Notes on Scorecard - Divisional Series Edition

First time without Postseason baseball in Southern California since 2003...

Aside from Phillies and to some extent, the Giants, no other playoff team played well in the last few weeks...

Saw Kemp hit three home runs to LF over the weekend, but then he must have caught a flight early Monday to make it to London in time to go shopping with Rihanna...

No professional team played with less fanfare in Southern California than the Angels did in September...

Of course, it helps if your owners are not being examined by attorneys for two weeks...

I cannot think of a better threesome to pitch in a short series like Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels in recent history...

Many teams have had a great twosome but three guys like that are very unique...

But then the Dodgers beat two Cy Young candidates last year so you never know...

Can't imagine the Reds winning a game unless they hit a lot against the Phillies, but both ballparks will invite scoring, even if the pitching doesn't it...

There will only be about 3-5 isn't this great for Bobby Cox to go out as a winner comments per inning in that series...

Jason Heyward will be the best player not talked about in the playoffs...

It would not surprise me if less than 12 runs total get scored in the Atlanta/Giants series...

Carlos Ruiz will come up with men on base and drive in a run with a broken bat hit, he will be called playoff clutch...

Roy Halladay will get called the best current pitcher to never throw a pitch in the post-season...

CC will have to win 7 games in the playoffs for the Yankees to win a World Series, the record is 5 held by K-Rod in 2002 and Randy Johnson in 2001....

Joe Torre will make an appearance in a television studio in the next two weeks....

Tampa Bay is not helped by having the early starts for their playoff games in terms of attendance...

If the Lakers had not won back-to-back titles, Andrew Bynum would be getting the Matt Kemp treatment by somebody on the LA Times...

I wish the Clippers good health this year....

I heard Lane Kiffin today on the radio, I thought he was selling me life insurance, it was as if the Washington victory was not a surprise at all....

A surprising stat, UCLA's outside linebacker Akeem Ayers has more sacks, interceptions and caused fumbles by himself than the entire USC linebacking group....

Both schools travel up to Northern California this Saturday, both are expected to lose but I think one could win...

Hockey season starts next week, woo hoo....

Divisional Series predictions... Rays in 4, Yankees in 4, Phillies in 4, Giants in 4...

Stanford 28, USC 21, Cal 17, UCLA 14

Ayers

Kind of an unfair comment because he plays leo. But man is he a beast, he’s a top 15 prospect for sure.

Actually, I took that from an article in the OC Register

about the lack of big plays from the USC defense, in particular the linebackers. But I have noticed even going back to the Carroll days that over the last few years, USC was not getting turnovers despite good defenses.

I heard someone call Halladay Oswalt Hamels H2O. Thought that was pretty clever.

Poison kills 80 children in Uganda. Damn you, Brett Michaels! Damn you!

I expect only Hamels to win a game.

Votto will beat Halladay and Oswalt like a drum. Cardinals couldn’t win with two aces, the Phillies won’t win with three aces. At least I hope so because it would make this winter much more interesting.

You probably have to go back to the Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine big 3 of the Braves, which is no longer recent.

This is better

than the entirety of Plaschke’s latest disingenuous column on Moreno and the Angels and Dodgers.
