from MLBTR

Some good praise for some of our young prospects.

62 Trayvon Robinson OF LA B A bit underappreciated. Has made major strides at the plate the last couple years and just passed the AA test. Glove looks MLB ready in center, profiles as a solid leadoff hitter with his speed and on-base skills. Still think he could have teens HR power
81 Jerry Sands 1B/OF LA B Surprise power prospect, showed the ability to make adjustments and maintain success after skipping a level midseason to AA. Reports on outfield defense are surprisingly decent. Need to see him carry forward the breakout to next season, but could end up something like a right-handed Nick Swisher
83 Dee Gordon SS LA B Amazing athleticism, but the experience excuse only lasts for so long, and impossible to project much more power in that frame, limiting his ceiling. If he can shore up his defense and plate discipline, he can be an above average regular, similar to Elvis Andrus last year. If not, he’ll probably still stick for a bit as a flashy but overrated and mediocre regular, like Elvis Andrus this year.
88 Zach Lee RHP LA B Very projectable arm that already flashes a plus fastball and slider, reports have him showing surprisingly polished command for being a two sport player. Good frame and clean looking delivery, though not seeing a lot of deception. Potential front-line arm

Interesting report….usually #1 picks are rated higher than Lee ended up here..but it is an early look.
I still think Gordon has more upside than TRob..2011 will be a key year for Gordon.

by BFDC on Oct 29, 2010 7:28 AM PDT up reply actions

Very true

At the beginning of this past season, this wasn’t a “write this guy off as a prospect” year for a lot of our top 10. Gordon, Withrow, Robinson, E. Martin, A. Miller, etc. had some breathing room. Next year will be very important to determining the true status of a lot of guys.

by BFDC on Oct 29, 2010 8:07 AM PDT up reply actions

I’d have probably written him off at this point with all his attitude issues if he were still in our system.

by BFDC on Oct 29, 2010 8:15 AM PDT up reply actions

Sure, by now. Going into last off-season, Lambo had struggled and the wisdom was that last year was a big test for him.

He didn’t pass.

by Michael White on Oct 29, 2010 8:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Right exactly

This season I thought was a chance to prove himself. He failed and I would have dropped him out of our top 15 had he still be in our system.

by BFDC on Oct 29, 2010 8:32 AM PDT up reply actions

And he complied by writing himself off

though I’m sure if he was still Dodger property he’d be getting a pass by some.

File this under WTF

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

According to major-league sources, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria was intent on making Guillen his next manager. Talks, sources say, progressed to the point that there was discussion of executing a trade that would send Guillen, who has a year left on his contract, to the Marlins for 20-year-old outfielder Mike Stanton, who hit 22 home runs and knocked in 59 runs in just 100 games as a rookie this season.

After Guillen met with chairman Jerry Reinsdorf late in the season and agreed to return to the Sox in 2011 — but not getting a desired extension — the Marlins talks died, sources say.

by Eric Stephen on Oct 28, 2010 11:38 PM PDT reply actions

LMAO!

I want to see that trade just to see how retarded (sorry Keith) it would be. Like…seriously? A manager is a manager, why would you trade a legit 40 HR potential 20 year old outfielder for a manager…it boggles the mind.

Somebody has to play LF next season

And if it’s Jamey Carroll I’ll give up on the season right then and there. I would love to have Carl Crawford (even more than Werth, though he would be great too), but seeing as there are so few impact bats on the market they will probably be to costly for the Dodgers. Adam Dunn would be my guess to end up in LA, but he may be too pricey too. Personally, I would love to see Loney get traded for Prince Fielder but that ain’t happening either.

As much as I like the Lilly signing, I’m afraid that’s going be the biggest splash Colletti makes.
