Heh. trying to fool us before your 2nd comment

I am liking their team a ton t his year but Long Beach will be a challenge as will a few other teams in the league. BW has improved greatly over past year or two. So I am excited about UCSB but would almost rather they not be the favorite, that really seems to help anyone’s chances…

Webster vs. Rubby from the last thread

Webster – Low-mid 90’s sinking FB, sharp curve, BA said he had the best changeup of MWL, 50% GB rate. I’ve seen a few of his starts to know that he mixes in a lot of his pitches, I would say he uses his fastball 65% of the time. His best pitch is easily his changeup. Has a chance to start in AA at 21.

Rubby- 100 mph arm. Goundball rate through the roof. Will be 22 in AA. Needs refining on his offspeed stuff.

I can see why people would pick Webster over RDLR.

Check this out

Watch where his throwing arm is at its highest point. He doesn’t bring his arm back away from home plate very much, and practically lifts it straight up like a catcher.

I’m no MLB scout, but from personal experience, yes, that adds great movement to all offspeed pitches and sinking fastballs, but my God does it wear your shoulder out faster than Ralphy May in a triathlon. I know what they’re saying about his mechanics, but his arm action screams “Trade Bait” to me.

Jason Grey of ESPN has a profile of Trayvon Robinson

http://insider.espn.go.com/sports/fantasy/blog?name=grey_jason&id=5737670

Because Eric Stephen keeps on yelling me for this. I’ll just post an excerpt.

Perhaps the biggest thing that has made him a legitimate starting outfield prospect and a potential big leaguer in the near future is an improved approach at the plate that has resulted in a big spike in his walk rate over the past two seasons. Robinson became less focused on his swing mechanics as he got more comfortable switch-hitting, and more focused on what he does before the swing. The coaching staff also implemented some “preset takes” to help Robinson with his approach. “I was forced to take some pitches,” Robinson said. “It got me ready to be patient and have a game plan every day and every at-bat. Just stay patient and not try to rush things, and take the walks if they’re given to you.”

For Phil: One reason why he’s probably a better prospect than Xavier Paul ever was.

Aside from the entry

I excerpted on the previous thread.

MLB hitters should have "preset" takes..

So many ABs just given away many nights.

This kid sounds like he’ll succeed at the MLB level.
Really like the instruction being given at the Dodgers minor league level.

Seemed in years past they emphasized contact ahead of discipline/power.
Resulting in James Loney.

by Joey Joe on Oct 28, 2010 4:48 PM PDT up reply actions

And Xavier Paul...

If they did preset takes with Trayvon and it worked….

Please by all means do that with Dee Gordon.

by Joey Joe on Oct 28, 2010 4:50 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm just playing devils advocate

I like Trayvon, and hope he can be our center fielder, that the walk rate is real, that the reports of him being able to play CF are real, that he really has grown as a hitter, that reports of his arm being girly came from those who never saw Fernandez throw. That still does not make him better then Zach Lee.

by meercatjohn on Oct 28, 2010 5:20 PM PDT up reply actions

If he goes one year without blowing his arm up

he will be the number one prospect, barring complete suck by him, or complete domination by someone else.

fly ball pitcher

fly balls have a lower BABIP then GBs..

by matthewmafa on Oct 28, 2010 6:14 PM PDT up reply actions

They are also supposed to give up more homeruns though. He somehow gets the BABIP of a flyball guy with the hr/g of a groundball guy. Its strange.

Kershaw also has a very high IF%

Cains career tERA is 3.8, which is the same as his career FIP. both are almost half a point higher than his career ERA.

by UCLADodger32 on Oct 28, 2010 6:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Its how far he outperforms xFIP that really blows my mind.

by prosellis on Oct 28, 2010 6:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Ya. That number is like a career #3/4 type guy. He just might be the one guy that the system doesnt really apply to. It doesnt make a whole lot of sense, but there has to be something behind it because of how long it has lasted.

by UCLADodger32 on Oct 28, 2010 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Kershaw is another who always seems to outperform xFIP, just not as radically.

by prosellis on Oct 28, 2010 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Ya, but it makes a little more sense because of his strikeout numbers. Cain K’s 7 guys per 9 and doesnt give up hits or homeruns. Bastard.

Not that low. Just looking at this year, he was in the top 5 in highest FB% and the people around him had BABIPS of .290, .291, Lilly at .259, .294, .280. He just has had either an unprecedented run of luck or he just has a way to make guys hit the ball in the air, not give up home runs, and not give up hits.

This is all Broxton's fault!

He saves the All-Star Game that helps the National League win home-field advantage in the World Series and also his imploding and subsequent removal from the Closers job and basic unreliability. And now Texas who is 0-11 in SF had to play the first 2 games there and now they are down 0-2. F U Broxton! You are ruining my life!

this is all the Rangers shitty bullpen's fault

1000x more than it is Broxton’s but I see your point.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
