could get a good #3 starter for a reliever. I am also worried about Ned trading prospects for a veteran reliever, but I think that is pretty much unstopable

by abru3 on Oct 26, 2010 5:52 PM PDT up reply actions

This seems like the ramblings of desperate fans. Tampa is not trading a guy who threw a perfect game for a setup guy with 2 months of MLB experience.

I’d expect us to have to give up Jansen, Loney and Webster for either of them, though I consider losing Loney to be addition by subtraction.

Just sign any free agent first baseman. Not like we are replacing

someone who is not replaceable. Overbay would fit the bill just fine.

I still don’t think the Rays need bullpen help until I see where Soriano/Benoit go. I surely don’t see them trading their surplus rotation for bullpen help but for a 1st baseman or outfielder or DH. That team needs hitting, not relief pitching.

"Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die."

by Tommy Blackjack on Oct 26, 2010 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions

True or False

Relievers are overvalued and easiest to replace BECAUSE so many of them are not consistently good. Because GENERALLY you can’t count on any particular guy it doesn’t make sense to hitch your wagon to any particular guy and instead treat them as fungible and replaceable…

…BUT, there IS the occasional reliever who is good year-over-year. You do that long enough and it looks like you’ve got a good chance at the Hall of Fame. These relievers provide high value because they pitch high-leverage innings.

I’m not saying that Jansen is necessarily one of these guys. And I can’t overlook the difference in IP. Just saying that not all relief pitchers are equally fungible.

Yeah, I think so, too. But if the team said “please have the surgery ASAP” and Bynum still went on vacation, the situation would be different. But they didn’t, so I’m not blaming Bynum, at least not completely. The organization has to share a lot of the blame.

English professor chiming in here...

“As” can be considered grammatically correct in that the name is not possessive nor does it stand for “Athletic is.”

HOWEVER, “As” is, of course, another word, as in “as shitty as Juan Pierre,” so using “A’s” can be clearer depending on the context, and also considered grammatically correct.

So, both can be argued to be correct. But the latter (“A’s”) is probably a little bit more correct.

When this conversation is about years, it’s a lot easier: 1940s vs. 1940’s.

When I was a kid, there was a Converse commercial with Dr. J and it featured Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.” I thought it was the coolest song ever and lamented that I had no way of finding out what song it was. Luckily I remembered it enough to recognize it when I actually started listening to Stevie Wonder.

I currently receive this magazine. I love sports. The only thing this mag is useful for is to put you coffee on.

almost never used it since everything is online

Given they looked flat as a pancake for much of the first 3 quarters

against a very good team and still won, with a bench that looks good, I’d say that bodes well.

I am incredibly excited

Got a few hundred bucks off, probably could have gotten more, but happy with it either way. It’s a v6 and it’s much more powerful than any car I’ve ever had. I drove it home from Santa Ana tonight and it was the best drive I’ve ever had. :)

And thank you very much. I only owe another 8 grand and change before it’s all mine…lol.

I want to pay off 300 instead of the 255 each month so I end up paying less in interest, though.

I’m so excited to drive it to work tomorrow :)

I have probably driven

400K on 4 cars in my lifetime, I don’t know if I was ever excited about driving any of them. But I do know that I have better sound system than Ivdown’s car.

I have not seen a car like that since my friend had a Trans Am.

David Beckham

looked very out of place sitting next to Denzel tonight at the game. Well I should say, he looked rather lost. I was surprised that Arsenio Hall is still able to score some courtside seats (with George Lopez). Bill Walton looked in good spirits.

Oh the game? Well Houston finally started missing and the Lakers hit some threes. They have a long 8 months to go.
